Nadia Almada
Last summer: Nadia was crowned the winner of BB5. The flamboyant, chain-smoking transsexual won the nation’s hearts, while managing to keep the fact that she was once a boy called Jorge from her BB housemates. This summer: Nadia will hopefully be spending more time with her new boyfriend – a diamond dealer called Richard who she met when she flew to South Africa for a breast enlargement op earlier this year. Since winning Big Brother, Nadia has also made an exercise video, appeared in panto and released the less-than-successful single, A Little Bit of Action. Was it worth it? Most definitely! She might not have found the perfect career but Nadia is happier than ever. "It has all worked out fantastically for me," she says. "I love my life now; I like to be the centre of attention." Dan Bryan Last summer: This flamboyant gay hairdresser from Hull went into the house in the hope that it would help him forge a music career. Dan claimed to be an expert at making straight men fall for him - but while he didn’t find love with any of his housemates, he did come third in the competition. This summer: Dan will be busy DJing, working on an album with dance outfit LMK Project and appearing at this summer’s music festivals. He’s also become a regular face on London’s, er, celebrity party circuit. Was it worth it? Dan claims he has bedded 40 men since leaving the house and his music career is looking good, so all in all he’s pretty happy! Marco Sabba Last summer: Marco, a law student and part-time Samaritan from Middlesex, skipped his end-of-year exams to go on Big Brother and, in his own words, “stir things up”. He formed the Lip Gloss Bitches clique with Emma, Michelle and Nadia, but he’ll be best remembered for his uncannily accurate seal impression. This summer: Marco will now be enjoying his summer holiday from university, where he returned after the end of the show. However he’s also bagged a cameo in West End show Little By Little and had a part in the BB panto. Was it worth it? Big Brother might not have made Marco pots of money or turned him into a star, but he seems to have found it easy to adjust back to normal life and says he made some very close friends. “I’m still friends with all the Lip Gloss Bitches and speak to Nads about every other day,” he says. Emma Greenwood Last summer: Emma left her hometown of Oldham for the BB house, saying: "I'm bored with my life and want to have fun!" Well, after being banished to the BB bedsit with Michelle, bisexual Emma returned to the main house only to have a huge bust-up with her housemates - and Victor in particular, before she was ejected from the house by C4 bosses who were worried what might happen if she stayed. This summer: Emma, who now lives in London, is hoping a stint of work experience on The Trisha Goddard Show will help her find work. When she first left BB, she was offered a record deal and recorded single Shed A Tear, but Emma admits she was too busy partying to make a go of it. However, she did find the time to spend £60,000 on clothes! Was it worth it? Emma certainly regrets her behaviour after leaving the house. “It all went wrong. I spent the cash on designer bags, £700 dresses and going to clubs where stars hang out. I look at all these clothes and I want to cry,” she said recently. Michelle Bass and Stuart Wilson Last summer: Wannabe glamour model Michelle and student Stu never dreamed they would find love in the house. And we’re betting they weren’t expecting to be the first couple believed to have had sex on the show either! The couple’s romp under the dining table is now infamous, and Stu will forever be known as “Chicken” to Michelle – and the rest of the country! This summer: Stu is completing his degree in Leeds, while Michelle - who recently had a boob job - has landed a presenting job on adult cable station Television X: The Fantasy Channel. But despite living apart, she and Stu are very much an item and there are already rumours of wedding bells. Was it worth it? They seem to think so. "Stuart is the love of my life. He is genuine, loving and imaginative,” says Michelle. "You just know, don't you?" adds Stuart. Jason Cowan Last summer: The Scottish air steward strode into the house in nothing but a thong – which certainly seemed to impress fellow housemate Vanessa. Despite coming across as a bit of a grump, Jason managed to come second, but then complained he had been unfairly portrayed and refused to attend the end-of-show party. This summer: Jason will be returning to reality TV in the Five show Commando: VIP. The programme involves Jason and fellow teammates, including boxer Nigel Benn, being set tough SAS-style challenges. Was it worth it? The only fellow housemate Jason has anything to do with now is Victor, but he doesn’t regret doing the show. “My life was going nowhere. Before Big Brother I was working a 40-hour week and getting paid £250 for it. Now I get into nightclubs for an hour and get £2500 - that's the difference,” he says. Becki Seddiki Last summer: Bisexual Becki was a surprise entry to the house, but she only managed to stay in for 12 days. During that time she ran wild, licking jam from Michelle’s nipples, snogging Nadia and allegedly outraging her traditional Muslim family. This summer: Becki is still trying to make it as a musician – she and her band had already made an album before she went into the house, and she had hoped Big Brother would bring them more recognition. Despite her tempestuous time, Becki has stayed friends with Michelle and Nadia and the girls are often spotted partying together. Was it worth it? "If going on the show has risked my family's wrath and my relationships with people, that's a shame, but I'm glad I did it because, hopefully, it will help me fulfil my dreams,” Becki said on leaving the house - but her music career is yet to take off. Victor Ebuwa Last summer: Victor – who apparently never takes off his hat – decided to take a break from studying politics at Brunel University and go on Big Brother so he could “win the money and really stir things up”. He may not have won the money, but he certainly did plenty of stirring. Jungle Cat Victor fell out with virtually everyone in the house at some point and the sight of him brawling with Emma, while dressed as a clown, was one of the highlights of the series. This summer: Victor, who has a girlfriend and a two-year-old son, is back safe and sound at university, although he still makes the odd public appearance. Was it worth it? “I should have won - I'm the people's champ,” says Victor, but in the end he says he was just happy to have the experience and earn some extra money for his family. Ahmed Aghil Last summer: Ahmed, who at 44 was the oldest housemate, became a property developer in Liverpool after leaving Somalia to seek asylum in the UK. In the house he often came across as a bit of a loner and was prone to the occasional rage – like the time he started smashing plates against the wall. When he became the fifth evictee Ahmed said he couldn’t wait to get out. This summer: The father of four seems to have disappeared without a trace from public life. Was it worth it? Ahmed was never really a candidate for celebdom and didn’t seem to have much fun in the house, but at the time he did say, “Thanks to me, a lot of Muslim people were watching the show.” Kitten Pinder Last summer: Lesbian political activist Kitten was always going to be one of the show's rebels. Unfortunately she took things too far when she daubed the walls with graffiti and staged a rooftop protest, so C4 bosses kicked her out after just a week. This summer: Since marrying girlfriend Lianda Gibson in a gay commitment ceremony in her hometown of Brighton, we can only assume Kitten has settled down to a life of wedded bliss. Was it worth it? "I think I'm an idiot and I behaved like a 12-year-old schoolkid the whole time I was in there," Shell Jubin Last summer: Art student Shell was probably most famous for mowing the BB lawn naked. While in the house, she also discovered she had got a first-class degree while in the house. Popular with girls and boys alike, Shell got down to the last four in the house. This summer: Shell’s heading for New York to take up a work placement at the world-famous Guggenheim museum. She’s done her fair share of celebrity-type stuff too, including some pretty risqué modelling and TV presenting, but has also continued her studies and is still with pre-BB boyfriend Scott Hutchinson. Was it worth it? “When I got out I realised I could make money from modelling and so on. It means I have been able to pay off my mum's mortgage and see my brother and sister through university. I've also just bought a flat in the west end of Glasgow with my boyfriend,” says Shell. Vanessa Nimmo Last summer: South African Vanessa - nicknamed Vanessa the Undresser - was the blonde bombshell everyone thought would be a big hit in the house. However, after her one memorable event - snogging Jason in the bathroom - she was the first housemate to be voted out of the house. Not only that, but Vanessa received 87 per cent of the public’s vote, making her one of the most unpopular housemates ever. This summer: Vanessa is a familiar face in lads’ mags and has forged quite a modelling career, particularly since her recent boob job! On leaving the house she dated Castaway star and TV presenter Ben Fogle, but they have since split up. Was it worth it? A year on and Vanessa’s still bringing in the money modelling, so it can’t have been too bad. Wanadoo |
