Launch ratings update - 2.6 million viewers watch opening

9 Oct, 2023 - 7:52 PM by James

2.6 million viewers watched the launch show, which is the highest number of viewers for an opening show since 2012.

As well as being the most streamed show of the day across ITVX, The ITV1 show ranked number one in its timeslot for both total viewers and young adults (16-34) and Big Brother was the UK's number one show of the day for young adults (16-34) across all networks. It was the most watched show in the 9PM time-slot.

For young adults (16-34) Big Brother delivered a combined market share of 48.7% making this the highest launch market share since the format aired on Channel 4 in 2006 (58.9%).

With 0.7 million TV viewers in the 16-34 age range, the show achieved a share of 26% across both channels, and 36% specifically on ITV2.

Big Brother returns on ITV2 and ITVX tonight at 9pm.

How much the launch will do with the ITV1 simulcast? 2M, 3M, 4M?

I posted this on Twitter and most believe its going to be 3 million plus. I think the days of 5 million + launches may be gone but the fact its launching on ITV1 as well as multiple other channels this definitely has the potential to be huge. They really need to start getting AJ And Will doing some interviews now though and upping the promo because it's been a bit meh so far imo.

What did the final C5 series get?

I'll be very pleasantly surprised if it's above 3m. Even 2m would be pretty decent

I believe it averaged 1.02m, with ITV estimating (for sponsorship reasons) the new series to average 1.05m viewers

Thanks, I had thought it was below 1m although it must have just creeped over then

Seem to remember the launch itself didn't do too well either

I just want it to beat this years Love Island. I really think it's possible especially when some overnights weren't even cracking a million in the Summer.

Lowest ever Launch was Series 19 with 900,000

Just being on ITV1 should give it a decent floor, it's a much better watched channel than C5 and even C4

I'd say 2m minimum

Thanks for specifying these to compare the ratings with.

I'll be curious to know what the ratings are if they've been revealed?

I'd go with this or even a bit higher.
It certainly warranted a good start in my view.
