For people who’ve done theory (whether you went on to complete your practical driving or not), how many gos did it take? Lucky first time ’round or did you have to keep going back another 5 or 6 times?

Now here’s a question: there’s a way to drive and apply theory to pass but how many of us abide by that and the Highway Code to the T while we’re out and about driving normally/naturally?
And why doesn’t Brian Griffin push himself in on his driving chair to account for his short dogs’ legs?

I remember when I was learning -everyone said if the examiner asked you motorway questions at the end you had done enough to pass. On my test the last question he asked me was about the colour of cats eyes on the motorway - I was buzzing (I had already agreed to pick people up that night so I was happy that I had passed). The next thing out of the examiners mouth was......."I'm sorry Miss XXX but you have not reached the required standard at the moment. Devastated was not the word - I felt like everyone had lied to me
I passed 4 weeks later and learned not to be so bloody cocky so hadn't arranged to pick people up that time.

But ouch. They can’t be leading you on like that only to tell you that you’ve failed.

Passed first time but back in the mid seventies there wasn’t a theory test as such .. they just asked a few random questions in the car before you set off on your test ..

I used to have a wide bodied rs turbo with a strobe light in the roof
That on cd player turned up , and a heavy right foot made for some great times I didn’t bother with a three point turns if I could do hand brake turns |

No theory test.
Passed first time. Plus I made an extra emergency stop as a ruddy taxi driver pulled up sharp in front of me. Thank goodness the instructor didn’t here the language going on under my breathe. |

First for both, but i really did study the theory test, i was itching to have a license to drive and couldn't stand the thought of having to do a theory test all over again.
The practical test went well too. My instructor gave me a quick briefing when we knew who would be taking my test on the day, and he told me "Alan hates boy racers, he hates anyone who acts cocky, make sure you're very polite and take it easy". So i did, and he passed me with 4 minors iirc.

I passed my theory test on my 1st attempt and my driving test on my 3rd attempt. I was eager to drive (this was before I found out how ridiculous insurance premiums was at the age of 17) and wanted to pass asap so I studied a fair bit. I remember I used the learning to drive disc for the PC but it was the old one and only had 32 questions. When I took the exam there was 50 questions and the pass mark was 43 iirc?

I also flash my headlights or use my hazards quickly to say thanks to people who give way to me which I’m sure you’re not supposed to do. The instructor will tell you when learning to drive because it happens quite a lot and I’m sure it’s a trick question on the test itself.

You have got to think on your feet in real-life situations but as far as the theory test goes you either pass both parts or you fail period. Sometimes theory isn’t 100% transferable to practical reality but you’ve gotta do what you gotta do.

Honestly I’ve always believed that when it comes to driving people just need to use there common sense and have some patience. I drive for a living and honestly I see some stupid people on the roads I actually question whether they should have a license.
