Originally, WWE had different plans for Ronda Rousey and Nia Jax, Rousey’s feud with Nia Jax was created after plans for a feud between Rousey and Natalya were canned.

According to comments from Dave Meltzer in the last edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plan was for Natalya to turn on Rousey in a heel move scheduled for right about this time. Instead, the friendship angle between Rousey and Natalya had been dropped.

WWE would have used the angle to build a match between Natalya and Rousey for the upcoming pay-per-view TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs.

The original Natalya heel turn was dropped, after legend and father of Natalya, Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart, passed away on Aug. 13. WWE dropped their plans, after deciding they wouldn’t be able to successfully turn Natalya heel.

WWE instead went with a feud between Jax and Rousey, which seems to be catching at least a little bit more credibility. Jax’s heel turn became stronger, after she stiffed a punch to Becky Lynch.

Thought that would happen the minute Natalya was drafted to RAW. She's the kind of person WWE officials would think 'deserved' a feud or storyline with Ronda. Just not sure if it's something people would want to see.

I actually enjoyed Ronda and Nia's match at MITB, but that could've been the momentum of it being Ronda's first singles match. It's definitely worked out, as the article states, due to the current heat directed at Nia.
