Can't be criticised for failing to protect NHS workers if we don't bother to find out whether they're ill.

I think it's ridiculous they're not being tested regularly anyway.

Highly unsurprising considering the Conservatives' tendency to only care about themselves

Of course they did, because why would they start caring about the nhs and it’s staff after 10 years of decimating it?

For context

In response, the minister for care, Helen Whately, said that NHS staff with symptoms would continue to be prioritised for testing and that there would be extra testing for staff without symptoms where there was an incident or outbreak, or high prevalence, as well as regular surveillance testing of staff. She said, “On the advice of our chief medical officer, this will be fortnightly or more frequently depending on local or national epidemiology.”

it's the advice from the CMO, we follow the science or no?

I don't get the issue, anyone can ask for a test at any time, and if they are routinely being tested fortnightly or more frequently if there is a a flare up it seems reasonable? no?

Anyone visiting a hospital and all staff have to wear masks and those in high risk areas will have PPE

By all accounts it is not the most pleasant of tests so it seems a bit of disingenous motion that was brought to generate the headline TORYs vote against the NHS, that is the way I see it at any rate :

The bill was to introduce weekly testing for NHS and Care staff.
I think that is wise.
Especially now as more is being opened up again.

The science has been selectively followed by this Government when it suited it to.
The science has not always been right.
As has been stated by even those advising the government, stating had the lockdown been even a week earlier, thousands of lives may have been saved.

331 Conservatives voted against this bill.
That speaks volumes in any context.

If they were following the science Boris wouldn’t be opening England up to the extent that he is, they pick and choose when they follow the science, either they are or they’re not

The Tories screwing over the NHS? Business as usual.

Not that Tory voters will care though, Boris will do something Boris-y, his voters will cheer and guffaw and everything will be right as rain with them as Boris continues to dismantle the NHS.

After all, voters did their part, they stood on their step and clapped, they can't be expected to do more than that...

To be frrrr, most trusts have tests available on request for NHS staff members. I'm not sure how I feel about MANDATORY weekly testing. It is after all a medical procedure and an absolute cornerstone of a good healthcare system - one that we really don't want to touch, in my opinion - is that any medical procedure should only ever be carried out with informed consent.

Isn't it an obvious solution though?
With this track and trace thing aren't you suposed to be tested if you've come into contact with those with the virus?

That would be huge swathes of the NHS on the daily then?

Correct, it is an invasion of peoples liberty to make testing mandatory as a matter of routine. It's fine if there has been an incident or someone is feeling unwell, but that is very different circumstances. Also, the priority for NHS staff was when testing was very limited, that is no longer the case, anyone who wants a test can get one. How would people feel about having mandatory std tests after every sexual episode, there would be outrage ....

Just another attempt to smear the government without justification. There are many things that they can legitimately be called out on without resorting to complete rubbish
