The Dems won the senate race in Arizona, It's now 49 each with 2 results remaining. The dems need 1 of those two to retain control of the senate

The Republicans were further ahead in Nevada but there's now only 0.1% in it apparently, I expect the Democrats will end up winning it which will make Georgia's run off redundant

The length of time it's taking to count the votes is a joke though and doesn't help build trust in the electoral process

Maybe another box of postal votes "was found" at the last moment

they have always been dealing with a definitive set of results, the exception being postal votes that arrive up to the deadline. That is part of state law, that the republicans were responsible for

The other thing worth noting is that the dems do well in the postal voting purely because trump told the gop voters to vote in person and never use postal voting So basically he has kicked out all the aging republicans from voting who cant make it to a polling station

I wasn't being entirely serious that said, a good rule of thumb is just not to trust any politicians, and if a sudden and unexpected change seems fishy, it probably is.

the point is that it isn't a sudden change, and it's operation is enshrined in state law. There have been no objections raised by either party to election officials

In UK General Elections all the votes get counted in less than twelve hours after polls close.

Also, I remember one of the BBC correspondents commenting at the last election that one of the big problems with American elections is that each state is allowed to make its own election rules, and there isn't a standard system across the country. That makes legal challenges more likely.

the election rules are different in different states. In Nevada, they dont stop accepting postal votes until this Monday and thats law. They also give postal voters an opportunity to sign their ballot paper until Monday, if they forgot People may not like it, but its the state law

Georgia won't be decided until December but it doesn't matter in practice now, if it's 50/50 the Dems retain control as the Vice President has the tie breaker

Biden has been poor so far.

However I'm glad of the Senate result.
It's a kick in the teeth to Trump and I do hope the Republican Party take that on board too.

it will be weeks until the house is declared, but it's going to be a very small majority whoever ends up winning it

Jesus how can single states take longer to count and verify their votes when ours are done within 24 hours? Not even the most populated state (Cali) has anywhere near the population of the UK, so they can't use more votes as an excuse.

they have all sorts of state laws in place to make sure everything is verified and double checked at every stage, it takes an enormous amount of time. Also, its not like here where the winner takes over the next day. The new session doesnt start until January, so they have plenty time

Well it's no coincidence imo that as soon as Trump got more involved the worse the campaign went for the Republicans.

Because contrary to popular belief, most Americans hate Trump, even against Hilary Clinton he got less votes than her.
