I know there’s a trend in the dawg world where you feed them raw meat and uncooked veg diet and dog biscuits by TV vets warn against it as raw meat can contain germs and bacteria which are normally destroyed in the cooking process

She once ate a whole chicken carcass. And I mean whole. Which is meant to be dangerous because of the bone pieces etc. so we were worried... ...not one fragment came out in her poop. Not a sign of it. She simply gobbled that carcass whole, and digested it. The list of things she's eaten without any consequence whatsoever is so extensive... I don't think some raw Bacon is going to kill her. |

To be fair, in the wild dogs wouldn't be eating cooked meat
But also to be fair, domestication (probably?) lowers their resistance to such things, in a similar way to how domesticated apes (us) can't handle it. |

The contamination of meat generally comes from the animal's digestive track, which is why rare red meat is fine - it doesn't get "into" the meat and only sits on the surface, so so long as the outside of the meat is flash fried, the bacteria will be killed no matter how raw the inside is. Chicken is different because the bacteria can get "inside" the meat so it has to be cooked all the way through to be sure that any bacteria is killed.
Also rare burgers are a no-no because when meat is minced, any external bacteria is minced right along with it. They serve rare burgers in France... it's gross... . To go back to dogs though, my dog eats actual sh*t on a regular basis so, again, I don't think traces of digestive matter on raw meat really compares to that . |
