Paul Currie alleged to have told a man who attended his performance in central London to 'leave my *******ing show now' when he failed to give him a standing ovation as he raised a Palestinian flag Paul Currie, who describes himself as an “experimental fusionist” and an “absurdist laughter chef” was coming to the end of his Shtoom show at the Soho Theatre in central London last Saturday, when he produced a Palestinian flag and a Ukrainian one from a prop box. He then actively encouraged the audience at the Dean Street venue to give him a standing ovation. Spotting one male still in his seat, according to onlookers the comic approached him and asked him: “Didn’t you enjoy my show?” The man, who was later claimed to have been Israeli, allegedly replied: “I enjoyed your show until you brought out the Palestinian flag.” What had begun as a humorous exchange quickly turned nasty, according to onlookers. Sources then claimed Currie shouted: “Leave my ****ing show, Now!… Get out, now.” The man and his partner both got up to leave, and were joined by at least four others, all said to be Jewish audience members, who had witnessed the exchange and were left deeply uncomfortable. “By the time we exited, what felt like the entire audience was up on its feet shouting, ‘free Palestine’ and ‘get out.'” “Our friends later received a message from someone they knew who had also been at the show, saying that after we left, the situation became even more inflamed. What had been intended to be an evening of comedy turned out to be what felt like an antisemitic rally. In a statement on Monday, a spokesperson for the Soho Theatre confirmed: “We are sorry and saddened by an incident that took place at our venue at the end of a performance of Paul Currie: Shtoom on Saturday 10 February which has caused upset and hurt to members of audience attending and others. “We take this very seriously and are looking into the detail of what happened as thoroughly, as sensitively, and as quickly as we can. It is important to us that Soho Theatre is <seen to be> a welcoming and inclusive place for all. ” https://www.jewishnews.co.uk/london-...dience-member/ |

Was this a paid performance, because I don't think he could ask an audience member to leave just because they didn't stand up when asked..... he sounds like a complete delight and looks like a cretin

I wonder if venues will refuse to host him in future? I wonder if theatre staff will refuse to work at his shows because they don't feel safe? Answer... No.

A London theatre says a comedian whose gig left Jewish audience members feeling "unsafe" and "threatened" will not be invited to perform again.
The Soho Theatre said Jewish attendees were "subjected to verbal abuse" following the end of a comedy gig by Paul Currie on Saturday night. A Jewish attendee told the BBC that Mr Currie displayed a Palestinian flag and yelled "get out" at a man who objected. Mr Currie has been approached for comment by BBC News. In a statement, Soho Theatre said Mr Currie "aggressively demanded" Jewish members of the audience leave his show. "Such appalling actions are unacceptable and have no place on our stages, now or ever," it said. "We will not be inviting Paul Currie back to perform at our venue." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-68290650 |

But somebody should tell him that a Comedian is meant to try and tell jokes, not be a Politician and anti-Semitic all at the same time.

Paul Currie last night refused
to talk to ITV1HD London News. He could have spoken to them Paul needs to say what he was doing. Staff in the venue would remove the Flag fella. it is not permitted in there. |

the crowd could have lynched the jewish people in the audience because of him, it's a miracle they got out unharmed. That deserves a prison sentence

I mean it doesn't even seem like anyone even attempted to physically attack the Jewish members, because that admittedly would make me personally be more for sentencing the so called Comedian. I personally think we as a society need to separate what we personally don't like or agree with, from the actual criminal activity. The Jewish community have worse enemies to deal with than this clown.

I hate how all this Political stuff has seeped into entertainment and everyone is expected to think the same way and declare that or be ostracized. Same with football as well, players have to wear a poppy or a rainbow armband or take the knee or else they're vilified. I don't care what the cause is and whether I agree with it or not, this stuff is divisive and discouraging critical thinking

We love to see it
I just can't imagine as an Irish person being driven out of a venue during the Troubles simple for being Irish.. just a terrible person in general who thinks because he has the majority of the audience on his side is in the right

Soho Theatre bans comedian after
