They needn't have bothered with all the name of changing the succession laws - having to get agreement from all the Commonwealth countries etc.

It was the right thing to do but there was no rush as it turned out.

Taking all debates about the function of the royal family out of it for a moment - it must be really upsetting for Kate Middleton that she and her first born child are being criticised for simply... existing.

I know, and I think most of the negativity is aimed more at the media coverage than at them themselves; but still, can't be nice to know that people are writing **** about you for having a baby, when pretty much any other person in this country, if not the world, is met with love and well wishes.

No, she fell in love. It's not a job interview or a pay per view service. She generally keeps out of the media as best she can from what I can tell; yet she's this object of fascination for the media because she's beautiful, intelligent and doesn't show the slightest bit of interest in being a celebrity.
