Best of the luck with uni.
It's perfectly normal to feel like that, I think one thing you have to remember is that it's not just you and there are many others in the same boat, so I wouldn't worry too much. And like someone else said, don't overthink, as it will just make you feel even more nervous. You'll have a great time and you'll meet plenty of new people outside of your flatmates, so it's not the end of the world if it turns out that you don't get along with them. In regards to finding a job, I'd probably hold that off until the end of the first year, you get longer summer breaks at uni, so you can work for a few months and have enough money for the following September for your second year. That's what I did as it gave me time to adapt to uni in my first year without having to a balance a job at the same time. Last edited by Jason.; 29-08-2017 at 04:37 PM. |

Also don't feel too pressured to go out all the time (idk you might enjoy doing that) but after my first day of moving in and unpacking i seriously couldn't be arsed I mean I went out anyway but it's quite an overwhelming experience at first

How exciting!
The easiest way to try and find flatmates is through Facebook groups and your uni may have an official group too. I don't think it matters too much though... I didn't find any of mine in my foundation year and had the best time ever in halls and in my first year I found half of them on FB and they turned out to be the biggest bunch of bores and anti-socials I've ever come across! If your flatmates do turn out to be too boring or not your kind of people try to force yourself to hang out with them or see what coursemates/societies are doing. I wouldn't bother finding a job unless the extra money is absolutely essential to your survival - you don't want to become that person who is like "oh sorry guys can't come out tonight I have to work 3 hours in Sainsbury's tomorrow!" |

One advice: have fun, you will have the best time of your life.
Don't pressure yourself, don't ask yourself too many questions. Really the hardest part is leaving home, but it will be harder to leave your Uni mates. You will discover yourself and how to stand on your own two feet by yourself. It's going to be amazing (I hope, but you seem nice so it will all go fine)

Take some necessities, bog roll, some spray detox, snacks you can keep in your room and HANGERS unless you want all your stuff on the floor of the wardrobe...good luck!

If you ticked mixed genders you should ask why got all male, my son queried why they gave him his second choice accommodation and he got moved to his first choice the day after he asked about it sometimes they go for the easy life if you would rather go mixed then ask!!

If it's a group of blokes then you are bound to find common ground with at least one of them, not all of us are dickheads.
All your anxieties though are perfectly normal and understandable, it's a huge step but it will be the making of you.

Good luck Greg
Don't worry too much about all-guys you'll meet people from other flats! Go open-minded and if it turns out bad you can always try and change it. Don't worry about what to take either (apart from like bedding, that can be tricky) cos you can always go out and buy a fork! And don't even worry about over-thinking! Uni kinda sprung up on me too and I just swanned in thinking everything was going to be easy and okay - it's good to mentally prepare for uni, just go in looking to be sociable and have a good time! |

Good luck sis! I'm sure you'll be fine I was super nervous going into my first year thinking everything would go wrong but after a few weeks I really got into the groove of things. Just go with the flow and you should be fine
re all male flatmates I was really awkward about that at first too but then I actually made friends with a lot of them despite the fact they were #lads (having a vague knowledge of football helps lol). Also if you don't like your flatmates you don't have to be friends with them there's more opportunity to meet people from your course and in societies And I wouldn't bother with a job unless you're really strapped for cash

I'm moving out for my Postgrad in a few weeks too. I never moved out before and didn't really have the full 'college experience' cos I was living at home. This time I want to do it differently. I'm 24 in a few days so I'm ready. I really wasn't ready for Uni at 18, it's the polar opposite to school and I had no idea what to expect. I regret not taking part in anything so much, that's why I want to go back and do it all again but properly

I'm in a similar position as I'm also heading off to uni, so I share your nerves! I also don't have a job and feel a bit of pressure to get one tbh, just worried I won't be able to juggle the two. Regarding what to take, I'm taking bed and bathroom stuff etc. but my accomodation provides kettle/toaster/iron etc I think but I don't think many provide cutlery, but again easy and cheap to buy. Also I don't have a clue what day I can move in so even though it's soon at least you have a specific date I suppose? Just trying to put a positive spin on it
I'll repeat the sentiments of others, Facebook's a useful tool in finding flat mates. I've found three of mine already on accommodation groups (it may differ from uni to uni though) I'm sure your flat mates will turn out to be nice and even if you don't get along ( they'll be lovely) I'm sure you'll make friends with people in nearby flats or on your course. From your posts you seem like a lovely, outgoing person and easy to get along with x Last edited by Owen19; 30-08-2017 at 02:38 AM. |
