I've only seen Pearl Islands (watched late 2015) but I plan on watching a large portion of Survivor this summer.
Must see seasons girlies? |

Any of Borneo-Marquesas, Amazon, Vanuatu, Panama, China, Micronesia, Gabon, HvV, Philippines, San Juan del Sur and Kaoh Rong would be my top picks

I'd go with a bunch of those too. Cagayan is a must-watch but watch those listed first instead --- then save the best for last.
Also, Millennials vs. Gen X is a top 10 season of Survivor.

Cagayan's great, but you might be a bit put off if you're not keen on either of the two people the post-merge is edited heavily around

I'd love to know who from Kaoh Rong would qualify as "all game and no entertainment", because I can think of maybe two at a push

The year wasn't very big on gameplayers, and the ones they did have were dull, and the entertainers had no game and left pretty early making the year even duller with a winner that I can't even remember her name that's how entertaining she was. Basically Survivor ****ed up on it's concept in that year imo as none of the contestants combined entertainment with an attempt at strategy.

...not any of that is true, but that's the (brains, brawn and) beauty of opinions and subjective material, I guess

Idk if I necessarily agree but it is true for some.... Neal definitely. Aubry maybe fits close to that, although she has some entertaining aspects to her.. but for sure very game oriented. Liz was all game but it was kinda entertaining to watch her "game." Anna/Julia I guess I agree with?
And I still don't know what Joe was supposed to be aside from a Sunday. Anyway, I thought Kaoh Rong was really good though. I just think it's foolish to bash a season (MvGx) for character flaws when you can pick apart most casts if you really tried. Any argument against Kaoh Rong characters being one-dimensional could easily be done with the MvGx cast but yes if you just think generally they can be viewed as "one-dimensional" or underdeveloped characters. I think MvGx just had a strong focus on cast members that people around here didn't care for and that's where the difference lies.

Oh and I don't mean it's foolish because character development shouldn't be bashed... it can definitely hurt a season... but I just think that the MvGx character development was comparable to plenty of good seasons' casts and had the moments / flips / etc. to make it a great season.

-Aubry had some of the most memorable confessionals of the season (see: Oregon Trail), had a full nervous breakdown on day two plus a resulting character growth arc and a fully-realised, well-edited storyline (underestimated outsider loses her close allies through an almost comical series of events and bad luck, eventually overcomes these hurdles to become a strategic threat, before losing it all because she wasn't able to connect with the jury, having sacrificed personal connections for aforementioned strategic gain)
-I agree with you on Liz, who was a rare example of being entertaining because she was such a bot, to the extent of malfunctioning and having a meltdown over water <3 -Anna was the other person who I'd say seemed "all game" to me, but for a Survivor early boot, that's not unusual - especially when compared to characters who managed to be entertaining despite only lasting a few episodes, like Darnell, Jenny and Alecia - and at least she had the brief carrying-out-confessionals-by-lying-horizontally-on-rocks-with-her-boobs-hanging-out edit to be remembered by. But hey, every reason needs a duffer slash awful Twitter personality, right? -Joe was, in spite of his very minimal screen time, unintentionally hilarious and loveable and what you'd get if Abe Simpson were ever to play Survivor: importantly, he was a character, and that's what was missing from so much of MvGX. Screen time isn't necessarily the problem; it's what the editors choose to show in that screen time. On one hand, Darnell will be remembered for pooping in the ocean, Jenny will be remembered for the bug in her ear and going insane at Tribal, Alecia will be remembered for making an embyro and being a mental giant and the list goes on... on the other, who was Rachel? Who was Lucy? Who was CeCe? Who was Sunday? Heck, who was Chris? Who was Mari other than the millennial who plays video games and plays video games because she's a millennial? -And perhaps even more importantly, the edit made sense in Kaoh Rong. The managed to tell a coherent story with an interesting set of people, which is something that's been hugely lacking in MvGX and Game Changers, and if you back a little further, Cambodia. Kaoh Rong may not be 100% perfect, but considering what it managed to achieve in spite of the current trend of diabolical editing, ludicrous advantage overloads and focus on Big Moves while sacrificing character moments, it's not far off. |

But M vs Gen X had CeCe, Lucy, Chris, Will, Sunday, Jessica Bland etc. All forgettable because they weren't given an edit.

The best thing about CeCe was her appalling performances in the tasks.

afaik that was the only thing about CeCe (wasn't she the one who moved halfway across the country just to have a better chance of being cast on Survivor? A fact which was never even mentioned?)

As Told by Troy
|
1. Borneo
2. Amazon 3. Pearl Islands 4. Heroes vs. Villains 5. San Juan del Sur 6. Panama 7. Micronesia 8. Gabon 9. Africa 10. Marquesas 11. Kaoh Rong 12. Vanuatu 13. Cagayan 14. Nicaragua 15. China 16. Philippines 17. The Australian Outback 18. Guatemala 19. Palau 20. South Pacific ---21. Game Changers--- 22. Tocantins 23. Fiji 24. Blood vs. Water 25. Thailand 26. All-Stars 27. Millennials vs. Gen X 28. Worlds Apart 29. One World 30. Cambodia 31. Samoa 32. Caramoan 33. Cook Islands 34. Redemption Island Game Changers was.... okay! A looooot better than I was expecting, but I was expecting complete garbage to be fair. I find it in the same vein of Blood vs. Water where it's just like "alright, this is another season of Survivor" and I don't feel that strongly about it either way I think the pre-merge was watchable but nothing special, and the post-merge got more boring by the episode, culminating in me falling asleep TWICE during the funale, which has never happened to me before (and I was definitely tired and in need of some sleep, but watching the finale didn't help at all.) I think #21 might actually be a little generous right now bc I'm thinking about Sandra, so don't be surprised if I bump this down like two or three spots sometime soon.

Who, Douglas?

I'm shocked at howmuch I enjoyed this season, I also was expecting to not like it - I'm not massive on returnee seasons.
Pre-merge i thought was fantastic, some brilliant tribals. It was coherent in its editing as well to understand storylines and future plots. I agree post merge was rushed, but I disagree that it was boring each episode - I think Debbie's elimination/Sarah's flipping was interesting to watch. Also Zeke's elimination was a good episode, had no clue whether it'd be him, Andrea or Sierra. I think it was actually a really good season, just messed up a bit from the rushed merge section, it really needed another episode - perhaps Cirie's boot episode. Which would have meant the finale could consist of Tai/Aubry's elimination and the goings of the camp. Also the fact Sandra had the main edit of pre merge and then Cirie had the main edit of post merge was suprising, yet interesting. Also suprised Debbie was the villan of the season with such a strong edit, while Ozzy/Malcolm/JT didn't feature too much [Jeff's usual faves]. I personally do like Ozzzy/Malolm very much. Normally its very male dominated, so it was a nice suprise/change. I expected Hali/Sierra to have non-existant edits, but both actually featured pretty heavily.

Victim Noises

I think Game Changers is around mid table for me too. It wasn't awful like the seasons I have at the bottom (RI, One World etc.) and the pre-merge was very strong but it started to fizzle out a bit by the mid-merge and the last two episodes in particular were terrible. Also the editing wasn't very good, with new different relationships forming every episode without any explanation (like Andrea and Aubry suddenly becoming tight).
Thinking about the pre-merge as a tribute to Sandra and the post-merge as a tribute to Cirie makes things better though <3

Canīt make a list atm. Or could, but it would be very hard, since i donīt remember most of them anymore and canīt be bothered to rewatch.
I might try make a list at some point. Heroes vs Villains is at the top though. Last edited by Calderyon; 23-12-2017 at 06:29 AM. |
