BAFTA luvvies fumed at Kate Middleton last night for failing to wear black to back their campaign highlighting sex harassment.
But the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge instead wore a green Jenny Packham gown — prompting gasps among actors and film executives on the red carpet. There was complete silence and no applause when 36-year-old Kate entered London’s Royal Albert Hall alongside Bafta president husband Prince William, 35. Insiders believe Kate, who had a black bag and whose £3,000 dress had black detailing with a black sash around the waist, chose to opt out to avoid being seen as political. But one guest at the showbiz bash demanded: “How is supporting equality for women political?” Another said loudly: “She shouldn’t have bothered turning up if she couldn’t wear black.” Viewers watching at home were also unimpressed. They took to social media to share their views on Kate’s fashion decisions. One wrote: “Disappointed in #KateMiddleton #DuchessofCambridge not wearing black to the #EEBAFTAs. It’s not a political thing. It’s a woman thing! #TimesUp #StandTogether.” Another tweeted: “How does Kate not feel any shame sitting right at the front with a green dress while every other woman is wearing black. https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbi...he-reason-why/ |

Ridiculous.
To think you have to wear a black dress to show support is silly. |

How stupid are they? she wore a black sash, just because her dress was not black doesn't mean she doesn't have sympathy for their cause ,isn't it against royal protocol to wear black unless it's for a funeral ? but whatever,Kate looked stunning and these people need to stop being so bloody precious.

FFS the key is in the word "campaign". Is the world genuinely becoming more stupid or something? Do people REALLY not understand that the term "political" refers to all sorts of things, and doesn't just have to refer to domestic politics / government? All campaigns are "politics"... it doesn't matter what they're about... and the Royals are supposed to stay neutral. (Although some of them are quite bad at that already).

I find the whole wearing black thing a bit stupid
Good on Kate and Frances McDormand, you don't need to wear black to be a part of the movement, ridiculous

What a non-story. The Sun didn't even had any attributable quotes to back it up. The rag is stirring up the sh*t and the usual suspects are falling for it and foaming at the mouth.
Everybody knows it's royal protocol to stay above ANY campaigns. If anything she went as far as she could with the outfit to show her support. Move on, nothing to see here. Some rags like the Sun will never learn. I guess they must hate women asserting their rights. Last edited by Twosugars; 19-02-2018 at 02:00 PM. |

A terribly written article that is meant to create a narrative instead of reporting on what happened.
Nobody was expecting Kate to wear black, it's Royal protocol to not get involved in political matters. |

It's turned into a cult of following sheep if they're expecting every single woman to wear black . If they want to then fair enough but don't expect everyone to do the same , plus by sounds of it Kate was still wearing a bit of black anyway . |

Basically, the only bit that may be newsworthy is the apparent stony silence when she entered. and I really cannot see a large crowd all refusing to applaud or whatever because of this. Most of the crowd would surely not even know about this 'campaign'?! Or disagree with it..and as such would pay no notice to the colour of her clothes Quote:

Aside from a few of the speeches I thought it was quite a dull ceremony. All the attempts at humour fell flat.
Kind of showed also how much actors need their screenwriters, directors and editors. |

It's an awards ceremony, unless you're in the audience and are part of the teams that made the movies that are being celebrated of course it's dull. I don't know why they're televised tbh. I can't even watch the Oscars. |

These people don't understand the word "politics" and think it just refers to voting in Presidents and Prime Ministers. |

Why does wearing a certain colour of clothing have to show how somebody thinks or feels?

This isn't a new thing for campaigns. Why does a man need to dress as batman and stand on Buckingham Palace to see his child? He doesn't, but it makes a public statement. However, they haven't condemned those who for whatever reason didn't take part. It's the media sh*t stirring as always. Like, they even tried to invent some feud between Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Lawrence ffs. Last edited by Marsh.; 19-02-2018 at 08:09 PM. |
