I made a 'I'm leaving' thread once but that was at the time everyone was doing it so I was jumping on the bandwagon
I must say the constant goodbye threads annoy me as whenever they are posted the member returns in less than 48 hours.

I think people just make them to get some attention. The best thing to do would be to change their personal status to 'Having a break' or something along those lines.
