Like with Lady Gaga, 'The Fame' made her very famous but once she released 'Bad Romance' along with 'The Fame Monster', she launched herself into mega stardom and instantly became a pop icon and legend.

WAY too early to brand her either. Let's see if she's still shining bright with her followup albums first.

The Bends by Radiohead. Masterpiece, and it's their second album. And to top that off they surpassed even that with their 3rd.

I agree in some cases, e.g. Mika, Scissor Sisters etc.

But some artists have had AMAZING second albums, e.g. Lady GaGa, Christina Aguilera, Ashley Tisdale.

Madonna's second album did well for her as it was the album that started the controversy that has made her the person she is today!

I think Plan B breaks the mold on this, his first album was okay, and had limited success but his second went straight to number 1 in the charts. And is a much better album as a whole, lyrically and style-wise.
