A man who shot Indian student Anuj Bidve in the head has been convicted of his murder at Manchester Crown Court.

Kiaran Stapleton, 21, denied murder but had admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Mr Bidve had been walking with a group of friends early in the morning to the sales in Manchester when he was killed.

His parents Subhash and Yogini were in court to hear the jury return their verdict after 90 minutes of deliberations.

Mrs Bidve cried after the verdict was announced while Mr Bidve bowed in his seat and later held his hands to his face.

Stapleton will be sentenced on Friday.

I hope the verdict will bring the parents, relatives and friends of Anuj some relief.

The man who shot dead Indian student Anuj Bidve in a "motiveless" murder in Greater Manchester has been jailed for life.

Kiaran Stapleton, 21, was found guilty of murder at Manchester Crown Court on Thursday following a four-week trial.

He shot the 23-year-old Lancaster University student on Boxing Day 2011 as he walked to the Manchester sales with friends.

Stapleton was told he would serve a minimum term of 30 years.

Mr Justice King said: "Only then will you be released if you are deemed not to be a risk to the public."

Stapleton showed no emotion as the sentence was passed.

The man who shot dead Indian student Anuj Bidve in Salford is to appeal against the length of his sentence.

Kiaran Stapleton, 21, was ordered to serve a life sentence of at least 30 years after he was found guilty of murder at Manchester Crown Court in July.

His appeal is due to be heard at the Court of Appeal in London on Wednesday.
