Default What Endemol need to do as a whole with the Big Brother UK Franchise

The only way they can save the franchise is if they don't make 2 CBB's a year, and decide whether to do it in the summer or the winter. They also need a major production and eviction* overhaul. They need to make BOTS what it was promised to be, a mix of Big Mouth and Little Brother, and if they can't do that, bring Big Mouth and BBLB back. Let Brian host one of the spin offs, as much as he tries, his personality comes out more on the spin offs. And most importantly, LIVE FEED should be focused on a lot more, I know Brian always says that the show isn't what it was on C4, but the premise is still the same, and with BB Canada getting 24/7 live feed FOR FREE online with social integration, they need to take a look at what the franchise is all over the world and try to get some elements from them (Specifically BB Canada and BBAU).

*With evictions, they need to not let Marcus become Big Brother and say everything. It was a good idea at first, but now it sounds like he is having a panic attack or something. Also having him telling the housemates to leave is beyond a joke, he is the narrator, not Big Brother. I know it probably doesn't matter, but they should play the tension music when the housemate is leaving. And put some soundproofing near the stairs so that the HM's can't hear the crowd. The countdown before they leave the house is a good idea, but they don't need that annoying siren clip after. They also need to do something with the exterior, we've had it for 3 years now. It needs to go, and be replaced with something fresh. AND MORE CROWD CONTROL, if they decide to keep the eye, they need to tell the crowd to Shut The F Up or close the eye door.

Crowd control should be priority I feel, no matter what else was improved, that would ALWAYS ruin eviction nights.

I agree on the sirens point.

The countdown is really good in my opinion, but the sirens mean you can't hear what the crowd reaction is.

They don't need to save the franchise. 3.25 million tuned in last night. They won't be making any changes.

I'd like to see the stairs changed, instead of walking through the door basically straight into the house, do it like a few years back where you came down the stairs, then through a door into the main house!

Zakman
are you aware the makers Endemol have been Downsized.
And Ch5 has cut staff.

Due to this Live Feed is limited to Staff Costings.

So they can not "Focus" like you claim.

Young staff replaced the older better staff
that saved big money.

Here in the UK we are Lucky Ch5HD
took Big Brother over as Ch4 wanted it Burried in every sense.

At this stage I'd just be happy if they just righted the wrongs from Rylangate.

Endemol will have little say in there being two series of Celebrity Big Brother a year - if that's what Channel 5 wants, Endemol aren't going to turn them down.

As for BOTS, how exactly isn't it a mix of Little Brother and Big Mouth?

It won't save Endemol's bank balance but the only way to save Big Brother is IMO to take if off C5.

I do wonder how well it would do online only - I think it would need to partner with a major online presense such as Youtube or Netflix, but it really does need stripping back to the absolute basics. The show is just so superficial now and in the latest celeb version I don't really think most of the celebs had an "experience" at all - it was the Rylan and Speidi show and even the most fundamental aspect - the nominations - were dropped at every available opportunity.

Who wins (Celeb BB at least) isn't decide by the viewers or even influenced that much anymore by how a housemate plays the game in the house - it's all about who the producers favour now.

If BB leaves C5 it's dead, for good, gone. Appreciate what we have, because it won't be around forever.

And a move online just wouldn't work, for any show, even X Factor. Netflix is still relatively new in the UK and top YouTubers don't earn nearly as much as people think. Would like to see C5 team up with them for a live feed for future C5BBs though.

They did a deal with YouTube to put BB on the front page during BB12 didn't they? Or was that one of the later C4 series.

The format that Big Brother has adopted since it moved to Channel 5 needs to be stripped completely back to the original format used in Big Brother 1-4. The show has IMO become too advanced and far to be a social experiment now.

The Main Show
The show needs to return to the way it felt - new and exciting. Even if it is just back to the format used in the later C4 series. They need to cut down on producers interfering and setting secret missions/tasks to their favourite Housemates. Here's a list of what BB14/CBB12 needs:

- Extended Live Feed Hours, even if it is just an hour a day - It's more than what we're getting now!
- Basic format - Strangers in a House with NO CONTACT, Not even from Ex-Housemates
- Nominations to be entirely in the Diary Room. No Face to face! It's not even exciting any more.
- TONE DOWN MARCUS

Evictions
- Stairs which are separate to the Main Living Area.
- Two Shows - one at 8:30-9:30pm and another at 10pm.
- Interviews in a studio with no crowd
- 'Voice Of God' doing the "10...9... You have been Evicted"

Spin-Off's
- Scrap BBBOTS or make it more like Big Mouth
- Introduce a 6pm spin-off - either BBLB or something else.

That's what i feel anyway.

Fair points, only a few changes though;
  • I stick with my opinion about doing the countdown before they exit, but with a VOG that would make it perfect!
  • They should have a studio audience like in the days of all the BBs up until BB11 for interviews.
  • Having a separate screen on the door to the screen for highlights.
  • Move back into the Lucas stage. If you look at some of the aerial shots it's a mess outside the house, and there is so much space in there for so much potential.
  • Please, Please, Please deconstruct the stands! They look so bad on screen, and it's wasting space for more crowd! And speaking of crowds...
  • CROWD CONTROL.
  • Lastly, Keep the show at 9pm, making it broadcast at 8.30 isn't good for the show, it has a reputation of being on after the watershed.

Nothing new here, we've been saying it since 2011 and they don't listen because to the producers, Big Brother UK is nothing more than a TOWIE Spin Off.

All Channel 5 wanted BB for was to hide behind the brand and use it as a way to generate more celebrities to take part in the rest of their sh*tty shows.

And by the way, they could never bring BBLB or BBBM back. They don't own the rights to those names - hence why 'Big Brother Live' became 'Big Brother: Live from the House'.

In answer to the OP, it doesn't need saving, though the main series could do with a proper, promoted shake up.

The only way to bring Big Brother back to it's former glory is get back to basics and call it something different.

As long as it has the name "Big Brother" it will have a stigma attached.

It's NEVER going to go back to it's former glory ratings and buzz wise, even then, reality tv's novelty's worn off but it would be nice to see over 2 million again, maybe a celebs vs civilians series to promote the main series to those who only now watch the celeb version?

I do think they need to revert back to the idea of the live streaming being the central aspect, with HMs being watched 24/7, not HMs being locked in a house under pressure to be entertaining enough to get into the highlights show.

For me the problems with BB can be summed up in two words - "hair straighteners". For years things like this were considered a luxury not required in the BB house, but then they became to be treated as a necessity and the back to basics aspect was dropped. I do think it's time now to strip the show right down and refocus on the social experiment aspect - so for example forget the product placement deal with Morrisons and actually axe all processed food from the house, with HMs only being given fresh ingredients to make their meals. OK, on the surface that won't make the show more entertaining, but it adds the authenticity to the show and makes it a much tougher experience for the HMs, and in the long term the viewers will see the benefit of that.

The show also needs to return to a solid structure - don't throw in random tasks throughout the week, but instead return to the days of a Saturday Challenge, a task running Sun-Wed, nominations taking place on Mondays, announced Tuesdays - and then Thursdays being effectively a free day in the house to allow the HMs to find ways to entertain themselves and also enable the Friday night show to focus less on the highlights from the previous day and more on the live eviction that night.

I'd personally scrap BOTS too and replace it with live streaming, giving fans an hour a night to judge housemates for themselves, not have numerous nobodies give you their opinions on certain HMs.

Never going to happen, but in my ideal world: no tacky editing, keep it how it used to be, no pissing about with nominations all of the time, have better thought out twists and put HM's in there like the BB5/6/7 or even 13 type.

Patrick, BB has always as been camp as a row of pink tents in Elton John's back garden:

It's just taken you till notice it.
