Does the winner of a series effect your opinion of that series?
It's hard for me because I'm not sure, for example I loved BB6 but loathed the winner and think he was possibly the weakest housemate of the series in terms of contribution bar Eugene, however it didn't affect my opinion of the series at all. On the other hand, Nadia winning BB5 helped my opinion of it, BB5 was a great series anyway but the whole plot of the series being the divide and to see Nadia win and feel so accepted put the cherry on the cake, I would have felt so dissatisfied if Jason had won, or even Dan. On the flip side, Helen winning BB15 made my opinion of the series even lower as she was rewarded for being a ****, whereas if Ashleigh had won it would have improved it as it would feel 'good' won. So basically I think winners matter if the winner is a big player and effects narrative, whether it be good or bad, such as Nadia and Helen. Winners like Anthony and Sam are poor but have no influence on the house so dont matter. Last edited by Daniel.; 21-09-2017 at 03:19 PM. |

Not really.
Not in the long run anyway. For a few days after the final I'm a bit bummed out about it but I soon get over it and it doesn't hinder my overall perception of it in hindsight. And it's only usually if my favourite actually stood a real chance at winning but lost out, eg. Tiffany (well it was certainly perceived she had a good shot anyway). When Nicola didn't win CBB19 I wasn't bothered as I'd expected her to get evicted early on anyway and knew she didn't have a very solid fanbase but just enough to get her into the final. |

I think the 'I only like the series if I like the winner' mentality is reserved mainly for the casuals anyway. I doubt any actual hardcore fans would throw a strop and claim a good series was bad just because their favourite didn't win.

To further prove my point BB17 is one of my favourite series' and Jason is my least favourite housemate ever, whereas Helen is one of my favourite housemates and BB15 is one of my least favourite series'.

Not really, but it's nice if someone I like does win. Having a crap winner leaves a bad aftertaste. It doesn't have an affect on the overall series quality though, like I'm not going to automatically render the preceding weeks that made a series what it is void, just because someone I like didn't win.

For me atleast, it only works one way; a bad winner can bring a series down in my rankings (Sam) but a good one doesn’t necessarily bring it up (Chloe)

To a certain extent, for example I would think more fondly of BB15 if Ashleigh won instead of Helen but I was never going to love the season because it was terrible most of the time

Yes. Not to the extent of thinking a good series is now bad (*side eyes Jason* ), but it certainly sours the narrative. I don't like wasting two months enjoying a good series for the payoff to be a disappointment. In all honesty though I mainly use it as a way of determining how to rank series I enjoyed in almost equal measure. So, like 14 was great but Sam's the worst winner of any reality show ever and Helen and Ashleigh are the best BBUK F2 of all time - thus 15 goes ahead. Similarly had Hughie/Andy/Jackson won BB17, it would've easily been my favourite series since BB10...now idk if it's above 15.
So I do put a lot of weight on the winner of a series, not in the sense that 'BB6 is now crap because Makosi didn't win' but it certainly makes some series hard to look back on as fondly as some others. |

Not particularly, it leaves a sour taste in my mouth for a little while after but I soon get over it. Of course if my favourite won it might notch a series up a few places (doesn't really work in the opposite direction if one if my least favourite wins) but not effectively.
Helen/Denise Welch/Rylan/Sarah Harding have been my only series favoruites to actually win their respective series and none of their series are among my favourites. |

Isabelle/Brian D/Rylan are my only series favourites to win and I wouldn't rewatch any of their series or put them in the Top 5

Yes and no! BB is a show with pleeeeeeeeeeeenty of footage that most of the time the winning moment is just merely a footnote, but there are times where narrative absolutely does matter and the winner can either be a nice bow on top of a neatly wrapped package, or the complete opposite.

Yes. If Jayne (or Laura obvs) had won BB17 it would probably be my favourite series. But then at the same time Coleen was a ****e winner but I still think CBB19 is the best CBB ever so.

Yes. CBB19 could've been magnificent had it swung in a certain way but then the bloody ganghanded lot got their justice hmph. BB17, BB15, and BB14 are other pretty big tarnishings. At the same time though, Isabelle's my fav civillian winner and BB18 wasn't even that good

Not usually but I was really annoyed when Helen won because she was such a disgusting human being and I didn't like seeing such a vile bullying piece of scum get rewarded for being a vile bullying piece of scum

Oh yeah Niamh's post reminds me why CBB18 is the worst series of any television show ever

A little bit tbh, like I did enjoy BB12 but Aaron winning is the reason it's my favourite series, it was just such a fitting end and it felt like a victory

Kind of, it's like any show that you enjoy, if it has a terrible or amazing ending then it affects it. The final hours do have more weighting to them because it's the climax of the show you've been watching for so long and you're more emotionally involved in the final than all the other episodes. But yeah if it's a good series it's still a good series regardless of the winner, and same if it's a bad series, so it has an impact but not a massive one. Like Jack said it's just the sort of thing that might lift a series over one that's similar in quality.

The winner is the face of the series, but if I judged every series based on it's winner then I'd not really be a BB fan.

Not really, if the overall series is great then the winner doesn't matter. The Winners never really are too shocking, it's usually the nice but dull with a heart of gold person or someone with back story so sad that winning the show is there redemption. None of the winners were offence to me, the only one i rooted for was Pete for BB7. Aside from that my favourites always got voted out either before the final or early on into the show.
