What can I say to my family to make them come with me lmao

I’ve heard great reviews online, but all their friends and other family have said that it’s terrible and a waste if money - which I doubt!

Don’t go into this expecting a really compelling, gripping story (although it kinda is) - it’s literally three days in the life of Rick, Cliff and Sharon Tate. Just go in with that mindset and you’ll love it. It’s essentially a hang-out movie, Pulp Fiction 1969 if you like but a big emphasis on the Hollywood industry, the culture and setting of 1969 Los Angeles and the Manson Family as a sinister, looming backdrop to the plot. Like any Tarantino movie, if you don’t “get it”, you miss out.

The third day/act of the movie is freaking insane, I sadly read spoilers through sheer curiosity

It didn't drag as I thought a 2hr30m+ Tarantino film might (I didn't even make it through The Hateful Eight, which attests to how short my attention span can be). I'd read a spoiler about the ending, or at least I thought I had - I knew Sharon Tate didn't die, but for some reason I thought that the actor and the stuntman were killed in her place. imho that ending would have been more thematically appropriate (old Hollywood chivalry and heroism dying out and being replaced by the senseless violence of Vietnam and the 70s, etc etc), and it was slightly odd to have a mostly-happy, mostly-peaceful ending to a Tarantino film.

With the ending considered, I still stand by my initial fears that the film would be more about a glamourised fantasy of the 60s than anything actually about Sharon Tate, and I don't see why her story was rewritten and depicted peripherally through a film about Leonardo DiCaprio having a midlife crisis/Brad Pitt overfeeding his dog. But in spite of that, as a fairly fluffy (by Tarantino's standards) film about 60s Hollywood, I can't say I didn't enjoy it. And anyone who says the best character was anyone other than Janet (aka the "WHAT THE **** DID YOU DO TO MY CAR?" lady) is a dirty rotten liar.

I still have no idea who Luke Perry played despite having Googled and Wikipedia'd it, mind you

I’m glad it exceeded your initially very low expectations MB!

I believe the reasoning for his inclusion of Sharon as a secondary character in this is because there’s a theme running through the movie of “an end of an era” and eventual loss of innocence that was the 60’s hippy movement. Sharon and co’s murders basically personified these themes in real life. That weekend, the 60’s died a death, for want of a better word. He also wanted to celebrate her life seeing as she’s become sadly more famous for her brutal death, and in most cases less famous than her murderers. She was shaping up to be the next big thing at the time. Very sad.

I’ve seen the Janet clip too so I know exactly what you’re referring to, hilarious!

Great review!

Went Last night

Spoiler:

I really enjoyed it, I do love Tarantino's latest trend of giving alternative more hollywood endings to historical events. Not as good as Inglorious Bastards or Django I thought but still very good. Leonardo Dicaprio is such a fantastic actor, in a way I'm disappointed that the Oscar he won wasn't even one of his best imo, this would be right up there for me. Brad Pitt was really good too, I loved his character and his scene with Bruce Lee was probably the best of the film for me. I also really liked Leo's scenes with the little girl.

Glad Sharon got a nice ending this time, such an awful story in r/l

Make sure you look out for these Easter Eggs, there's a reference to every single previous Tarantino movie in OUATIH.

1. Reservoir Dogs - The same Cadillac Michael Madsen drives in Reservoir Dogs is also Rick Dalton's car.

2. Pulp Fiction - As Tarantino said himself the script is the closest he's ever done to Pulp Fiction, a split/connecting story that takes place over three days within Los Angeles.

3. Jackie Brown - The tiles on the wall in the airport are exactly like they are in the opening of Jackie Brown.

4. Kill Bill 1 & 2 - The Bruce Lee scene is an obvious connection, with the pans and whooshes and OTT foley. Also, the little girl who played BB, Beatrix Kiddo and Bill's daughter, is in the movie all grown up, she sells Brad an acid-dipped cigarette.

5. Death Proof - Kurt Russel plays a stuntman, also Zoe Bell plays his wife. It's rumoured they are Stuntman Mike's parents.

6. Inglorious Basterds - ANYBODY ORDER FRIED SAUERKRAUT!? scene obviously and elsewhere Cliff is mentioned as a war hero like his character in IB, Lt. Aldo Raine. Also, The last Italian movie Dalton was in was directed by “Antonio Margheriti” who is a real director but also Donny Donowitz’s fake name when they went undercover in the theatre.

7. Django: Unchained - The set of "Bounty Law", and where Rick & Cliff are being interviewed at, is the same set used in Django.

8. The Hateful Eight - Michael Madsen dresses in the almost exact outfit as his character Joe Gage in The Hateful Eight.

Earlier this year, fans of acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino were treated to quite the surprise when a special extended edition of The Hateful Eight arrived on Netflix. This near four hour cut of the film had been chopped into four separate chapters and released on the streaming service as a miniseries, giving audiences more of the film to see while also offering a totally different viewing experience. Well, it looks like Tarantino is preparing to do the exact same thing with his newest film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

According to Kyle Buchanan of The New York Times, Tarantino is planning to add in many of the deleted scenes from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and cut the film into an episodic version for Netflix. He claims that several actors who had their scenes removed from the final cut in order to preserve time were told by Tarantino that he would put them back in on the Netflix edition.

"I keep hearing Tarantino told the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actors that he'll put their deleted scenes back when he recuts the film into episodes for Netflix," Buchanan wrote in the tweet, "akin to what he recently did with Hateful Eight."

There's no telling exactly which actors Buchanan is referring to, but there are several notable names that had their parts cut in post-production. Both James Marsden and Tim Roth were a part of the expansive, all-star cast, but neither ended up in the actual movie. Both were thanked in the credits of Once Upon a Time.

To add even more credibility to Buchanan's report, one of the actors from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actually mentioned the four hour Netflix cut on the record.

“There is talk about there being a 4-hour Netflix version, as well, because there were a lot of scenes he shot that couldn’t make it into the film because there just simply wasn’t room," Nichloas Hammond said during his appearance on The Mutuals Interviews podcast.

Saw it and really enjoyed it. Leo was brilliant, some of his scenes were hilarious (his meltdown lol) liked Brad too and found the Bruce Lee scene funny... even tho it's been a bit controversial. I didn't do much research on the film before seeing it so I was kind of confused by the inclusion of Sharon and the Manson family

Spoiler:

For some reason I assumed that part of the story was going to be factual so spent the whole film waiting for the murders to happen and wondering how it had anything to do with the main plot but then that twist ending happened and it suddenly made sense. Also made me realise why it had an 18 rating
