I find this quite amazing - it's not as if Girls Aloud are exactly the best singers in the world is it? |

Aye, I thought the same thing, Ruth.
They say that the show is producing second rate singers, well actually it was the ginger one who said that...so not much better than her then? |

Exactly, and if my memory serves me correctly, didn't Nicola Roberts only come back into the running for the group when someone else dropped out?

They are saying taht it's more about the judges than the talent and that the show doesn't have much talent... |

Nicola Roberts, 20, said: "I don’t think the talent is that good this time round. Seriously, if that’s what Britain has got then we’re dying on our a**es!" That's quite a strange thing to say, given that this year's finalists are leagues ahead of the previous lot. Last year, there was only Rowetta with true talent. Cassie was promising but lost it on the live shows, G4 are more of a novelty act than anything else, and brookstain was a 'soul' singer that had no soul - and most certainly no X Factor. This year, there are at least 6 acts that are good enough to win. They may not appeal to everyone, but their ability in their respective genres couldn't really be questioned. |

I much preferred last year's show. There were more characters. This year with the exception of Chico and maybe Brenda everyone seems a bit dull and serious about the whole thing. |

Yes, Girls Aloud are getting incredibly arrogant, aren't they? Cheryl Tweedy thinks she is better than Charlotte Church. Apparently, she's got a 'fathead' and a 'scabby boyfriend'.

Oh dear.
It's not enough that the gym attendant played their album on a loop for my entire 2 hour visit there last night. Now I have to listen to them bigging themselves up talent-wise. Really, they seem to fill some sort of niche for the public. No idea what it is, as I haven't heard anyone own up to buying their album (maybe the gym attendant - 23, bad hair, bad teeth and I suspect never been kissed). Some of this years contestants are really good, I agree. Some, however, are not! |

It may be the X Factor, and that may encompass several different aspects, but it's still primarily a singing contest. I want to see people that can take a song and shake it up - make it their own and really deliver. If I wanted frivolity, I'd be watching Brucie & Co. on BBC1 instead. Hey Stropz! |

On Popstars: The Rivals I thought the only one of the girls that had any real talent was Javine, and she didn't even get into the group!

Okay:
Verity - awful. 2 To Go - awful. VWS - meh, I thought they were pretty shabby, though I appreciate that some people liked them. Roberta - she was gone too fast for anyone to be able to make a realistic judgement. Tabby - He was a nice lad and all that, but he wasn't a particularly good singer. There was no real power, character or individuality to his voice at all. Cassie - As cute as a button, but feisty when the mood took her, too. I wanted her to do well, and she showed real promise ... until it came to performing on the live shows. So there's six of last year's final 9 gone. If you think that any of them could really cut it and sell records, then I'd be interested in hearing your verdict. So that leaves 3 acts - Rowetta, G4 and brookstain. Rowetta's talent is immense, and it still beggars belief that she didn't win. G4 certainly have shifted a hell of a lot of CDs, but they've hardly achieved international acclaim (to my knowledge). Personally, I find semi-operatic vocals jarring in the extreme, and their appalling cover versions highly amusing. But some people like that kind of thing, and I can do no more than offer them my pity. So that leaves the 'winner'. He's a vile pig of a 'man' for starters, and was dropped just months into his record deal as a result of his extreme attitude problems, vindicating Mrs. O entirely in the process. He was supposedly a soul singer, yet his vocals had no soul whatsoever. So if you really push it to the realms of credibility, there were 3 acts with any real promise last year. In my opinion, there was only one. I think the 6 best acts left from this year's lot (so far - I still hope Chenai will pull it out of the bag) are Andy, Brenda, Maria, Shayne, Nicholas and Journey South. I don't like most of them personally, and wouldn't buy anything that any of them released, either. But I think that all of them have the potential to sustain a recording contract, and to achieve a respectable amount of sales. Could the same be said of Verity, 2 To Go, VWS, Roberta, Tabby or Cassie? And could you really say, hand on heart, that any of those 6 from last year are better than any of the six I've mentioned from this year's finalists? The increased ratings show that this year's lot are more popular, in any case. |

That Nicola always looks such a sour faced cow, she would'nt have even made it to the final 12 this year.
