So I was just doing a bit of reading and stumbled upon this article. For the record, I'm not sure I agree with the line of argument, but it's an interesting piece all the same and will no doubt spark some debate on here so I thought I'd share it

So all of the white acts performing Motown songs next week is considered black-face as well?
I don't really know what to say. |

I'm actually surprised it took this long for the cultural appropriation crying to start.

I'm not convinced by the point that article's trying to raise in the slightest. X Factor is a light entertainment show and should be treated as such - outrage for the sake of outrage isn't going to do anything positive.

Peak Guardian.
This point about Honey G did actually cross my mind though. But anyway rap music shouldn't be beyond parody, in the same way Rock music was fair game for something like Spinal Tap. |

It's not racist, but it isn't funny in the slightest either. Bit of a joke that the show has never bothered to have an actual talented rapper on the show like the USA version, yet have given us this joke.

She isn't funny. I don't get how people can lap up the same old joke week in and week out.

They had to get a bit of trashing of Trump in to that article about UK Saturday night telly, it's law now to do so in the mainstream media.

I just don't get this woman at all, and I cannot understand the virtual worship of her.
I agree with a lot of what the author of the article says, and think that 'Honey G' is a persona created as the musical equivalent of Sacha Baron Cohen's 'Ali G' - except 'musical' she most certainly ain't. She is not 'funny' either, and the fact that she has progressed through this 'joke' of a 'competition' to the stage where she is now - at the expense of genuinely talented singers - means the REAL 'joke' is on us. I totally agree with Brother Leon; "Bit of a joke that the show has never bothered to have an actual talented rapper on the show like the USA version, yet have given us this joke." .

Honey G Aka Anna Gilford who is a middle-class, former competitive tennis player from Harrow, who has a masters degree in management and runs her own recruitment company.I have a theory. Look at her she's most likely a comedian who's doing a Peter Kay Geraldine type thing. She will make fortunes afterwards selling her story on how she created a fictitious person called Honey G and infiltrated the #Xfactor. Genius if you ask me. Simon Cowell has been cat fished.
