Anyone like a Wimbledon fanatic?Tips for the title?
I'm thinking Federer has the mens game wrapped up,I'd be very surprised to see him lose.
The womens is wide open.I wouldnt rule out either of the Williams,Clijsters,Davenport,Sharapova and there could be some surprises.
What you all think?
BigSister
22-06-2005, 01:22 PM
I think Federer for mens and womens either Sharapova or Davenport although Williams cant be ruled out as well
~Broccoli~
22-06-2005, 03:32 PM
yeah federer will proberly win i think
Henman did well yesterday coming back from 2 sets down
Lance

Didn't he..I kinda doubted him,but thinking back to the French last year he came back twice from 2 sets down and won.He is always capable of it.

Federer and Henin-Hardenne were my choices, but the Belgian was ousted.
Clijsters, Davenport, Williams (Serena) and Sharapova are the only ones I'd fancy winning.
I like Sharapova, but would be nice to see Clijsters win
Lance
22-06-2005, 05:58 PM
I can't stand Sharapova,she's a good player,but I just can't stand the girl.She's easy on the eye though.
I always liked Venus Williams, unfortunately she has faded in the last three years but I would never rule her out.
Hewitt to win the mens title and either Davenport or Sharapova to win the womens.

Sharapova is easy on the eye and a nice girl. Her voice and her celebrating every point with a fist annoys me.
Clijsters and Kuznetsova, far less easy on the eye, but girls I like to see do well.
Mens, Hewitt, Federer or Roddick. If anyone else wins, I'll eat my socks

I can't see it,he's adefinately a fighter though,he won't let it go easily. But neither will Federer. There could always be a surprise too though.

I'm sorry now...but having an unbias view I do think the British public are banking too much on Andy Murray.
There is no doubt he has talent, there is no doubt he can do well. But the more expectations you have of him the more disappointed you will be.I know I am setting myself up for criticism here but it's the same with teh English football team, always expected to do too much, never do as well as you expect.
Fair enough they are a decent squad but the English praise them like gods, lets face it they aren't.Big up patriotism but you need to be humble to b epleased.
It's the exact same as what you have with Henman,so many people expected Henam to win Wimbledon every year and to be honest he hasn't really opulled off anything soectacular in his career...a few slam semi's here and theer but that's it.11 career titles, nowt to brag about, for the amount of time he has been playing.
And now because Henman is quite clearly fading the British public(praise god) have finallyu found another tennis whizz in Andy Murray.Maybe he will conquer 4 GS titles and reach #1 in the world. But it wouldn.t surprise me if he faded into obscurity like Bogdanovic did,Delgado did,Parmer did and that's just to name few.
I do get what your saying, the british public always does look to build up people and I think some people are putting to much onto Murray, he is clearly a very talented youngster and I am behind him all the way, like I am with all the people who represent GB and England.
I never felt Henman had what it took but I do get a different feeling with Andy.

Like I dont mean to sound harsh or be putting anyones hopes down.
But do you think that countries around the world are so excited about Andy Murray...of course no.If you said Andy Murray to anyone they would reply in confusion "Who?"
He isnt world class...not yet anyway.

I find it funny. When a Scot is crap, he's a Scot. When a Scot has potential, he's British :joker:
Serena Williams sneaks through. Not playing well though. Just don't want Davenport winning it. She gets on my t*ts.
Well done Andy, 3 sets to 0 against the world number 13!

I think that is on eof the great things about British people.
Whether they like a certain sport or not, they will still sit down and watch to support whoever the player or team is.
Like a lot of people aren't very fond of tennis but they will still bear sitting through a match that ciould last up to four hours just to show support.

She's got an ankle injury. Can't see Venus winning it. They'll meet in round 4. Could be interesting as Davenport v Clijsters is also Round 4 if they get through.

The other 3 have won it, and arguably, Mauresmo is also a nicer person

Thats true ITH but I think it will be Sharaporva vs Davenport in final
InTheHood
29-06-2005, 01:03 PM
Davenport for sure, the other Semi is debatable. Venus is bacik to good form, Sharapova was shaky v Dechy and Petrova.
Sadly, in the mens, Federer, Hewitt, Roddick will all get through. Johansson v Nalbandian too close too call
BigSister
29-06-2005, 03:34 PM
Hewitt and Federer safely through to the semis

Venus v Davenport/Mauresmo....looks like Davenport sadly. Mauresmo has let Davenport off the hook (No Maxwell pun intended)
Want Mauresmo, but if it's Davenport in final, want Venus. Can't stand Munterport. She was alright until 3 or 4 years ago when she accused an umpire of being corrupt for an overrule and that she was going to report him and end his career. Showed a nasty side.
Federer v Roddick final, I hope not. Want Hewitt v Johansson.
If it is Federer v Roddick, i'd want Federer. Roddick is ungraceful
BigSister
01-07-2005, 10:49 AM
Mens I proably agree with you there ITH because I prefer Hewitt to Federer and I have Johannson in a sweep im doing but it proably be Federer vs Roddick
Slartibartfast
01-07-2005, 11:05 AM
I've given up on the tennis, now that my future wife to be was destroyed yesterday by Williams. :bawling:
Still, I'll watch the finals, womens is likely to Williams v Davenport (don't really like either but I'll probably end up going for Williams).
Men, I'd rather see Roddick or Hewitt in the final, as I don't really like Federer but whoever it is Federer is likely to win it!
Lance
03-07-2005, 03:42 PM
Thank God Venus Williams is back on form.
I cannot see why there is so much negativity surrounding her and it really shows that the BBC comentators(ie Pam Shriver) is totally anti-Williams.
I am delighted to see Venus back at her best and she can take the #1 ranking back.If it wasn't for Venus and Serena the womens game would not in any way have progressed as much as it has done in the last few years.Well done to Venus.
And congrtas to Federer.....yet again.:bored:
I missed the mens final because i was working, just watched the highlights though and Federer was class.
Lance

Mens game is boring, I wouldn't expect Venus to play that well off of grass
Lance
11-07-2005, 10:21 AM
Yep ITH it really is lacking in diversity at the moment and it's becoming a bit repetitive with the Fedrer/Roddick Slam finals....and TBH does Roddick ever have th ehope of beating Roger? At this stage no.
However the women's game has many potential winners and some great players that make the game a joy to watch.
As for Venus adapting....she has just played in the Fed Cup for the USA against Russia on clay, she lost her opening match to Myskina, probably because she found it hard to adapt to clay but she beat Dementieva in the reverse singles.
InTheHood
11-07-2005, 10:27 AM
Gasquet is coming through for the men and is possibly the new Federer, even before the old one has gone :joker:
Dementieva is rubbish though, yeah she got to French Open Final, on clay, but her serve is slower than an 80 year olds. I've no idea how she is so high in the world.
The womans game has so many possibly champs though, from the Russians to Davenport, Willliams x2, Clijsters, Henin-Hardenne, Mauresmo and it's not ace after ace after non returnable :dazzler:
Lance
11-07-2005, 10:30 AM
Yeah true about Dementieva...she's not really outsstanding mind you she did reach the US semi's last year didn't she?So she is consistant, her games not top class though.

She'd be better with a serve of sorts, but Venus would have just overpowered her, whereas someone like Mauresmo, Myskina, Henin-Hardenne et al, have far more intelligent games which are more useful off of grass

She has a good all round game but she is not excellent at anything. I think she will never win a major title.
I get this impression Amelie Mauresmo is a lesbian...?
:spin:
I'm so into tennis! :bouncy:
I totally love watching all these comebacks! :spin: Venus did well to win.
I had written her off last year!
All things considered, not one of us Scots really gives a damn about Andy Murray. Sure he's the "new hope" *btw ITH, I agree with the Scots = Scots and then Scots = British thing! :bouncy:* but all things considered, he will fade away.
Well done for 3rd round though mate.
Men's game is so dying.
Federer needs to take after Martina Hingis and get a career ending injury, thus opening up the game again.
That's the only way I see Roddick becoming number 1, or anyone else for that matter.
Nadal is so crap! Why does everyone find him so good???
I agree with the Dementieva comment lol.
I miss Amanda Coetzer... boo.
Where did Capriati go? Did she retire or something...?
And I hope Ai Sugiyama will eventually do well.
She's such a waster! :nono:
Oh yeah, forgot to add:
Why do the Swiss produce good players, just never at the same time...?
*Patty Schnyder, Martina Hingis, Roger Federer...*
Lol, I don't think Sharapova ever finished puberty.
She kinda grew tall, just never filled out...
That explains the voice being so high!
Hopefully the Williams sisters will fade away now, quietly. They did their job well, opening up the women's game.
But now they're annoying...
