EastEnders Charlie Slater, Liz Turner, Libby Fox, Adam Best, Danny Mitchell & Minty Peterson have been AXED.

If true i'm happy with all of them apart from Charlie:(.. IMO a waste axing him especially with Kat and Alfie coming back unless they will kill him off and they return at the funeral?.

E20 lot should be axed:mad:.

EASTENDERS stars were reeling last night after a bloody cull saw SIX characters shown the door.
They included mechanic Minty Peterson and cabbie Charlie Slater, played by Cliff Parisi and Derek Martin.

All will be phased out in the coming months and some could be killed off.


Fans will be sad to see the back of 77-year-old Derek, who joined EastEnders ten years ago.

Both his and Cliff Parisi's characters have been involved in major storylines down the years.

Cast members were given the news last night by executive producer Bryan Kirkwood, who used to run Hollyoaks on Channel 4.


It raised fears among stars that others could be next. A source on the BBC1 Albert Square drama said:


"People have been worried that the new guy would be getting rid of people. Now we know that he is."



The others to go are Libby Fox, played by Belinda Owusu, Liam Bergin as Danny Mitchell, Liz Turner - actress Kate Williams - and David Proud, wheelchair-bound Adam Best.

Insiders said the cull was part of a plan by Mr Kirkwood, 34, to breathe new life into the show.


A source close to the executive said: "It's sad to see characters go, but when a new executive producer comes in they're always keen to refresh the show.

"Some new people will be joining - and some of those will be youngsters."

Scot Mr Kirkwood, who began on Coronation Street, has a reputation as a ruthless axeman, binning TEN characters from Hollyoaks.

But he was also credited with giving that show its best family, the McQueens, and hit headlines with late-night Hollyoaks specials.

He is already bringing back EastEnders favourites Kat Slater and Alfie Moon.

Six cast members are to leave BBC soap EastEnders in the coming months, Digital Spy can confirm.

Derek Martin, who has played Slater stalwart Charlie for a decade, will bow out later this year, while Cliff Parisi's role as unlucky-in-love mechanic Minty Peterson will also come to an end after eight years under new producer Bryan Kirkwood.

Relative soap newcomer Liam Bergin's exit storyline is currently being penned as his alter ego Danny Mitchell's scheming ways are expected to reach a climax over the following months.

Speaking of his departure, Bergin said: "I've had a great six months working on EastEnders playing Danny. He has been a great character to play and without giving too much away, he's sure to ruffle a few feathers before he leaves Walford."

He continued: "Working alongside Barbara [Windsor], Sam [Womack], Rita [Simons] and Steve [McFadden] has been a real pleasure and I will enjoy watching what the Mitchells get up to as a viewer."

Meanwhile, Owen Turner's mother Liz - played by Kate Williams - will also film her final scenes later this year and is expected to depart in a storyline connected with her son Owen's murderer Lucas.

In addition, 20-year-old Belinda Owusu - Libby Fox in the programme - is due to depart at the end of her current contract. She said: "I've had a great time playing Libby but I agree with Bryan that after four years of great storylines, it is now time for Libby to move on. EastEnders was my first real job and I have learnt so much but I am now really looking forward to trying new roles."

David Proud, who became EastEnders' first ever disabled character in June, will further be written out.

Of his time filming with the serial, Proud said: "I have had a wonderful time at EastEnders and loved every minute of it over the last year. It has been fantastic to play such a complex character like Adam. I have made some great friends amongst the cast and crew and wish the show all the best for future."

At the beginning of the month, Chelsea Fox actress Tiana Benjamin revealed her intention to leave after four years in a bid to pursue other projects. Preeya Kalidas will make her screen exit in a fortnight's time, while Barbara Windsor is due to film her final scenes as matriarch Peggy Mitchell in July.

A show insider told DS: "It's sad to see characters leave the Square but obviously when a new executive producer like Bryan Kirkwood comes on board, they're always keen to refresh the show and make some changes."

They added: "It's the way soaps work - characters run their course and new characters come along."

Since his arrival, Kirkwood successfully managed to lure back Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie as Kat and Alfie Moon, while also casting former Footballers' Wives actress Zoe Lucker as Max Branning's new love interest Vanessa.

Liz I really liked so I'm sad to see her go but she hasn't been on screen in ages so I didn't expect her to become a full time character. Not too fussed on Libby but I didn't mind her when she wasn't with Adam. I wonder what will happen to the Fox family now? I've liked Darren and his attitude recently, it's been funny:laugh:, if they give Charlie G Hawkins the right material to work with for his character then he does an OK job apart from this Heather stuff which was dire.

I always thought Liz would get killed by Lucas and I guess Chelsea will too which leads to the departure of Libby once Lucas is revealed to all as a killer?.

Well.. Libby, meh. Adam is deadwood. Charlie should stay but not bothered tbh. Is Liz even in the show.. i mean shes always back and forth from Spain, Bye Liz. Minty, without Gary is nothing so i wont really miss him. Danny is a good character, they could add him into big story lines.. He just joined the show so i don't know why they are axing him.. plus he is PENG so i would be quite upset if one of eastenders eye candy leaves but once again, ah well..

So overall the characters i like most stay.. Thats all good.. :)

I feel exactly the same! Mo is a genius character.. her role when Archie was murdered, placing bets and always being the one to break silence. I love Mo! :spin:

I'm shocked at Charlie, i thought he'd be one of the "golden oldies" when i'm older LOL. To be completely honest, i really believe that Eastenders are going to take a backward step soon, these axings are exactly what that producer did when she took over from Louise Berrige in 2005, the problem was, she axed too many characters and re-introduced too many older characters, the soap relied on the older characters and when they eventually left, we were left still unsure of the characters that were new. Because of old favs like Grant, Phil, Peggy, Sharon, Dennis and others were re-introduced in 2005, the new characters, like Honey Mitchell for example, took some adjusting too because we already famaliarised ourselves with the older ones, but the majority of them left, and we were forced to rely on the likes of Honey and the new cast to carry the show, and the ratings dropped. Then Santer took over.
I've not watched EE for a while now, not since 3 weeks ago because it's just getting a little boring, and judging by the ratings, i'm not the only one that thinks like that.

I agree about Louise Berridge she screwed up big time with the axes and some of the storylines but what I most thank her for is that it was her idea to create the character of Stacey Slater for Lacey Turner, who auditioned for the role of Demi Miller but didn't get it and they were obviously impressed that they wanted her in the show:):D.

Seeing as both Jessie and Shane (Kat and Alfie) both expressed that they would like to return and are due back on screen in autumn, I hope a similar thing happens with Chrissie. She was such a good character.

Trevor was really evil and nasty, was glad when Little Mo finally found the courage to end the beatings and whacked him with the iron, and the scene between them when they were in the house before it set alight when she stood up to him was brilliant.. glad Trevor died but poor Sharon with Tom dying too I liked him:(.
