Blanche’s funeral will be an event to remember reveals Corrie writer Damon Rochefort, who penned the episode.

Tensions run high at the funeral as killer Tracy sees Amy and comes face-to-face with her new rival Becky. There will certainly be trouble ahead!

Read the episode preview written by our ITV.com guest writer, Damon himself.

Damon felt privileged to write the episode and wanted to ensure the scenes were a fitting tribute to Corrie legend Blanche, played by actress Maggie Jones who recently died.

He said: “Blanche was a character who could say absolutely anything. It was such an honour to be able to write her funeral. The character was not universally liked, but the actress was universally loved. It was important to make it Blanche’s funeral not Maggie’s and it was important the Barlows were affected. She was the glue that held the family together.”

He also paid tribute to actress Maggie.

“She was marvellous,” he said. “She will be greatly, greatly missed.”

In the show this week Deirdre receives the terrible news that her mum has died. The funeral scenes will air on Monday 10th May.

7:30pm episode

"No-one does a funeral quite like Corrie but Monday's episodes are extra special as the Street's residents gather to say a final farewell to Weatherfield's favourite battle-axe, the legend that is Blanche Hunt.

As Ken helps a shattered Deirdre gird herself for the day ahead, they are more than aware, that thanks to her mother's obsessions with other peoples' funerals, this one better be a humdinger, as Blanche will be up there somewhere glancing a judgemental, beady eye over proceedings.

Meanwhile, we see the impact Blanche's death has had on her extended family; Steve and Becky prepare Amy for the service, and an upset Peter worries to Leanne that Blanche's death is yet another in a series of losses for poor Simon.

But one relative of Blanche's who will cause the biggest surprise, is caged killer, granddaughter Tracy who rocks up handcuffed to a prison guard. While genuinely upset about her gran's death, she can't help bring her own blend of tears, tantrums and traumas to the day, especially when she sees Becky playing mum to daughter Amy. It's gonna kick-off!!!

With guest starts June Whitfield playing Blanche's friend May Penn, and Roy Hudd playing undertaker Archie Shuttleworth, Monday's extravaganza should satisfy Blanche's legion of fans all over the country. A fitting tribute to Blanche Hunt, one of soap's legendary greats, and to the wonderful, unique performance of dear Maggie Jones. They will both be greatly missed."
