It's never going to happen. It's too ingrained in society. And prohibition never works. Would it be better off? Probably. But take the question like that and we are also better off without a lot of other fun things people like to do. There. Now we all live longer with a whole lot less to live for.

I don't drink any more. Mainly because I used to do some stupid things and I was a complete ass. I also was fat when I was drinking. Plus, it's far more healthy to not drink. And I don't miss it. :)

You sound jolly interesting - honest

Drinkinng is recreational, makes you do stooopid things and be silly outwith the norm.

If drinking had become a genuine problem in your life you'd have got thin, not fat. Alchi's forget to eat

I didn't have a problem with drink. I was just drinking a bit much and it was costing me a fortune. Then I worked out how I can be happy all the time being sober 24/7. :joker:

Try it. You really can get a big buzz out of being sober and healthy, no hangovers.:D

the idiots you refer to are either people who change after 1 drink and then cannot help the compulsion to keep drinking

or

ill educated people who if they were from a more affluent, better educated home would not drink as they do.

It's not a realistic prospect but I'd probably say it'd possibly do some good. Most people can handle their drink but it's the few that use it as an excuse to act like apes who are the real problem.

Oh hotleggs!! I do like the occasional alcopop, woo woo cocktail or vodka with lemonade darling. I love nothing more than dancing in a good atmosphered rock night club being a bit tipsy.. but I am happy when sober too with a j20 or lemonade. lol. My aim is just not to get "pissed" every weekend! but don't mind if most others want to do that!

How dare you, sir? The English government do not have the rights to barter over Newcastle, it is located in the land god gave to his chosen people after the yids upset him.

It sits located between the lands of the Engerlish Waaaankers and the Porridge ****, as a shining beacon of light. It's peoples provide both races a shining example of what they can become if they apply themselves.

Its a shame how the minority cause a huge problem with drinking and not being able to handle it, but the majority of people drink sensibly and those are the ones affected by the idiotic minority u see on a friday night throwing up in alleyways or shouting abuse at both the police and general public. This is the type of situations you see again and again, and it gives not only alcohol a bad name but the country itself.

bansheewails
12-06-2010, 01:13 PM
It was banned in American in the 1930's and look what happened there. It should not be banned. Jesus if everything was banned that wasn't good for you we would be sitting at home wraped on cotton wool and forced to jog until we were all size 8. No more nannying from the state please.

MissKittyFantastico

Er, funnily enough, countries which have cheap booze like France, Spain, Portugal, etc.have fewer problems with antisocial drinking. It's not at all an issue in these countries

Revenue. Problem drinking. Not issues.

If its the cheaper red wines(discounted bottles from supermarkets etc) that cause that, it could be the additives that are used to quicken the process, there are a couple of tricks to try, get a bottle and let it stand totally undisturbed for about a month so that the chemicals settle, then pour while ensuring you disturb them as little as possible.

A quicker way is to nuke it, microwave a glassful, for about 20 seconds on high power.

I know it wasn't. Antisocial drinking has high costs in terms of all the asociated problems, violence, accidents, absenteeism, etc, etc, etc, compensated for by the tax revenue to the govt. Just remarking in other civilised countries they don't have the same problems nor do they overly rely on tax from tobacco and alcohol.

Taxing something to discourage it is bogus.

I dont get them, I always have a pint or two of water before sleeping. That helps rehydrate the brain and flush the toxins from the body.

Queasy stomach - have a fry up/or egg based meal - lots of protein.

Dehydrated - Irn Bru/Vimto/Red Bull etc

Top tip though if you have a headache dont take paracetamol, take anything but. Believe it or not it will make you feel even queasier.

Tried that, it doesnt work, you can have a hangover and still be blootered. Another myth is drinking yourself sober, doesnt happen, you may feel as if you are sober, but sober people around you will see you as drunk.

A more realistic possibility is the banning of all other recreational drugs and drug taking.........Draconion measures would be needed to rid the world of trashy drugs.....Just needs the political will and the sacking of all psyco babble advisers.....

I don't think I've ever heard anyone using the word 'draconian' in a positive context.

For my own part, I'd say the so called "war on drugs" has done more harm than good. Resources that might have been better spent on policing and incarcerating antisocial and violent criminals are instead drained by every successive government's futile and sisyphian struggle to tackle the drugs trade by targeting suppliers and addicts, many for whom psychiatric treatment would be far more effective than imprisonment... and that's before you get into the issue of legality. You can thank pressure from the scaremongering media for that.

Realistic? dont talk sheeeite. Would you then also ban tea and coffee unless it was decaffeinated? What about sugar and sugar substitutes? They all give highs.

Political will? So what do you advocate about such countries as Columbia, Burma, Thailand etc that cant effectively control the producers within its own borders? Invade them?
