Not if you took it by force in the way I outlined. Read the post.

It's a good metaphor though. The British are squatting in the north.

The only British in the North are the soldiers who haven't gone home yet. All the natives are Irish.

If it had been built by us it'd be full of prefabs and sprawled all over the place, just the way we like it.

What do you mean be consistent?

The North is a mix of those who consider themselves Irish, and those who consider themselves British, and an even smaller proportion of those who consider themselves a mix or would like the North to gain seperate independence.

Simple.

I think your on a wind up mission here, if I'm being totally honest.

No, they are Irish, or they are nothing - a people without an identity. They've ried to be Ulster-Scots, anything to be separatist. But the truth is they are as Irish as anyone else.

Complete ignorance. Wouldn't expect anything less from you.

I know people up in the North who consider themselves British. How on earth can you call them Irish? Geopolitical nuances aside lets drop the ****ing pedantic schtick for a few seconds, cool?

Thousands of people up there consider themselves British, are from British descent, and want the North to remain part of the U.K. Therefore they are British in my eyes. I wouldn't insult them by considering them anything less.

The British culture has been well established. Why don't you set up a poll and ask the forums British people do they consider themselves Irish, if you are so confident?
And what's on the other side of your screen?

In regards to the original post, she just seemed annoyed at the question, she probably has been asked it time and time again, and tbh, I get annoyed at being constantly asked if Ireland is part of UK aswell myself. It's just like when Americans and Canadians dislike being referred to as each nation, and the same with Denmark and Sweden, which has been posted several times in the board already.

It's not a hatred towards being referred to another nationality as you hate them, it's a hatred towards being asked stupid questions which some basic primary level history and geography should tell you.

"Could he not find in his heart the generosity to acknowledge that there is a small nation that stood alone not for one year or two, but for several hundred years against aggression; that endured spoliations, famines, massacres in endless succession; that was clubbed many times into insensibility, but that each time on returning [to] consciousness took up the fight anew; a small nation that could never be got to accept defeat and has never surrendered her soul?”

If anything, the provo's, use of guerrilla tactics, is a testament to the British's military might. A running pitch battle wouldn't really last too long now would it.
Steve knew what he was getting into, he was a soilder, there was a war on, soilders get killed/blown up in wars:bawling:

It wasn't a war. The British Armed Forces were used in support of the local powers, to prevent or deter terrorists from both sides of the nationalist divide from operating.

Whilst the nationalist side wanted it to be classed as a war for political purposes, the British Government refused to grant them this and treated them and the Loyalist terror organisations as criminals.

Some upper-class colonial remnants, and some control-freaks in the government , might?

But 'we' ordinary working class folk that 'work with' and consider to be 'good friends with' DO NOT!!

I dont like..where this thread is headed....History would back up the Irish claim of ....a domineering , heartless , empire-building britain!...That..took whatever it desired from any neighbour or weaker nation that it could find in order to expand it's power on the world stage!

There can be no excuses!!.....Only apologies!......But would that heal any hurt?......I dont think so!....But you have mine anyway!

And is this really the place for this wound to be debated?...I think not.

Daniel I like your posts and I do tend to be on your side with stuff usually coz you are a cool guy
But On this topic you are a bit out of touch She had her reasons to be angry its a sensitive topic for ireland

The UK used to control the whole of ireland until The republic was given back but the UK still kept control of ulster Northen Ireland

This all began during the days of the reformation scottish and english protestants were sent over and planted in the north of ireland to prevent an Irish catholic rebellion towards the english

The British have caused the problems in ireland and the british are to blame for this

They just stole their country and planted people there that didn`t belong their and to make matters worse laters when britain took full control of ireland they treated native irish catholics like slaves in their own country starving them and working them to death and even evicting them from their own farms and houses

They brought in tough anti catholic laws that made native irish second class in their own land they were refused jobs refused good education and health care

So dude You gotta understand why The native irish feel so hostile towards the UK still the history is there things may be better now but that doesn`t change what the british did back then

Still to this day Ulster is owned by the UK still catholic families suffer violance at the hands of radical protestants in northen ireland

And before you call all native irish IRA terrorists they are not

The IRA movement was created as a fight back to free their country from british opression and gain equality for their country Nobody was taking them seriously for decades they were ignored by the british government and left so the last resort they turned to was violence to get their voices heard

I am british myself english Whilst I condemn some of the IRA`s past actions I do fully understand their cause and why they did it even though it made them no better for killing people than the british who made the irsh suffer for hundreds of years

I am ashamed of what my country did as a english guy I am not proud of it there is nothing to be proud of it would do some other brits good to finally accept their own past mistakes instead of feeling proud of such a bloody and evil past
