He doesn't have issues with the British. He has issues with the British who still think they own us. That is a perfectly fair viewpoint to hold.
I think you will find that it is you who is overreacting to everything, considering that's two Irish people in 24 hours who have merely enforced their independence, and you took it as being anti-British.
So yeah. It's you.

I was born in Glasgow but raised in London. I'm British; people in N-Ireland aren't even British but they're considered part of GB.
I think it's offensive how people in the RoI aren't allowed to vote in some of our competitions. Like this one for example. Caoimhe is from The Rep' yet her peeps wont be able to vote for her to win or w/e if she makes it that far, which IMHO takes the p***!

Aye. We used to be able to. And they still hold open auditions here. It's Big Brother for the geographical region of the British Isles, but we are left a bit in the dark.

We're not able to vote in American competitions because we're a different country. The Republic if Ireland is a different country so they can't vote in our competitions. It makes perfect sense to me. It's not discrimination.
I haven't seen said incident but without getting into politics or history, I think it depends on how she said it. I'd be fairly taken aback by someone being angry/aggresive with somebody they had just met regardless of what they had said.. Especially in an environment like the BB house
Scots and Irish get asked stupid questions like that so often.. When a foreigner asks me whereabouts in England is Scotland, I just put him/her straight. If he/she genuinely thinks that then the only thing you can do is put them right (but also thinking "you stupid **** :D) no point in getting angry about it.
John is a foreigner.. he obviously didn't say it to offend so there is no point in getting overly defensive and making yourself look like a tw@t on telly!
However, a few of you say she didn't overreact so I'll wait until I see it.. (might not even be shown though)
uh oh..I think I'm going to fall out with myself today!! :)

Yet they're not exempt from actually entering to BE INVOLVED? Seems a bit of a washout to me, personally.
I guess the same could be said for JJ as well though.
I should have said people in Australia won't be able to vote for John either. Imagine if people in Portugal had been able to vote for Rodrigo las year me might have won, who knows.

I'm from ROI, and I know what she meant - she's just pee'd off that people KEEP saying it to her. Lets face it, a lot of the BB wannabe's are probably a bit dumb, so she probably got asked 20 times over the past few days!
BTW, read some Irish history if you want to know why some of us get offended. NOT for the faint hearted...

Southern Ireland isn't part of Britain, I'd be quite offended by that statement too. Republic of Ireland has independance from Britain and it's not that nice when people say you're part of another country when you're not AND when the people had to work hard to get independance from that country in the past.
I have nothing wrong with Britain at all though, I have British cousins living there and I think this Ireland vs Britain rivalry is silly. But Ireland and Britain are two different countries independant from each other and that should be respected and acknowledged.

I didnt from what 90% of people said she did snap at him a bit, got annoyed etc..
The thing is he was just uneducated on the subject, all you need to say is no we are not part of the uk we are not british we are irish.
Hes from the otherside of the world, they dont teach him that ireland isnt part of the uk, it is joined to n ireland after all which is part of the uk, shown a uk map youd still see ireland on there because of how close it is..
Its an easy mistake for people to make especially people who arent taught about it and live outside europe.

You would find many people in Ireland who would get offended when someone says that. Me personally, don't care if people ask it or assume it.

It's understandable I think, a lot of people get annoyed when people mistake where they come from, especially if they are proud of their roots.
I get annoyed when Americans think everyone in England must live in London for example, I know that's a daft example and nothing compared to the British/Irish thing but it still annoys me, I hate London....doesn't mean all Irish hate the English though! The way she said it has given me reason to feel like this.
This is my opinion and how i felt so put your mob torches away and accept that she snapped and did jump down a man who asked a genuine questions throat.
And yeah i understand that the british used to be a bunch of c u n t s and raped the world but move on theres no point holding a grudge!
Who said there was anything wrong with being British though? I didn't, I just don't want to be British!

I'd hate to be refered as British, waaaay more than her.
What did you expect her to do? Say that she is honered to be thought of as British?
My gosh.
Seriously so i didnt actually calculate it.. i saw people say "i was offended".. by the comment and i just didnt understand why.
Which obviously caoimhe was to and showed that? is that right?
Was she calm? was she offended what?
From what ive heard she was a bit over the top. thats all, jeez...
Your just not very happy when people from other countries choose to display their patriotism or demonstrate their independence, are you? It seems written all over dozens of posts you have made on the subject in the past.
I'll probably take some flack for saying that but I have been here for years now and have seen how you go about it sometimes. It's childish.

No. Not fact. You cannot use the words 'seemed' and 'fact' in the same sentence. 'Seemed' indicates a subjective view of an ambiguous comment. 'Fact' means yeah ... she definately is offended to be called British,
The dialogue speaks for itself. She said she hates being called British. She did not say she hates the British.
If you say stupid, dim things then expect people to challenge your viewpoint. Do not tell others to 'give it up'.

And all I'm saying that if I was Irish and I got called British, or if I was Canadian and got called American or if I was from New Zealand and got called an Aussie, I would potentially be offended too. You have no problem with being patriotic you say but you're the one who seems to keep banging on about her being just that. Depends what the person in question consider themselves I suppose. If you are living in NI and consider yourself Irish then you are Irish in my eyes, and belong to what should be a 32 county ROI. No treaties or borders or anything can change that. Your Irish just like me.
If you consider yourself English and you live in NI well then I can't possibly consider that person Irish for obvious reasons. If they don't want to be they evidently aren't.

Did anyone witness the conversation between her and john on live feed?
John asked if southern ireland was uk and she got very offended and was like "No i hate it when people say that, its not uk" I was actually quite offended and i dunno why.
I know theres alot of polotics and s h i t in ireland but i didnt think someone would feel that strongly about not wanting to be british and she got quite angry about it
I have a feeling she is gonna be hated
Coming from Northern Ireland I can tell you it's a very touchy subject. But I really dont understand how anyone could think the south in part of the uk.

Thanks for clearing that up. I just always had some idea, perhaps wrongly, that people from the republic viewed the whole of the northern ireland as British, when I don't consider that true, just because there's a border around six counties doesn't make us any less Irish than the rest of the island, I consider myself Irish and was even brought up through the Irish language :P

For someone so easily offended by a look on someone elses face, you certainly don't practice what you preach!
The beautiful thing that you are too fundamentally thick to realise is that you have backed yourself into a corner.
You either really secretly think Caoimhe hates the British - which is obviously riddiculous - or you know she doesn't. In which case you have no excuse to get offended because someone felt like confirming their nationality in a high pitched voice.

Of course she would be disgusted to be associated with the UK. Read a history book. You might learn a bit about why the UK really isnt that appealing. :nono:

I was born in Glasgow but raised in London. I'm British; people in N-Ireland aren't even British but they're considered part of GB.
I think it's offensive how people in the RoI aren't allowed to vote in some of our competitions. Like this one for example. Caoimhe is from The Rep' yet her peeps wont be able to vote for her to win or w/e if she makes it that far, which IMHO takes the p***!
Do you realise just how annoying that is to me?

I'm not intending to be rude or anything, but I don't understand how Ulster can be used as a British place , in any form, Ulster/Cúige Uladh is one of the four Irish provinces that make up Ireland, and it also includes some counties from the Republic. I don't quite get how this comes around to be British?

Ulster and Northern Ireland are very different things, try talking to a monaghan man about it and you will see. Ulster was there a long time before NI, so by saying you are a proud ulsterman goes against being proud to be british, i think what you are trying to say is you are a proud Northern Irish man and a proud Britishman since they are the same thing. Ulster Culture ended with the plantations IMO. If you were truly proud to be from Ulster you ould agree.

Ulster can mean something depending which family you come from. I support the union and im proud of it.
I have Ulster heritage and im proud of it. Both are mixed in. A lot of people don't realise this.
Being an Ulsterman DOES NOT go against being british. Some one needs a history lesson. The people who fought in WW1, the 36th ulster division, a lot of them were proud to be fighting for their country. Others seen it as a way of getting home rule. Again, depending which side of the family you come from.
RIP to all them great men.

But Ulster is nothing more than what the english tried to change the word Ulaidh to when they first came here and tried to rid us of our language, when it was Ulaidh as in the province of Ireland. Ulster is Irish land, including the six counties of n. Ireland and the other counties of Ulster in the republic, I just find it kind of weird how people can use Ulster as a British term when it a traditional Irish place.

I don't know about you, but I see myself as having a lot in common with them, they're Irish people living on Irish land as are the people in the North, this is the island of Ireland and all of this is Irish land whether it has a border or not, or whether it's ruled by a queen or not. Even the president of the Republic is from the North, so it's not right in saying they don't care about us, as I'm sure the majority of the people there would agree that all of this island is Irish. Our history is the same, and our cultures are the same, and our native language, official or not, is the same.

You're perfectly entitled to your own opinion, I just feel that Eire should be returned to the way it should, as an Irish land consisting of 32 counties without borders or restrictions and united as the same Irish people without a divide and everyone respected for the nationality they are and wish, this entire island is Ireland.

Northern Ireland is part of the UK but is not part of Great Britain.
The UK, under the Act Of Union of 1800, consisted of Great Britain and (all of) Ireland.
So we were once in the UK. And all the better for it. All the best town planing are architecture are a legacy of British rule. So is the parliament and the judiciary.
Dublin is as British a town as you'll find anywhere in the UK.
