Been to watch this again tonight. Really wish I had it on DVD. :(

I always seem to notice something different each time I watch it. This time I noticed when Hermione was lying on the floor of Malfoy Manor, a strand of Bellatrix's hair fell on to her jacket.

Haha I liked that scene, was a nice touch and I loved it when Hermione all of a sudden went 'Oh my god!' and Harry went "what?!" as if she'd just cut a bald patch into his hair or something.

Yeah, isn't Umbridge described as toad like in the book or something? And the one in the films has a sadistic sweetness about her

Yeah she's often called toad faced and she's much meaner in the book. In the film I think they tried to make her funny. Personally I liked Imelda's portrayal of her but I can see why people wouldn't.

Only saw this the other night and found it probably the worst of the lot. The bulk of the film when they are on the run just dragged so bad. I found it incredibly dull. OOTP is my favourite. Of course a lot was missed out from the gargantuan book but it's the fastest paced, coming of age HP movie packed full of all the coolest characters. Anything where Lucius gets screentime can't be that bad.

It is confirmed that our favorite 'Harry Potter' character Severus Snape aka the Half-Blood Prince is going to die in the Boathouse in the upcoming 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-Part 2'.

So what's the big deal? It is big deal for us 'Harry Potter' fans, because in the book, Snape dies in the Shrieking Shack and not in the Boathouse and of course Snape is a big character he is a key, and everybody loves him.

Did the author JK Rowling agree? According to Andrew Ackland-Snow, the Art Director of the said film, JK Rowling agreed and loved it.

So why in the Boathouse? The creative team of the film wants to give a romantic ending for Snape. The team wanted to change a bit where Snape dies and to get him out from, not a conventional interior, but from that kind of box, to do it in a more dramatic atmosphere.

I always wanted Snape's death to be perfect, it'll still be good but why would Snape even be in the boat house?! :(

Awful change :bored: Doesn't that affect the whole battle bit somewhat as well?

Marsh.
19-01-2011, 09:00 PM
I don't get it. Why the boat house. The change doesn't bother me as long as the story itself remains untouched, but I don't understand why they want it in the boathouse unless they need him near Hogwarts for someone to find his body or something.

Harry Potter art director Andrew Ackland-Snow has revealed that the location of Severus Snape's death has been changed in the forthcoming movie adaptation.

In Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, Hogwarts headmaster Snape - portrayed in the series by Alan Rickman - dies at the hands of Lord Voldemort and his snake Nagini in the Shrieking Shack. Ackland-Snow confirmed that J.K. Rowling had approved changes to the scenes which will appear in the final film.

"We wanted to change a bit where Snape dies," he told the Cine Premiere Mexico. "In the book, he dies on the Shrieking Shack, and we wanted to get him out from, not a conventional interior, but from that kind of box, to do it in a more dramatic atmosphere. We asked J.K. if she agreed for that to happen in there, because we hadn't really seen it before."

He continued: "We made a crystal house, and you can see what happens in the boat house from there - Are you listening Harry? - but also the school is in flames... and she loved it. Besides, it's a very romantic place to die. Snape dies in an extremely good way, I gotta say."

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part Two arrives in cinemas on July 15.

Seems JK didn't mind. I'm guessing they'll incorporate a flashback of him fawning over Lily at the boathouse or something and then juxtapose it over him dying there, that's what I get from the romantic aspect anyway.

Yeah that was my reaction too, if it was somewhere we'd seen before in the films then I'd probably be able to understand it more but we've never even seen the boathouse in the films and it's mentioned like in one sentence in the first book? Why introduce it now? :conf:

Sure it'll still be good though, I just hope they don't cut anything from when he gives Harry his memories of him and Lily.

As far as I'm aware that's still in the film. A new scene has recently been added though involving Neville fighting a Death Eater on the covered bridge.

Some other changes:

- Scene where Ron and Hermione share their first kiss has been moved to the Chamber of Secrets
- Crabbe won't be in the film, the actor faced drug charges so Goyle will die instead
- Ollivander will be familar with the Deathly Hallows where as in the book he doesn't know what they are
- Voldemort will be searching for Harry in the woods in a new scene
- the Quidditch pitch will burn down
- scene where Ron and Hermione are chased by Nagini has been added
-final battle between Harry and Voldemort will be extended, and while other parts of the second phase of the Battle of Hogwarts will be shown, the primary focus will be centred on Harry and Voldemort.

So annoyed they didn't leave this in. The Dursley's weren't even given a proper exit in the film, I know they've had a lot of their material from the books cut for the films over the years but this scene would have only made the film 2 minutes longer. :( Would have been nice to include it, even if it was just for the book fans. Still, I hope all the deleted scenes will be as good as this one. Hoping for another Dursley one, where Dudley says "I don't think your a waste of space". Not long until the DVD release now, can't wait to watch it on BluRay.

There was a test screening yesterday in Chicago and most reviews have been positive. I've read a few spoilers but I couldn't face reading them all, still want to be surprised when I watch the film for the first time. It's the shortest film in the series, at exactly 2 hours long, but it's likely scenes will be cut/added for the full movie. It is sad that it is so short compared to the others but there's only just over 200 pages left to cover, the OOTP film was just slightly longer and is the longest book so I'm not too worried. The large majority of the film is the Battle of Hogwarts. Oh and slight spoiler but I don't think anybody will be saddened by this one:

The Molly Weasley line "Not my daughter, you bitch!" is in the film! :D

Got a few more spoilers here:

Film starts with flashback at end of Part 1 with Voldemort getting the Elder wand. First proper shot of Part 2 is Snape who's now Headmaster, standing in one of the towers looking out as the Hogwarts student march across the courtyard. Hogwarts is now guarded by the Dementors.

Dumbledore backstory has been completley cut! :bawling: But Aberforth does appear quite a bit during the Hogsmeade scenes

The Prince's Tales chapter is meant to be the best part of the film. Petunia doesn't feature though, like she does in the books and the scene from the ABC preview of Snape outside Godric's Hollow is an added non book scene of him going there the night Lily died

McGonnagall and Neville apparently have more substantial roles in the film than in the book

We don't see Lupin or Tonks die, we just see their bodies.

Fred's death is apparently very well executed and emotional

When Harry discovers a Horcrux, we see Voldemort's rage each time one is found

Apparently the filmmakers inserted humour into the plot at certain points of the film, although in the book, little laughs can be found from reading the latter half of the book. I've read that there are a few times where the humour is not necessary, yet is still there.

The epilogue is apparently "bittersweet" and it only runs for just over 3 minutes in length :bawling: :bawling:

We see flashbacks of the Potter's dying during Snape's memories

Percy's redemption is not apparent in the film, we only see him with his family at the end

Snape and McGonnagall duel (OMFG!!!! :amazed:)

Wormtail isn't in the film

Hagrid does carry Harry

Narcissa doesn't whisper to Harry like she does in the book

Trelawney and Sprout do not get much screentime

Amycus and Alecto apparently have no lines! But they weren't really introduced in the films so...

There's lots more but that's all I read up to, didn't want to spoil myself even more. Overall though I am satisfied!

I was a bit disappointed by the lack of a goodbye to the Dursleys. That could have easily replaced some of the very long camping scenes. It's a shame they ended up with practically 10 seconds of screentime. Nice to see that deleted scene.

And Dumbledore's backstory has been cut? So, how will the story work without it?

I've not liked the films since the 4th one came out and was very very pleasantly surprised with DH Part 1. By the sounds of it Part 2 might spoil it and become a shallow action film with no real story or substance. I'm worried.

Callum
03-04-2011, 03:28 PM
Yeah, but if it's in a spoiler I was assuming it was something extra that wasn't in the book that had been added?

Not everything is, didn't have the time to edit out everything that's in the book.

But I put this in spoiler just to be careful, some people (hard to believe I know) are just films fans and don't want any detail spoiled.

The "not my daughter you bitch!" Molly Weasley line is in the film :D

Callum
03-04-2011, 03:35 PM
I removed the spoilers because I looked over them a few more times and realised they weren't that spoiler-ish really. I just don't think any one of them will make anybody mega angry or upset, but if anyone does wish me to put them back into spoilers, I will. :)

Oh and marsh I agree about Dudley scene, I liked that one, shame it wasn't kept but the Dursleys were much more substantial in the books than they have been in the films, a lot of their stuff has been cut from the films over the years unfortunately.

Only a few more days until the DVD's released now, exciting!!! :amazed:

Some new info from David Heyman:

Q: In the footage we saw today, there's a scene of Snape and McGonagall facing off in the Great Hall, which I don't remember happening at all in the book.
A: They do face off, but it's not in the Great Hall. There are a lot of things there that are slightly different from the book, but they are true to the spirit to the book. Snape and McGonagall do face off in the book, but it's in a corridor as Harry's on his way to the Ravenclaw common room. It didn't work the way we were structuring the final battle to have that, so it takes place in the Great Hall. We also wanted to make a bigger scene of Harry's confrontation with Snape. Snape's role in the film is minimal, and it was minimal in the second half of the book, and yet you wanted to have the emotional investment when you see his past story [the memory Harry views in the Pensieve]. We wanted to build that up in order for it to have its emotional impact.

Hope they don't change it much more, getting a bit annoyed with hearing how things are constantly changed from the book now really.

Couldn't resist picking up the DVD on my way home. Just watched it for the second time ever. Absolutely brilliant. Lost interest in the HP films after the third one, they were badly made and just way off the mark for me. But somehow they've gone from films I couldn't stomach to sit through to full blown 10/10 awesome. Hopefully Part 2 doesn't mess it up.
I think it's probably just the complete focus on the story, and how every plot and character inclusion knits together. There's little to no extraneous detail which bored me in the other films.

Agreed. DH Part 1 is definitely the most faithful to the book. Even though it's slower paced than the previous six, it doesn't make any difference in terms of film quality, because I think it's the best film.

Going to download my digital copy of the film now, I got the Blu Ray disc with a special features disk plus a DVD disk and digital copy for under £15 from HMV.

Really wish July 15th would hurry up though, I read Hallows for the umpteenth time yesterday and I just wanna see the latter half of the book on screen now. :( They better do justice to the Battle! Still unhappy about the Dumbledore backstory being cut so I'm hoping their portrayal of the Battle will make up for it.

Yeah true, the Battle should get at least an hour plus of the film ideally. I'm sure some of the Dumbledore backstory will have to be covered though, because when the trio are in the Hogs Head, the secret passageway to Hogwarts is through Ariana's portrait so I can't see how they'll be able to not even acknowledge her at least.

I want July 15th to hurry up and be here already but then I don't because it's the end of an era. No more books, no more films, all over. :( Still have the Encyclopedia to wait for but I can't see that being released for at least another couple of years. There's also the theme park in Orlando and the Leavesden Studios set opening next year in London but there not the same as the books and films. :(

Goyle will die instead, confirmed by Josh Herdman who plays him. Not sure who casts Fiendfyre, presume it will also be Goyle but could be Zabini.

Can't stop watching this on Blu-ray :D The special features are great too! Maximum Movie Mode is well worth a watch for those who have Blu ray, it pauses the film at certain points and the cast talk about how things were made, clips from previous films explaining something, readings from the book etc.

Just a real shame the opening scene for Part 2 isn't on there. I think WB must have made a last minute decision not to put it on the disc or something because I know it was planned to be on there.

Confirmed trailer.

It’s about time! SnitchSeeker has received confirmation from Warner Bros. that a trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 will be released next week.

Here’s the press release:

ABC Family continues to be the television destination for all Harry Potter™ fans, this time by airing the U.S. premiere of the new “Harry Potter™ and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” trailer on Wednesday, April 27th. The trailer will air during a showing of “Happy Gilmore,” which airs 7:00 – 9:00 PM ET/PT.

The premiere of the new trailer will give fans a glimpse at the epic finale of the “Harry Potter™” film series, including moments from such scenes as Harry, Ron and Hermione escaping from Gringotts bank, the Room of Requirement fire storm, Mrs. Weasley taking on Bellatrix Lestrange, and Harry and Voldemort’s last stand. To get fans ready for the trailer, ABCFamily.com will be releasing one exclusive new photo from “Harry Potter™ and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” in support of the trailer’s premiere on ABC Family.

The trailer will most likely be released online soon after.

In the film, once again directed by David Yates, Harry, Ron, and Hermione return to Hogwarts after months on the run in the wilderness with the aim of finding, and destroying, Voldemorts final horcruxes. Voldemort finds out about their mission and the biggest battle of their lives begins as the Dark Lord and his Death Eaters descend upon Hogwarts.

Yes, it is very "action hero" dialogue. Hate that bit.

But, I've heard that they have a confrontation on the rooftop, Harry pulls him off the edge, then Voldemort apparates them to the courtyard where they have the final duel instead of in the great hall.

Nothing major though as far as I'm aware apart from Snape's death. Also Harry and Voldemort will apprate off a cliff like shown in the trailer too, which I'm personally not pleased about.

They have to otherwise the films would be all 4 or 5 hours each. Subplots that are in the book are cut because they aren't necessary to Harry's story. Also they have to make big Hollywood blockbuster films, so that's why big actions scene like Harry/Voldemort apparating off the cliff are added in, they want the most money as possible from these films.

Bloody Americans getting HP Marathons, I hate how they bloody treat HP as an American franchise - when it belongs to us FFS.

Hopefully ITV1 put on all HP1-6 like they did coming up to November last year.

Just a shame they probably won't air HP7:P1; then again - that's the second worst out of them all. :bored:

Ikr! They are showing the trailer over there too, I haven't seen it on UK TV once. Actually I saw it get it's "UK premiere" on Daybreak but since then, nothing.

They probably will after Part 2 has been released, knowing ITV1. But Americans get Harry Potter weekends, we don't get that. We get one of the films every Saturday night, where as in America they get a film each night. :nono:

To be fair, all us HP fans have the books. And we know they're english to the core. I think no matter how good the films may be.

Books > all

Actully can't believe how little press it has gotten..think it will be stepped up in the next 2-3 weeks..surely

I see Daniel Radcliffe is in a horror movie..still looking **** at acting. Getting roles off the back of harry potter when he really shouldn't be an actor anymore (or i'm just being harsh)

Yeah I've seen nothing neither, it's really sad considering it's the last film as well. I know in America they get the trailer on virtually every ad break. :(

Yeah true most people do know but still there's the general film fan who may not know. At the end of Part 1 there wasn't a "Part 2 coming on July 15 2011" banner at the end so I do hope the promo starts soon seeing as there's only 39 days to go now. :D

Oh and it's been announced that Tom Felton (Draco) will be presenting the exclusive clip from Part 2 alongside Emma Watson at tonight's MTV Movie Awards. Exciting!

Oh and you can still vote for Deathly Hallows Part 1 to win Best Movie at the MTV Awards here:

I would love for them to beat Twilight who have won for the past 2 years in a row.

No the producers added it in to give the film a "Hollywood" feel.

They have changed it. It happens in the Chamber of Secrets. You actually see Ron and Hermione destroy the Horcrux. They get chased by a Voldemort shaped Tsunami.

I wish they wouldn't change things. I mean I understand due to the legnth issue but I don't think they should have added any new scenes to replace old ones.

I did ask what it is and all the obvious questions but all he would say is that it's mindblowing. I think it could be a RPG or at long last, the Encyclopedia.
