Anyone else so excited for the upcoming first part of Deathly Hallows? I can't wait personally!
I wonder where the split will be, I'd have thought it would be before the Battle of Hogwarts. Maybe when the trio arrive at Bill and Fleur's cottage to discover that Dobby has died? [edited 10/07/11: I was right! :amazed:]
I don't want it to end though, it's the end of my childhood. :bawling: I've grown up with the books and the films

Yeah that is over half way but it is in the trailer. It could even end by when Harry sees the doe in the forest or sees Dean, who knows. It needs to end on a cliffhanger though I'd say.
Dobby's funeral looks so sad.

When Harry and Ginny kiss in the trailer, I paused it and behind you can see all Hogwarts students running down Hogwarts stairs so I'm assuming that's the Battle of Hogwarts which has to be in the second film.

Third part rumour was a hoax, thebeast. I love HP but they wouldn't have been able to drag it out into 3 parts, would have been too much.
New trailer will be online at 12am! So excited! The images I've seen from it look epic. There was one of Harry duelling Voldemort in the courtyard and one showing the Battle of Hogwarts.

I always imagined the final duel between Harry and Voldemort in the Great Hall with lots of people around fighting their own little duels. Mrs Weasley was definitely there in the book and McGonagall too. Can't believe they've changed it, that's like the main scene in the whole series. :(

You never know, maybe they like still have action going on in the Great Hall with Mrs Weasley and all the others fighting and then they cut to Voldemort and Harry duelling in the courtyard. Fingers crossed anyway, they can't leave the Great Hall out completely surely. :(

I say they'll still have most the battle in the Great Hall(they'll have too loads of main characters die then, and they have to have NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU BITCH! cos thats when Molly kills Bellatrix) but maybe Voldemort and Harry will go out to the courtyard? I don't know.

Hmm I hope so because one of the reason that battle is so iconic is because of the Great Hall and Mrs Weasley's line to Bellatrix. I loved how Harry had a crowd watching whilst he was duelling Voldemort but they were also fighting their own battles against the Death Eaters.
Oh and apparently in the film Crabbe is completely removed because he was arrested last year for cannabis possession meaning in the Fiendfyre scene where Draco and the trio fight, Crabbe's been replaced with Blaise.

Its actually Bill and Fleur's cottage. Shell Cottage to be exact:blush:
I'm annoyed that they've changed the final duel between Harry and Voldemort, especially when you think that the entire series has been leading to that moment. When I read it in the book I went all goosebumby and I was looking forward to it translating onto the screen.
Other than that its going to be epic. Actually scratch that, epic doesn't even cover what this film is going to be.

The Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows split point has been revealed.
Warner Bros confirmed last year that the final instalment would be released in two parts, with the second part arriving eight months after the first.
In a report, Entertainment Weekly confirmed that the split point would occur around chapter 24 of J.K. Rowling's book.
The scene will see Lord Voldermort (Ralph Fiennes) gain possession of The Elder Wand as he takes it from former Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore's (Sir Michael Gambon) tomb.
Faced with accusations that the split had happened for 'purely financial reasons', Warner Bros Entertainment president Alan Horn hit back.
"The key word there is purely," he said.
"There's no question that Warner Bros will make more money with two films than they would have with one. But we also never ever would have done this if Jo [Rowling] had not endorsed it, and if we didn't feel that we were providing a better finale, with a more full sense of closure."
He continued: "We just respect and love the books too much for that."
The Potter films' producer David Heyman previously said that the split point would be "incredibly dramatic, very moving and make people want to watch the next film".
Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part One will open in cinemas in November.

Interesting, would never thought of that point for the split.

There was a test screening last night and there's a Twilight reference! Not happy about that at all. It's just jumping on the bandwagon and getting the film and Twilight more publicity. Oh and apparently there's a scene in the film where all of Ron's worst fears come true including seeing Harry and Hermione topless in bed making out.

I hope there not going to try to add some stupid triangle-like scenes between the trio making it seem like the one from the crappy unoriginal Twilight films.
I mean I know nothing actually happens between Harry and Hermione but the last couple of films have gone on a tangent with their own drastic OTT versions of things.
Anyway, I'm most looking forward to seeing the scenes set in Godric's Hollow. I hope it lives up to how I imagined the place in the books, they were some of my favourite scenes in the last book with the Halloween flashback.

It's suitably dark in all of the right places but I imagined the scene at the table with Nagini more horror-esque. Probably more of a stephen king thing. Don't like how they took Voldemort's red eyes out of the film, his red eyes in the darkness creates a disturbing image I thought.
Plus, Dumbledore's tomb I imagined more cave-like inside. Rather than a nice white box. lol
But one image I hope they get right is when Harry is talking with Ollivander and his mind starts seeing through Voldemort's eyes and the way the book describes Voldemort's silhouette over the lake heading towards Hogwarts. Found that chilling in the book.
Can't wait for JK's interview, last one I saw was on Jonathan Ross for the final book's release. Hopefully this one will be more insightful than that.

I thought only the first two really managed to grasp the actual feel of the books.
The third wasn't like how I imagined the book but it was a good film all the same.
I've personally hated the 5th and 6th ones so I'm not looking forward to another one from this David Yates chap. So far he's demonstrated that he has a completely different idea and take on the books to me.
As for the books I think she may write another in a few years based in the Harry Potter universe but not about Harry. Harry's story is definitely finished I'd say.

Some of the supposed changes from the book. They could be worse I guess but the lack of polyjuice potion annoys me, cos it was a big part in the book. Guess they want to keep themselves looking themselves as much as possible.

That does seem a bit stupid, bearing in mind that in the book the reason that they take the Polyjuice potion when they go to Godrics Hollow is because they know that Voldemort would expect Harry to go there, especially when he visits his parent's grave.
I like that they are opening the first film with Dumbledore's funeral though, as that was one thing that annoyed me with the HBP, his death, the lead up to it and afterwards was all way too rushed considering they had just killed off a major character.

I don't mind the changes they've stated. Obviously they want more screentime for the actual actors rather than "disguise actors" but I hope they try to explain the plot hole of why they would go to Godric's Hollow with no disguise. Nagini's attack being in a brightly lit room bothers me slightly since it was very sinister and dark in the book.
And apparently they have to give exposition for appearance of characters that they didn't put into the previous films, sounds a bit crap.
Other than that there's nothing major that's changed.

The scene added about Hermione leaving her parents looks horribly sad - she has to erase their memories of her parents (all of them) so that Voldemort can't torture them for information. There was something I reblogged on Tumblr about it.

Aww I actually like that they've added that, it only gets mentioned briefly in the book, but it makes you realise how much Ron and Hermione are willing to risk/give up to help Harry on his Horcrux quest.
I'm assuming they won't be able to show Ron's part with the ghoul with spattergroit that is going to be his cover  bearing in mind the Burrow burned down in the HBP film. That was another part that annoyed me in that film, there was no need for it and they could have saved the time wasted on that for the fight at Hogwarts that led up to Dumbledore's death. They rushed that too much for me and it was almost like a non event whereas it's a big battle in the book.

They didn't want to do a big Hogwarts fight scene in HBP aas they thought it would diminish the impact of the end fight in Deathly Hallows. They added in the Burrow bit to put a bit more action in.

Meh, I still think the burning down of the Burrow was pointless and also means they can't have the lead up to the wedding stuff nor the Ron part I mentioned above in the last film now. I was really disappointed at how short and how much of a non event the whole lead up to Dumbledore's death was.

Just got back from seeing it. I loved it, had such a different feel to it without Hogwarts but it was still amazing. I got chills loads with the amount of times the dialogue or action was completely accurate to the book. The Harry/Hermione horcrux scene was just how I imagined it to be, was spooky at the same time though. The Ministry scenes were amazing, I loved the chase and Yaxley was great. Scrimegour was good but he sounded really Welsh. Was disappointed that the Dursely's never got a proper exit but the added scene with Hermione and her parents was so sad. The animation of The Three Brothers was great as well. The ending though :(

Oh definitely! It feels different from the others like I mentioned but it's just as good. Although it's worth mentioning there is lots of scenes where there's just no talking, like you just see Harry and Hermione travelling to different locations. Book fans will understand this but to new fans or just fans of the films they might find this a bit strange.

I can accept the changes this time though, because it was a great movie, they really tried to get a lot of the book in. Unlike the HBP which was a train wreck. And some of it was very close to how I imagined it in the book, which is always a bonus.

I know that but it just felt like a scene that could have better, in my opinion it should have been done later on and they should have taken her to show how bad things were.
Really want to see it again for the third time, it was so consistently accurate to the book. Except for a few bits like no Dudley shaking Harry's hand and no argument in Grimmauld Place with Lupin or Harry seeing Lily's letter. :(
Princess
20-11-2010, 04:22 PM

Vicky.
20-11-2010, 06:50 PM
Well...spoilers in here though are really going to be things that the film missed out that are in the book and that/things they changed, I think its fair enough to expect that to be in spoilers...though yeah, the actual book has been out for years and to expect some of the main talking points to not be discussed it a bit odd
To add to my crying at dobbys death...
I also didnt like how they glossed over the goodbye thing with the Dursleys and Harry, when Dudley admits that he doesnt hate him...thought that would be good to see
I liked what they did with Hedwig...when they made her sacrifice herself instead of just dying while sitting in the cage :')
Was pleasantly surprised they did not do the scene with the wizard being given puking pastels and spewing all over the place...was expecting to have to block my ears and shut my eyes :p

People started cheering and clapping at Dobby's speech at the end in the showing I was at, actually really added to the experience for me haha, cried at that too... Harry Potter has cast his biggest box-office spell yet with a franchise record $125.1 million domestically over opening weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday.
"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" also added $205 million in 54 overseas countries, bringing the film's worldwide total to $330.1 million.
In terms of domestic revenue, "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" came in ahead of the series' best previous debut of $102.7 million for 2005's "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire."
But factoring in today's higher admission prices, the latest movie had roughly the same size audience as the franchise's best previous draws — "Goblet of Fire" and 2001's "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," which launched the series. "Deathly Hallows" and those two earlier movies each sold around 16 million tickets in their first weekend.
Overseas markets for "Deathly Hallows" were led by a $28 million opening in Great Britain, $21.8 million in Germany, $14.8 million in Australia, $14 million in Japan and $12.3 million in Russia.
The movie audience has grown up along with young wizard Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and his friends Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint). Distributor Warner Bros. reported that 25 percent of the audience for the new movie was between 18 and 34, compared with only 10 percent for "Sorcerer's Stone" nine years ago.
"When we started 'Harry Potter,' basically, the audience was driven to theaters by their parents. Today, those same kids are driving to the midnight shows themselves," said Dan Fellman, head of distribution for Warner Bros.
Playing in 4,125 theaters domestically, "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" averaged an enormous $30,332 a cinema.
The huge opening bodes well for next July's "Deathly Hallows: Part 2," the eighth and final movie based on J.K. Rowling's seven "Harry Potter" novels. The franchise so far has taken in more than $5.5 billion worldwide.
Warner Bros. plans to release "Deathly Hallows: Part 2" in 3-D, which should give it a big box-office boost, since theaters charge a few dollars more to see movies projected in 3-D compared with 2-D.
"This is kind of the warmup to the potentially 3-D supercharged finale, and that could really take these 'Potter' numbers to another level," said Paul Dergarabedian, box-office analyst for Hollywood.com.
The studio had hoped to release "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" in 3-D, but the filmmakers ran out of time to convert the film, which was shot in 2-D, for 3-D projection.
"Deathly Hallows: Part 1" landed at No. 6 on the domestic revenue chart for biggest opening weekends, a list headed by 2008's "The Dark Knight" with $158.4 million. It also was this year's second-biggest debut, behind "Iron Man 2," which is No. 5 on the all-time chart with $128.1 million.
With $61.2 million Friday, "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" had the fifth-biggest opening day ever.
The film took in $12.4 million, just over 10 percent of its weekend domestic revenue, in huge-screen IMAX theaters. That broke the previous IMAX record debut of $12.1 million set in March by "Alice in Wonderland."
The figures for the UK are amazing, apparently Britain's biggest ever opening weekend sales.

^Agreed, it really was the most faithful to the book. I do find it quite strange though that the shortest film of the series is Order of the Phoenix which coincidentally is the longest book. So much was left out of that film, we hardly saw Kreacher and I was gutted we didn't get to see the spinning room in the Deparment of Mysteries. I was really looking forward to seeing the Thought chamber, the Space chamer and the Time chamber. :(
Anyone watch the "Behind the Magic" Deathly Hallows special on ITV1 yesterday? I'm going to watch it in a bit, I loved the one for HBP. :D

One thing that sort of niggled me a little was the fact they didn't mention when you say Voldermorts name they appear. Like Lovegood even did it in the house. I guess they had to change the radio bit though as it seemed quite an important thing in the film.

Me and my friend were talking today about the movie and I said I cried at Dobby dying and my friend's friend was like 'Oh no don't tell me that!' and I started ranting full on at her how it was her own fault if she hadn't read the book.

Yeah I wish they would have mentioned the taboo, because both times when Xenophilius said his name and in Shaftesbury Avenue, Death Eaters turned up and to the casual film goer this would have seemed odd, because no explanation as given as to why they randomly appeared. Another thing that annoyed me in regards to Dobby was how his death wasn't as sad as it could have been as he was only previously in Chamber of Secrets. He's also in the Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince books but he wasn't shown in the films, if he would have been then I think his death would have been even more tragic.
Also I didn't think enough emphasis was put on Dumbledore. In the books, the theme of his family and Harry being angry with him is a fairly big theme yet it was only mentioned once in the film by Muriel at the wedding and even then it was brief. I'll be curious to see how they show this in the second film because of course we meet Aberforth and he tells them about how Ariana died etc.
Oh and the mirror wasn't even explained! Book fans know it's an enchanted mirror and the eye belongs to Aberforth but film fans probably didn't have a clue what was going on because it wasn't explained. Also the portrait of Phineas Nigellus wasn't included neither! How then could Snape know that the trio were hiding in the Forest of Dean to be able to cast the patronus? In the book Phineas overhears Hermione saying it and reports back to Snape but he wasn't in the film. Would like to see how they wriggle out of that one. :nono:

Probably gonna get some stick for this but as true as it was to the book, I wasn't amazingly impressed.
I think it was probably cause I was so excited (I had my tickets booked for 2 months) and it didn't quite live up. It's still my favourite film of the year but I think that they dragged out boring bits and the exciting scenes were left too short. For example the Hermione torture scene and the majority of the last bit at Malfoy Manor.

I have to agree with this.
I wasn't wowed by it.
I think it was because I built up my expectations well into outer space. I think it will be my favourite Potter film (excluding Part 2) because it sticks with the book so faithfully. But it was never going to stand alone as a film, being half of a story, but it did what it was suppose to. And after watching the first part, I'm glad there is going to be two films. Can you imagine what a disaster it would of been if it was one film?
Things I loved about the film
1. Hermione wiping her parents memories of her. I'm glad it was included in the film.
2. Voldemort mocking Lucius Malfoy. 'My Lord?'
3. Hedwig coming back to protect Harry. Brought a lump to my throat.
4. Aunt Muriel. And the way she says 'Bathilda Bagshot'. Im weird I know:joker:
5. The Ministry of Magic. 'Your lying Dolores. And one musn't tell lies...STUPEFY!!!
6. The whole of Godrics Hollow. Especially the ruined Potter's house. I was worried they were going to cut it.
7. The Silver Doe.
8. Horcrux Harry/Hermione. Mainly because Dan Radcliffe had next to no clothes on. Even if he was playing Tonsil Tennis with Hermione.
9. The telling of The Tale of the Three Brothers. Simply genius animation and with Emma Watson narrating, it made it more chilling.
10. The whole of Malfoy Manor
11. Dobby:bawling::bawling::bawling::bawling::bawling: :bawling::bawling:
12. The 'cliffhanger' with Voldemort.

I'm gonna take my brother on Saturday. Hope it lives up to my expectations but then again it is only one half of the film really so should reserve judgement until Part 2 comes out. Quite annoyed about them forcing a Harry/Hermione kissing scene because doesn't that kind of undermine the Hermione/Ron stuff. I'm not really a fan of the pairing and found it jarring in the books but doesn't it distract from the story?
On another note, watched the Behind the Magic and how annoying is Ben Shepherd?
Funny seeing Stella from Eastenders, always thought she put that low little voice on as part of the character but she actually talks like that. lol

It did in a way (the kiss) and it was dragged out for longer than I expected. It didn't spoil the film for me but it did come across a bit Twilight-esque and I didn't see why they couldn't be wearing clothes.

I wonder how long Part 2 will be, I expect over 2 hours again but there's not that much left to cover seeing as Part 1 included 3 quarters of the book. I expect the Battle will be at least an hour and I cannot wait to see the Gringotts scenes.

well they have to cover:
- the deaths of fred, snape, colin, lupin, tonks, padfoot, bellatrix, voldemort [that's a lot of deathtime]
- the battle of hogwarts - this NEEDS to be done justice. I demand that Trelawney is seen hurling crystal balls, the NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU BITCH line, Grawp tearing at the castle walls, Sprout using grubblyplanks and other plants to attack death eaters, McGonagall destroying the two death eater-teachers, Voldemort's ceasefire and Harry going to sacrifice himself...
- the room of requirement burning to **** with fiendfyre (and crabbe's death)
- Nagini's slaughter
- introduction of Aberforth
- the break-in at Gringotts
- the Potter support radio station (and news of the Hogwarts underground Dumbledore's Army)
- Harry's supposed death scene, and Hagrid being forced to carry him [and the whole explanation of the deathly hallows again, i expect]
- the ending (some years later)
edit: omg, I just remembered where Neville is forced to wear the sorting hat and it's set alight - that bit sounded awful in the books

Potter support radio station? Doubt they'll include that in Part 2, it should have been shown in Part 1. :( They're only on the run one last time really, after the Gringotts break in and even then they don't last a full night because they have to go back to Hogwarts.

Went to see it tonight! :) Thought it was brilliant!
I did think the kissing between Harry and Hermionie was a bit suttle though. I heard reviews about that and I think people were exaggerating about it being "full on" and that. Well it was but yeah! I thought there was more sexual tension between Harry and Hermionie when they were dancing to that song on the radio! I was like "oh eyyyyy"
I think Daniel Radcliffe is turning into a fitty!!
I liked the way it ended too. With Dobby dying and Voldermort getting the wand from Dumbledore! I can't wait until the 2nd part of the film now. Shame we have to wait until July :(

I watched it Saturday afternoon and Dobby's death was done very well considering he's CGI. I was worried how it would come off but that shot of him from behind when he's stood there with his knees slightly bent on the beach when they first notice him had me wanting to cry, lol.
Also, got to compliment Emma Watson. She's usually really bad at delivering lines and acts a bit wooden IMO but she put her all into this film and really impressed me.
Alan Rickman, Bonham Carter, Fiennes etc were brill too and the score used at the end which clearly screamed "cliffhanger coming up" was brilliant. Great decision to have two movies.

I get that feeling too Nate! When he shouts he reminds me of that little boy from 'Nanny McPhee'. I guess though that over the years their acting skills were bound to change. When they signed up the 3 kids they didn't know whether they were still going to be able to act in 9 years time so they have to work with what they've got. I thought Emma Watson was great though. Move over Cheryl Cole! Emma is one of the most attractive people I have ever seen! It's a shame she had her hair cut so short though - I liked it longer.

Yeah she's currently studying at Brown University in America but recently completed a film which is released next year called 'A Week with Marilyn'.
I'm also not a big fan of Dan's acting but I think he's grown throughout the films. He's definitely better now than he was in the first few films but sometimes I find his acting comes across forced and slightly wooden on screen.
