I don't like her but she didn't choose her name and I heard - not sure if true or not - that she wanted them to use 'Keeva'. Ultimately what name is used is up to Endemol.

Its the name her parents gave her, why should she feel the need to change it because you think it sounds weird/pretentious etc.

Caoimhe is an Irish name, with an irish spelling. Nothing pretentious about it. Its a very common name here, why should it be change because some people cannot say it. Its not rocket science, listen to it said once and hey presto you've got it!

GypsyGoth

She should change it to Keeva by deed poll, anything less is pitiful.

Pitiful? Get a grip, it's her name.

The girl's name Caoimhe \

ca(oi)-m

he,

caoim-

he\ is pronounced KEE-va, KWEE-va. It is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and its meaning is "gentle, graceful, beautiful".

It should be spelt Keeva.

My name is Billy. My last name is actually Bob. There is nothing difficult to understand about my name and everyone I know has regular, easy to pronounce names, like Jack, Harry and Steve.

Caoimhe should be pronounced totally differently from Keeva.

It's like saying the name Christopher should be pronounced Winston. Pitiful!

It should be spelt whatever way her parents wanted to spell it fgs.

I'm sorry, you're attacking someone based on the name her -parents- gave her?. Pathetic reason to have a go at a house mate, for all you know the name Caoimhe may have real family significance like being the name of a well loved and respected relative, or maybe she's descended from a very important person like a scientist, or explorer or maybe a human rights campaighner.

As for the tree of temptation-screw it. You're missing the point anyway, the tree is there to make fun of people any way it/they (BB) can and to make them uncomfortable by winding them up. It wasn't picking on Caoimhe because of her name, it was picking on her because it was simply her turn to -get picked on- and the only way they (BB) could think of at the time was by teasing her about her name.

I would say Caiomhe may be pretentious, her name most definately isnt.

Before suggesting changing her name to the way it is said perhaps he should make All English people ensure their names are pronounced as they spell them eg Cholmondely to Chumley etc.

The list of place names and words in general use that the same rule could be applied too is almost endless.

Jessica.
24-06-2010, 05:03 PM

I find the name Caoimhe quite pretentious and annoying. I think the tree of temptation hit a nerve by mocking it (she looked angry lol)

I think Caoimhe should change her name to be spelt how it's said, which would be Keeva.

Otherwise, she should be known as Cay-oh-Im-he.

I also find Keeva a boring housemate, and the way she smirks when she knows Shabby likes her is pitiful. Reminds me of how Noireen used to act with Sree and Marcus.

Agree/disagree?

The name is Gaelic. It is very fashionable now for Irish people to use gaelic names the language that a few of them speak.

Disagree, like I said on your other thread:

Err no?

She's Irish and that name was probably gaelic to start with. Its a part of her heritage, and where she comes from. I'm Irish too, my full name is Niall (pronounced like the river Nile) Patrick McCrohan. Even though it really pisses me off when someone mispronounces my name, I like my name because its unique and reminds that I'm Irish. I don't wanna change my name at all.

Caoimhe is probably used to having her name mispronounced as well, and probably wouldn't have thought much of the tree taking the mick

^ Makes no sense. A pointless post.

maybe you are not as bright as you think you are.
Explanation:

"The pot" (for cooking) and "the kettle" (for boiling water) sit on the stove over the fire and become black from the flames. Example: "I'm tired of you always wearing my clothing!" Answer: "Aren't you the pot calling the kettle black? You're wearing my pants right now!"

it is an old saying yes, but since 1950's at least pots and kettles have been of a different colour to one another (no more over fire cooking). Thus stop using this ridiculous saying which no longer supports the joke. It is 2010 not 1940's

So your attempts at logic didn't quite work that time round :joker:

Sorry Billybob but the only thing that springs to my mind when I see a name like Billybob, is inbreeding yank rednecks, now I do apologise if I am under a little misapprehension, and you are not one of our colonial cousins, but the rest fits quite aptly.

You see there are rules for English, and there are exceptions to the rules, you just have to accept them.

One other thing you really should bear in mind if it can cope with simultaneous concepts, that is, just as if you ever went to the land of the Gauls (France) your name would be pronounced by them as something very different. Would you like to have to respell your name for every country you may possibly travel to?

I just feel like Caoimhe is so distant from the sound "kee-vuh" it's lolworthy, and obviously the ToT agrees. I don't find it pretentious. I have no problem with an extra "sh" sound or even big stretches like "Colonel" so long as the beginning and end give me a clue, but if your name is 阿比盖尔, yes I'm going to ask for a "dumbing down". Literally the only letter that makes sense is the "C", and that's pushing it.

I think the Caoihewfmweklfmwe meme is hilarious and should continue.

You're being very ignorant.

Caoimhe is not pronounced Keeva in English, because it's not an English name.

It's Irish which, like all languages, have different rules on pronunciation

It's just like French, for example "qui" (who) is pronounced "key", whereas in English (if it was a word) it'd probably be pronounced queue.

Or an easier example, Oui is pronounced "Wee" in French, but in English it'd be said was "ooo" or something similar

In Irish, Caoimhe is pronounced Keeva.
