Last series was an utter mess, It never went anywhere and was just completely lazily written. Let's hope the new Series can return to the quality of the first 2 series (and parts of S3).

Skins started out with a fairly realistic representation of teenage life; with dramatic embellishments to make it exciting, maybe exaggerating the drug usage etc. of the average teenager, but generally was great fun to watch, and you felt like you were growing up alongside the first generation of characters. They messed up with the second generation; and I find that unforgivable considering the actual characters were well conceived, but the plot went out the window. Series 1 and 2 were about a group of friends; Series 3 and 4 was about Effy leading on three best friends; and then a sideshow of a lesbian relationship, pushing Pandora, Thomas and Katie completely out of the picture. Katie Fitch was my favourite character of that series and she was brutally ignored for the vast majority of the two series'. The ending to series 4 was appalling, there were almost no conclusions to the story. I think the writers must have stuck their fingers in their ears to all of the 'we're sick of Freddie/Effy/Cook' criticisms of the show, because they persisted with making the three of them the main focus of series 4 as well. We weren't given a Pandora centric episode in series 4. I'd like to know why Effy was silent in the first two series, I don't particularly care that Cook's little brother is just like him.

There were so many things wrong with that series; and yet I still enjoyed watching it for the love of the original idea behind the show. I hope the new cast meet the best of both worlds... fantastic characters, portrayed as a group of friends, with a plot that goes somewhere and doesn't leave you feeling angry and as if there are a missing fifteen minutes to the conclusion of the series!

Am I the only one who thought Generation 2 was more rateable than Generation 1?

Can't help but agree. I wasn't too sure on the first generation, yet again I watch series 3 and 4 before 1 and 2 as I got 1 and 2 on DVD.

I thought Jal was boring in generation 1 and the only really good characters for me where Tony, Cassie and Anwar. Chris was just to OTT.

Pandora still remains one of my favourite ever Skins characters, from her introduction in Series 2 she always made me laugh.

Effy was, I don't know, mysterious I suppose but she was highly over-rated.

Cook was a great character, he was very believable and I enjoyed watching him too.

Freddie and Thomas were terribly boring characters. I think Pandora not getting an episode in Series 4 was a mistake, she should have had it instead of Thomas.

The twins were antastic, I loved them too, and Naomi. One of my favourite episodes was Naomily's in Series 4, I loved it.

JJ was okay. His series 4 episode was better than his series 3 one.

I cannot wait for the cast to be revealed today. It's gonna be great.

Effy, who we were originally introduced to in Series 1 was quiet, mysterious and stuck between two men, Freddie and Cook. She was Tonys sister.

It's pretty much impossible to judge them as we haven't even seen a picture of them in character or know ANYTHING about the characters themselves. Judging from the looks of the characters you can tell what character archetypes some will be though. I do hope they mix it up and don't rely on similar themes as the past two generations have.

I was kinda hoping we'd get more info on the characters though.

Looks lise it's not a bad cast though, that Freya's quite beautiful.

Looks like cats piss. I think they should call it a day now. There is only so many times you can do a different group of teens with serious social and substance problems for two series at a time. A movie just sounds ludicrous.

I guess I'm in the minority the rates the second generation far better. I loved how for the vast majority of it it was hard to pin down if Cook was actually a good fella or a bad one. I loved all of Effy I could get - whoever said she was overrated as an actor might want to provide me with links to some of her many awards and highly rated performances I have obviously never heard of - I loved JJ, loved the twins, oh and the good Dr. Foster was one of the scariest things I think I have ever seen on TV.

It returns on January 27 with its third cast - who say they have loved stripping off for their sexy scenes.

But not everyone is getting on in the act, with Will, 17 - who plays pothead Alo Creevey - saying he is annoyed that his character keeps his clothes on.

He said: "I was really excited when I first got my script - I was flicking through it looking for my first sex scene and I don't have one.

"I was gutted. I was really looking forward to getting my kit off. I wanted to get naked. It is not Skins if you don't get naked. It is a real shame."

But there was no such drought for Sean Teale, 18, who plays stud Nick Levan. He has several raunchy scenes with screen girlfriend Mini McGuinness, played by Freya Mavor, 17.

He said: "She is absolutely beautiful and I really got along with her.

"It was character-building doing the sex scenes. We talked about it beforehand, but we never rehearsed it in our own time. It just kind of flowed."

He added: "In my first week I found myself doing a lot of nude stuff. I was thrown in at the deep end on my first day - I was naked and I got puked on. It made my opening experience quite rough."

Sean added: "My parents would have loved me to have been in a period drama instead.

"My dad was flipping through the channels once when the last series was on and when he saw Skins he was absolutely gutted, so they are bracing themselves for what is to come.

"They are going to close their eyes and not watch some of the stuff."

But single Sean said he was looking forward to the attention from girls that the series will bring.

He said: "I want to be professional, but I do want to enjoy the attention as well.

"But you have to be careful - a lot of these people won't have wanted to know me before I was in Skins."

Bosses have said there will be more of a focus on the girls in this series, after the boys took centre stage last time. Jessica Sula, 16, who plays prim Grace Violet, said she was apprehensive about taking the role at first because of the show's sexy reputation. She said: "When the show first came out it was a big shock. I was only 11, so I was a bit young. When I told my mum I was going to audition for it, she said, 'Is it that show?'

"But my mum understands this is what I want to do. She understands it is only on TV."

Producers have promised the new series will be more fun after the last run was criticised for being too dark, particularly when one character got battered to death.

Series producer Matt Strevens said: "Things were heavier in the last series because the characters were older and had bigger things to deal with.

"But with the new cast, they are younger and we can have some fun with them. We want to bring more of its silliness back in."

Alexander Arnold, 18, who plays heavy metal fan Rich Hardbeck, added: "It is still dark in places. It isn't a political show - it is just a representation of youth culture.

"We lay out scenes that viewers can relate to."

Most of the new actors are unknowns, with several being chosen after taking part in open auditions which attracted more than 10,000 wannabes.

But one cast member is more familiar - Dakota Blue Richards, 16, who plays Franky Fitzgerald. She previously starred in Hollywood movie The Golden Compass.

But she said that having fame before had not changed her take on joining the show.

She said: "I don't think it has given me any kind of advantage because this is so different to what I have worked on before. I have never done TV and it all moves so much quicker.

"The others wouldn't ask me for tips. We all have our ups and downs, but generally we all get on. It is quite nice because I have never worked with people my own age before." Dakota's androgynous character also misses out on raunchy scenes - only because she doesn't know what she likes yet.

She said: "My character doesn't have sex with men or women yet. She is very innocent. She is so reserved and buttoned up - I would love to have some nude scenes.

"I am very jealous that most of the others get raunchy scenes. This series has the potential to be the best yet as it is so different."

But Dakota conceded the new cast will have to put some work in winning over die-hard fans who grew accustomed to the old faces.

She said: "There will be some prejudice about it as it is the third generation." Jessica said she had already suffered internet abuse, despite the series not even starting yet.

"But the sad thing is that they don't even know us yet."

Several former Skins stars have gone on to huge international success, such as Nicholas Hoult - who starred in Tom Ford's Hollywood movie A Single Man - and Dev Patel, who appeared in the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire.

Sean - who is deferring a university place to do Skins - said: "It is a fantastic springboard as a show and you can really up your profile from it. Quite a few of us want to carry on in acting after.

"But I am realistic about the industry and my parents made sure I have a back-up plan with uni."

But Sebastian D Souza, who will play Matty, admits he was concerned about telling his parents he had won a part in the show because of the programme's raunchy nature.
He said: 'I only told my mum I'd been cast, so she didn't think I'd become a druggie in Bristol or something.
'Matty is ambiguous within the group, which is why he doesn't have a surname. He affects each of the characters without meaning to.'
Layla Lewis, who stars as Liv Malone, added: 'I'm from Bristol and for the first series the casting director came to my school, but I chickened out of the auditions.

'I'm pleased I eventually went for it. I based Liv on me at 16, because back then. I wanted to be cool, too.'
The eight starring roles are all very different, and the actors explained their characters' different characteristics.
Dakota Blue Richards, who plays Frankie Fitzgerald, said: 'Frankie starts as an outsider and has lots of conflicts with Mini.

'She's grown up in the care system and never had a family. She now lives with two adoptive gay dads. There's also a sex scene that hints as Frankie's dark past.'
Alex Arnold, who plays Rich Hardbeck, has the task of taking on the show's metalhead, explaining: 'Rich is - as his name describes - really middle class.

'He's tried to escape by wrapping himself in the lyrics of slayer. He's a metalhead, so I wear a long wig in the show.'
Jessica Sula, who stars as Grace Violet, is the show's resident female heartthrob, and said: 'Grace by name, grace by nature.

'She's really fun to play. Her character is inspired by iconic people, like Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly.'
Sean Teale, who plays Nick Levan, also described his character, explaining: 'Nick's the rugby captain. Mini is his girlfriend. On my first day I was stood in tight purple boxers getting puked on. And I smashed up houses on my last day.'
The fifth series also features a cameo appearance from a very famous model-turned-actress.
Freya Mavor, who plays Mini McGuinness, said: 'Mini is very determined and a bit of a b***h. Kelly Brook plays my fitness instructor. It makes sense, since she's so hot. It was funny working with her; the crew had their jaws by their knees.'

The photos- reveals that the first episode is 'Franky'. We see her and some mates by a swimming pool, she seems quite friendly with rich and Mini seems to be looking quite aggresive towards her. Also there's some sort of PE class.

It’s Franky’s (Dakota Blue Richards) first day at Roundview. She’s just moved to Bristol from Oxford and she’s determined not to be a loner any more. Think again; her alternative boyish style immediately singles her out. Mini (Freya Mavor) is quick to get in the first joke, backed up by bezzy mates Liv (Laya Lewis) and Grace (Jessica Sula). To make matters worse, Franky accidentally floors Mini in a muddy and vicious hockey game. Whoops.

Franky tries to blend into the background, but is befriended by farmboy Alo (Will Merrick) and metal Rich (Alexander Arnold), who think Mini is a total witch, but y’know, a hot witch, the kind you’d like to shag. Mini warns her not to hang around with such dicks, and invites her to hang with them instead. Keep your enemies closer and all that…

The girls go back to Franky’s: Mini digs for dirt and a few emotional weapons to stick in her arsenal and uncovers some painful memories Franky would much rather leave behind her in Oxford.

And so it begins…

The first episode of Skins USA was TERRIBLE. The bleeps were distracting and it was just offensive to the original. Saying that though Tea> Maxxie on the grounds she can actually act.

They should have gone with new characters instead, it wouldn't have been so disgusting if they weren't raping the originals.

I was a bit shocked at how terrible and cringe it was sometimes, especially the bleeps and how they reproduced the exact same scenes and quotes.

However, I like Tea and Caddie as they're not exactly the same as Maxxie and Cassie (Cassie is still the best).

I was so excited for Season Three of Skins and that let me down terribley so although I'll watch S5; because there's nothing else on, I'm not expecting much from it.

I remember watching S1E1 when it first aired on E4 and loved S1+2 but in the last two seasons, the characters were so two dimensional and I didn't really emphasise with any of them. Whereas I liked all the original cast.

I think I liked Pandora most and I was lucky enough to meet her at (would you believe it) the top of the empire state building on a trip to America. She was absolutely lovely and let us all get a picture with her. :)

"WE can't wait for Skins series 5 to start on the telly box, and we're even more excited after hearing that they plan on out-raunching themselves.
According to Laya Lewis, who plays party animal Liv in the fifth series of Skins, says this season will feature the "most graphic sex scene" ever - which is terrifying, considering how graphic previous seasons have been.

Episode 1- 'Franky' Review-

[[[[[CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS]]]]]

"The brand new series of Skins will be hitting our screens with a bang – literally! One involving its new star Franky (Dakota Blue Richards) on an out of control mobile scooter crashing into a bike shed on her first day at a new school.

Franky is your typical ‘class reject’, dressing against the grain with boyish clothes, short hair, and no makeup, she is noticeably socially awkward. Bullied at her old school, she has moved with her two gay foster dads to Bristol to try and build a new life there and escape her past.

But her past soon catches up with her when her new ‘mean girls’ type friends discover the website ‘Franky ain’t got a fanny’. Before she knows it there are pictures from the website of her being humiliated about her body plastered all over the school. To say you feel a little empathy for her would be an understatement.

There are some really funny moments that a drama as gritty as skins needs. Particular highlights were Franky’s gay dads who strike a healthy balance between cringe and cool, being very parentally protective on the one hand but happy to say ‘dick splash’ on the other.

Also, the English teacher was satisfyingly eccentric. He demonstrates what could be described as a controversial teaching style, opening up his shirt to reveal a tattoo of Charlotte Bronte’s face on his chest and exclaiming: "This is the original punk, Charlotte ******ing Bronte!"

Certainly high praise is necessary for Dakota Blue Richards (most known for playing Lyra in The Golden Compass), who captivates Franky’s mysterious androgyny exceptionally well on screen. The opening episode does a great job of introducing the new characters and setting up the new direction of the series.


For you hard-core Skins fans out there sorry, no sex in this one! But you still get to witness two types of drugs being taken, shop-lifting, shooting with a BB gun and a semi-naked swimming pool scene.

Overall it seems to have gained back the appeal of containing likeable characters, which series four and five only mildly delivered. Also, that element of ‘too cool for school ‘ of the previous cast has been, thankfully, shaken off. This new generation seems to have struck a balance between the playfulness of the original cast (remembering Sid and Chris) and the darker side of the second (like Cook and Effy).

If you want to watch an endearing bunch of teenage misfits going through the trials and tribulations of how to cope in the adult world with drugs, sexual identity, relationships and with a bit of humour thrown in then Skins will appeal. If you were mad about series three and four then series five seems to be taking a less hard-edged route so far. However, if you’re a fan of the early skins, as I am, you won’t be disappointed.

I agree. It was much better than the first episode. Tea is a good character and the actress is nice aswell. Hopefully they didn't copy everything from the UK version. I like it to be honest.

That'd still be very decent ratings for E4. If I remember correctly the first series of Misfits only averaged 300,000 and that was considered a huge success. I reckon it'll get around 600-800k.

Stanley is just LOL and lame compared to Sid, they really screwed up on this one. I like Caddie so far, she seems to have another story compared to Cassie, she's crazy but in another way. And Tony isn't great too.

Michelle, Daisy and Tea are probably the best, story wise and character wise. And the American Michelle is much hotter than the British one :joker: So is Daisy.

So to sum up the first episode, we have a weird girl who lives in a house with Novo and Claymores. A bitch who is kinda good looking but a pretty crap character. Two lads that are threw in there for the comedy factor, except they aren't funny. Then a few other characters who don't do much.

It was an alright first episode, better then I thought it'd be. I don't like the whole Mean Girls thing though, none of them have the charm to pull it off at the moment. In terms of first episodes I'd say:

I think I only really like Franky & Matty at the moment though, the other characters just didn't leave any impression apart from Liv, she seems like a female Chris.

Having rewatched the previous series recently I still think Gen 1's the best. The only bad episode was the first and the characters were better and more believable I thought. Gen 2 was good but it was let down by an inconsistant Series 4 in which they replaced Naomi & Emily with a pair of hosepipes and ignored Pandora in favour of Thomas... Thomas was the worst Skins character ever.

I liked it, it was intense. Dakota Blue Richard is such a good actress, you can feel she already has experience compared to the others.

Mini is Katie Fitch 2.0: the bitch who has self-esteem issues.

The rest are alright. Matty looks like a deep character. Grace, Alo and Rich are fun.
