You're all quite naive if you reckon this isn't common.

Melons are better if you're on the more gentle side. Watermelons are a common choice, but Cantaloupe melons are generally considered the melon of choice, as their centre is harder, so doesn't turn to slush as easily (and has less pips).

If you're a bit more rough, pineapples are the best of the exotic fruits because of their sturdiness, as melons can fall apart if you're too rough. However, to avoid discomfort when using pineapples, wear gloves or your hands could be scratched to death and also use "protection" as the pineapple's acidic juices can be quite nasty - could sting for days.
