Cher Lloyd on V Festival bottling: I don't know why it was a big deal

Cher Lloyd has admitted that she was upset about being bottled at V Festival last month, but hasn't taken the incident personally.

The singer, who was booed and had a bottle of urine thrown at her while performing at the music event back in August, explained that she hasn't let the abuse affect her as there are more important and positive things happening in her career.

Asked how she managed to get past the incident, Lloyd told Sugarscape: "Just to step back for a minute and realise that there's so many good things going on in my career at the moment.

"We've got everything in the US, we've got this fragrance in the UK. I mean, there shouldn't be anything that's going to get me down.

"At the time I was upset about it, but the amount of support that artists have shown me and it's made me realise that it wasn't personal, it was actually something that happens to all the artists."

She added: "I heard it happened to Beyoncé. Now if that can happen to Beyoncé, I don't know why it was a big deal about me."

Cher Lloyd's debut US single 'Want U Back' was recently certified platinum in America after selling over a million copies.

The star's first fragrance, called Pink Diamond, is on sale in the UK now.

Lloyd stated that she has grown up since she burst onto the scene in 2010's The X Factor.

"I was an absolute bitch. I raise my hands up to it. I was aggressive, I was cocky.

"I put my foot in it. I built up this big persona of 'I'm the bees knees' and then I had to deal with it and pick up the pieces.

"It wasn't the person I am - I put it on because I was terrified every single day that I was on the TV show.

"I read the papers and I looked online and I almost didn't believe it was me. I got more and more frustrated and I wouldn't do interviews. I was a nightmare. I was aggressive and I thought the whole world was against me and I don't know why. It was weird."

She added that she is pleased with how well her career has taken off, including 'Want U Back' selling over a million copies in the US.

"I feel content and I'm happy. Would I be happier at home or out there travelling the world making music? It's a no-brainer, I should be grateful. And now I am."

It peaked at #12 on Billboard Hot 100 (I think that's the main US chart?) but reached 4/5? on itunes and 9 on radio.

The producer, who has penned songs for One Direction, Britney Spears and Usher, has predicted that the US edition of Lloyd's debut will enter in the top ten this week.

When British breakout Cher Lloyd brought her music to our American soil, we quickly fell for the X Factor UK alum. Songs like “Swagger Jagger” and “With Ur Love” hit airwaves in 2012, helping her debut album, Sticks and Stones, peak at number nine on the Billboard Hot 200. Although the album has only been out in the US since October, the material has been floating around her motherland since 2011, which is why she’s eager to get some new material out. Lloyd told us she’s still unsure about when that’ll happen, but is hoping people will hear new music by the fall.

“I am trying to make these lovely people wearing suits bring it out quicker just because I owe it to the fans,” she said. “They have been waiting very patiently, and I feel I’ve worked really, really hard on this one — not that I didn’t work hard on the last one, but I’ve been a lot more involved. Hopefully I’m looking at September. So that’s pretty soon.”

While the details around the release date are still in the works, Lloyd was adamant about the fact that we’ll be seeing a different side of her, thanks to the well-known Swedish producers she has enlisted and the British sounds she’s tapping into.

“I’m very excited about the [new] album,” she said. “I’ve slightly veered off a little bit from this sort of bubblegum pop stuff I used to do. I feel like I’ve grown a lot over the past couple of years. So I think it’s time for me to venture out and not play it safe anymore. You might hear some crazy stuff very soon – maybe a bit of garage, a bit of drum and bass. I’m bringing my English back!”

And with these new directions Lloyd promises to take on the new record, she explained how the approach is different from her first album. “On the first record, you kind of do the nodding, ‘OK, OK,’ because you don’t necessarily have the right to be like, ‘I want this, and I want that,’” she said. “On the second record, I’m like ‘OK, I’m going away for a while to do my stuff and then present it to you,’ and that’s what I did.”

Lloyd was mum about who she may have been sharing the mic with on the sophomore album, but she did reveal that she got a lot of help from the Swedes – her latest musical obsession. “I feel like it’s working with certain producers,” she said. “I’m absolutely obsessed with the Swedish crowd. I think my whole album is basically Swedish people.”

There’s one Swede in particular she’s really excited to have worked with – Shellback. “I’m extremely lucky to have Shellback to executive produce my whole album,” she revealed gleefully. “Extremely lucky. When I think about it, I’m like, ‘Wow, what’s going on? What happened?’ I must have smiled a lot at him or something.”

She continued, “People are going to be very shocked. I’m not the young pop girl I used to be. I’m growing, and I’m changing. The fans are doing that with me, too, and I can’t be dressed up in bright pink forever. I can’t have glitter on my eyes forever. I need to grow up and need to do the stuff that makes me hungry and makes me want this really bad – that’s to move on and outside the box.”

It annoys me how people think just because she divides opinion in the UK that she won't do well elsewhere, people abroad appreciate her talent than they do here in this spoilt country.

Not being as successful in the UK market isn't the end when there is other countries you can target to showcase your talent and be successful in. So I am pleased at how things going for Cher, but of course she is still appreciative of her UK fan base and does not forget us despite her success in the USA etc!

Glad that Cher is doing well and that she will be touring etc, it will be promotion for her new singles and to make her fans happy by performing.

She will have to change her label hopefully if they are not fully committed to her as an artist. Cher will have to be brave and not be scared to make decisions when it comes to her career.
