Last of the Summer Wine actress Jean Fergusson is joining Corrie to play Charlotte's mum.

Jean has played tart-with-a-heart Marina in comedy sitcom Last of the Summer Wine since 1985. As Marina, she raised many laughs as Howard Sibshaw's bit-on-the-side.

In Corrie she will play Dorothy Hoyle, who is under the impression that Charlotte and John are to be married.

Jean has been signed for six episodes and she began filming earlier this week.

The wreckage of the Coronation Street tram crash could reportedly be used by John Stape to hide the body of Charlotte Hoyle.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Charlotte, played by Becky Hindley, would be killed off after she begins blackmailing John Stape. The pair hid the body of Colin Fishwick after he died during a confrontation.

The Daily Star claims that scriptwriters are now discussing a possible murder, which could see John (Graeme Hawley) hide her body in the carnage caused by the December crash.

"There is so much secrecy surrounding the tram crash and who dies in it that some of the actors are really jittery about what happens," a source told the paper. "There are all kinds of rumours flying about but the Stape murder plot has got people really talking."

They continued: "It would be a brilliant piece of writing and would make fantastic TV, a terrific twist among all the carnage of the tram crash, with the question on everyone’s lips: 'Will Stape get away with it?'

"It's a brilliant plan to bring in record ratings."

Corrie has plenty of young characters;

David, Rosie, Sophie, Sian, Ryan, Graeme and Tina, that's all thats needed

EDIT: Not saying there is anything wrong with Hollyoaks, it's just Corrie focuses on all ages, where as HO leans more to young adult characters
