OK we've had the 'royal announcement' but why now is Kate Middleton all of a sudden "Katherine Elizabeth Middleton" ???
Kerry

Who is Katie Middleton?
Prince Williams fiancée

Just googled.
Because it is her real name and she is getting married so she is going to go with Catherine. :conf:
She isn't going to get married with the name Katie as it isn't her real name.

I know it's her full name. I'm not stupid. I'm saying that all of a sudden people are referring to her as that when she's always been 'Kate'. She gets engaged and it's all of a sudden "Catherine Elizabeth" just cos she's marrying William.

You dont half write some rubbish Thomas.
Its called etiquette, with the formal announcement of the royal engagement, her and billy have formed a contract, one of the by-products of this contract is the elevation from middle class shag for a future king to accepted member of the Royal Family and unless something happens with Charles and Camilla the next Queen.
Now the media are sucking up to her is all.

Apparently 'etiquette' as the Queen refuses to allow marriage unless they have been together at least 5 years these days

Yeah but there is a slight difference between being together as in having a relationship for a few years and living together. His royal williness sort of decided to have her live in first. Sort of took his nana's comment literally.

But her friends and family etc will still call her Kate. The point Kerry was making which you seem to have missed is that its the press who have gone all formal since the announcement of the royal engagement.
Her full name was the same before the engagement. It hasnt changed, only the way they have started referring to her.
And she doesnt have a marital name because she isnt yet married.
Incidentally its deed poll

Just a reason as to why she may be now referred to as Catherine. Surely that is what this thread is about? Or are you not happy if people don't agree with your side of it?

What I'm saying is hardly not understandable. I raise a reason as to why which is very explainable.

I take it by "very explainable" you mean something along the lines of a valid reason or a logical reason?
No Thomas its not, you said her "marital name", she doesnt have one yet, if she does get married to the prince her Marital name will be Windsor, but as she will be marrying into the throne she doesnt need to use a surname. They get to do that.

I don't think I have. You say the reason why the press are suddenly calling her by that name and I said maybe because of the engagement.

No Thomas its not, you said her "marital name", she doesnt have one yet, if she does get married to the prince her Marital name will be Windsor, but as she will be marrying into the throne she doesnt need to use a surname. They get to do that.
So I used the wrong wording.
Will she be married with the name Kate, not real name, or Catherine -birth name?
My point stands as a reasoning to why they may be referring to her as that now.

Thomas you initially said "It's the only reason I can think of as to why she would change her name or ...." She didnt change her name, Kerry's point was the press had started changing the way they refer to her.
Its extremely unlikely that she asked the press to start calling her by her full name now is it? Some quarters of the media would just laugh at that wouldnt they?

What is your problem? - that is the name on her birth certificate and that's how it will appear on her marriage certificate. We call William "Will", but he will be King William and she will be Queen Catherine. Our Queen was/is called "lizzie", "Lisbet" and "Beth" by her family and friends, but she is Queen Elizabeth to the rest of us - that's protocol.

This is exactly what I was getting at. A totally valid point that has been rubbished. A debate? pfft.
You've just explained it better, but the bit in bold is what I was getting at so it would make perfect sense with the announcement of the engagement to call her by her birth name.

I don't have a problem thanks. I was simply saying she's all of a sudden referred to as Catherine by the media. I know perfectly well what her name is.What I mean is she's always been known and wanted to be known as Kate. Now an engagement makes the media call her Catherine. Why? Becuase it sounds more 'royal' ??

I don't see the problem. Most people call me Ben, but in the professional world people refer to me by my full name (which I prefer). It is, after all, her full name, and Queen Kate sounds a bit weak. Besides it's not like they will pass a law which means you have to refer to her as Queen Katherine, I'm sure she doesn't care how people say her name.

Stop being silly Kelly. Catherine is going to make a very nice addition to the Royal Family.
It's just traditional. The Queen was known as "Lilibet" before she became the Queen to her family; many of us have shortened forms of longer names or nicknames that we are commonly known as - the monarchy like to maintain a regal sense to everything so she'll be known as Catherine in the royal sphere but Kate in the private sphere... It's nothing new.
