Coronation Street newcomer Paula Lane has revealed that her character Kylie Turner will marry David Platt in a shock new storyline.

The actress, who has played Becky McDonald's irresponsible half-sister for six months, announced the surprise news during an interview on Loose Women this afternoon.

Asked what 2011 will be like for Kylie, Lane replied: "Fab! I'm going to be really busy as of the end of January, so I'm just relishing this time off that I've got at the minute."

The star added that fans can expect "wedding bells" in the coming months before naming David as Kylie's new husband.

She continued: "To be honest with you, I've not even read the scripts yet, but I think it comes about in Tenerife, so I'm told - but that could change. So that is going to be a really good combination - I can't wait to see what the writers have got planned."

Meanwhile, show bosses confirmed that David will return from holiday newly-engaged within the next few months, leaving his family stunned when he announces the identity of his fiancée. The pair then start making plans for a spring wedding.

A Coronation Street spokesperson said today: "Kylie and David are trouble as individuals so the thought of the two of them getting together is a nightmare prospect for both their families.

"But it will certainly make for exciting viewing for Corrie fans - Kylie and David are fantastic characters and there is no end to the trouble they will cause for everyone."

As announced yesterday, Lane is in the running for the 'Best Newcomer' prize at this year's National Television Awards.

I took the dog out and missed that part of the show :bored:

SPOILER ALERT: As if 2010 wasn't bad enough for Gail, there's an even bigger shock in store for her this year when David returns from holiday engaged.

And his new fiancée is not exactly Gail's dream daughter-in-law.

The Platts and McDonalds are left reeling after discovering her identity - Becky's wayward sister Kylie!

Becky and Steve believed they had seen the last of Kylie when she sold Max to them last year and after Tracy took Amy off them over Christmas, they now face the prospect of losing little Max too.

Both families are hoping the couple from hell will soon go their separate ways, but David and Kylie are determined to prove everyone wrong and immediately start planning a Spring wedding.

Our press officer said: “Kylie and David are trouble as individuals so the thought of the two of them getting together is a nightmare prospect for both their families.

Kylie, played by Paula Lane, arrived in Weatherfield in 2010 and quickly made her presence felt as Becky’s kid sister. She stole Mary’s camper van, nicked cash from her own sister, tried it on with Steve McDonald and then sold her own son to get enough cash to live abroad.

I like her:joker:, although Corrie really need to brush up on their bad girls, I mean even Tracy Barlow is just laughable when it comes to be really evil.. Hollyoaks did it better with Clare Devine;).

Oh dear, Phil Collinson used all of his creativeness in the 50th anniversary week. Sally and Tyrone; David and Kylie; Tracy and David/Nick; Michelle and Ciaran. Boring.

It's not just him Santer was fond of the love triangles while he was in charge of EE and BK was the same when he was at Hollyoaks...

It's not that they're triangles (I like the Carla-Peter-Leanne one) but Sally and Tyrone, Michelle and Ciaran, David and another girl he's go psycho on. It's just boring. Really wish the tram had flattened Tyrone.

Oh right yeah, I was quite blunt there. :p

I just find Kylie really irritating and David isnt a marriage type of guy (just yet anyway..), just seems silly to me. Why do they need to have a 'wedding' to prove the others wrong? Meh.

Scarlett.

lol :p I think that's what's interesting about the story - it all seems unlikely, which must mean there's ulterior motives

Thats what i said Chewy
I think its something to do with Max personaly like she gets some advice that it looks better if she has a stable family i know she sold him but she might change her mind

I'm not too sure about that. David is the obsessive kind, look how he was with Tuna. Just say he falls for Kylie it wouldn't be totally out of character if he was to try and keep hold of her, even if that meant marriage.

Also, David loves to shock his Mother and if she shows signs of disapproval I can see him going for it with anyone.
