Glad Adele is #1, it's about time she got one and Someone Like You is a great song which is better than Born This Way. I love both though and can see Gaga getting to #1 next week or the week after, I am surprised she couldn't even make no. 2 though.
YOU CAN'T POLISH A TURD
I wouldn't go that far. You're dealing with the pop business here.

ridiculous
the Gaga song had more hype and build up than any song I can remember. It was a contrived publicity stunt to gain maximum exposure worldwide so she didnt even have to do promo round the world.
Everybody has heard the song plenty and just dont wanna buy it as much as you think!
if she needs a mega million video to sell her song then it just proves how lame it is by itself. Adele doesn't need flashy imagery.
Born This Way has had way more promo than Adele's song, not too mention all the hype surrounding it before it was even released, #3 must be pretty embarassing really
Just watched Adele's Brits performance, wow...

the reason why gaga hasn't got number 1 is purely down to how stupid her fans are
if they hand't all downloaded the song on the Friday and waited for the following monday, then she would of almost certainly got #1.

Good. Will stop the Gaga-fanatics thinking she'll just get the #1 because shes Gaga, she needs to earn it like the rest of them out there producing music.
The song is not awful, but its far from brilliant, doesnt deserve to be a #1 hit, Jessie and Adele's songs both did!

Well deserved. BTW is wank and doesn't deserve the position it's got nevermind No1. It's a gigantic fail when someone like Lady Gaga who has been hyped beyond belief can't manage to beat a song that's only been performed live and isn't even an official single and another that's been out for weeks. The UK No1 should have been a walk in the park for Gaga. I guess it speaks volume about the quality of the song that not even the brainless masses want propel it to the pole position.

But barley anyone is talking about or has been talking about the way they were with Poker Face.

So yeah, Born This Way, may of been 'successful' in over 20 Countries but that's only because it's fans haven't shut up about it.
I mean what, 1 or 2 weeks at Number 1?

Okay, first of all I've actually heard a lot of people talking about it at my school so idk about yours. :/
Secondly people slating it on YouTube don't mean much. Its the critical reviews that matter and the majority of those are positive.
And lastly I think most of them love it. Which big Gaga fan has said they dislike Born This Way? Pretty much every other Gaga fan I know is in love with the song. :L

None of her other songs were hyped up for about 8 months before it actually came out, thats the reason it sold so much. Do you really think it would have sold so many without that? :L
Gaga fans need to admit the song is weak and the only reason its were it is is on the back of the hype and her previous big hits.

But surely you expected it to be number 1? It's been hyped for ages, been out since last friday and since then she performed it elaborately at the grammy & it's been played quite a lot on the radio. Compare that to Adele, I dont think very many people knew anything of her song until tuesday, she didnt receive very much promo for it and it was essentially her one performance at the Brits which won it for her. And Jessie J's Price Tag has been out for quite a while now, I would have thought that most people would have expected BTW to easily be number 1 this week

It's been out a week and 2 days, no video and it's @ #3, y'all seem to think that it's over and it won't climb anymore, which it probably will when the video is released. For a first single of a new album it's terrible, given the hype and who she is she should have easily claimed number 1 given her compettion. Paparazzi got no3 and that was like a 3rd/4th single. It's a terrible song and it's only the Gaga fans that have got it to where it is and it won't go any higher now if it can't beat such easy competition in it's first full week of sales.

Rob Sheffield of Rolling Stone commended the nods to Madonna, giving the song four stars out of five, and commenting that "'Born This Way' sums up all the complex Gaga mythos, all her politics and Catholic angst and smeared lipstick, in one brilliant pop blast. [The song is] an event, a statement, the most anticipatrended song in the history of recorded music, or at least since Britney’s 'Hold It Against Me'."
the last line confuses me.

I'm been a fan of Gaga since the start but I must say #3 is pretty bad for the first single from the new album. I thought it would at least climb to #2 this week, but for Jessie J to beat her who's track 'Price Tag' has been available for a good few weeks now is bad. Not overly bad like some people are making out and it's not what I'd consider a 'flop' but it is bad for Gaga standards. There's still a chance it could climb to #1 but if she's really leaving the video release until Thursday then she will only have 2 days to do it and that's unlikely to happen.
Personally, I wish she would do some promo for it. I know she's busy but doing no promotion over here and relying on the music channels and radio to sell it is bad. When your a singer, your expected to do some promotion, as a duty to make sure your song sells but doing nothing at all is pretty lame. I know she did the Grammys but like Smithy said that was watched by less than 200,000 people here. She should have really thought about all of this before releasing the single, making sure she had some time promote the song. I'm aware that she's touring currently but still I wish she would have done some.
It was @ 30 something last week :conf2: it was in the chart show last week, and it is a single http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Someone_Like_You_(Adele_song) :conf2:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/singles/print - says here it was at 47 last week. That wiki article doesnt say it was a single either.
The point is that Gaga not having a video doesnt mean #3 is a good position considering that Adele's song has had no promotion other than the Brits performance; the wiki link you put in your post even says that. If she can reach number 1 and climb 47 places with no promo then Gaga should be able to do it with the most hyped song of the year, the first single from a hugely hyped album as well.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/singles/print - says here it was at 47 last week. That wiki article doesnt say it was a single either.
The point is that Gaga not having a video doesnt mean #3 is a good position considering that Adele's song has had no promotion other than the Brits performance; the wiki link you put in your post even says that. If she can reach number 1 and climb 47 places with no promo then Gaga should be able to do it with the most hyped song of the year.
Well it was 30 something the week before then :hmph:
And it does, it says on the right hand side, single by Adele. And my point is, if she'd of had the full 7 day sales she would be #1, it's just she shot herself in the foot by releasing it last friday.

Oh right I missed that, it was just cos someone on here said it wasnt actually a single :p And maybe it would have done, I still think it should be expected to beat Adele & Jessie J, just my opinion though :spin:

I think it must have recently been made a single as a last minute decision because it's doing so well. I know the plan was originally for Set Fire to the Rain to be the second single.

IIRC, It was gonna be SLY then they changed it to SFTTR, then when it got into the top 40 on downloads alone, they changed it back.

How can a song that topped nearly all the iTunes stores upon release be a fail. Wow...*Rolls eyes and swaggers out*
relatively speaking it is a fail.
Hitting number one is not a big stretch for an artist of her status. Especially with a brand new song from a new album...following a 10mill plus album. And at this time of the year too when sales are low. Also..
easy to create huge instant high demand when you build up the pressure and then pop the cork. Nobody even got to hear it prior to its release. How often does that happen? Obviously it would create a big surge of interest...which of course was the plan.
Adele's Rolling in the deep was out there a good 3 months before its release and STILL went on to be a huge hit worldwide. And it will hang around for months. Because it is a quality song with substance. I suspect BTW will quickly plummet.
Musically it is certainly a fail. Even her fanatics are admitting its her worst single. So much for moving forward.

ever since gaga left the fun persona of the first album which was phenominal she has gone rapidly done hill mainly because shes trying to hard to become this mother monster who is a hideous creature that now makes dreadful music as shown with born this way which is just terrible and lets hope the video is better than alejandro and she gets rid of those stupid prosthetic horns
yay for adele
The problem with Lady Gaga is she has absolutely no sense of humour. Everything she does is so po-faced. She looks a fright but she thinks she's a Real Artist, when all she is is a amalgam of past pop artists (Madonna, Bjork, Alice Cooper, David Bowie, Hazel O'Conner, Gwen Staffani, Marilyn Manson, Boy George etc) and repackaged.

Adele's album is released in America tomorrow. It's already number 6 on US itunes just on pre-orders. Plus her last album(19) is at number 9. Her single Rolling in the deep looks set to make a huge leap on Billboard hot100 as its now up to number 8 on itunes.
Amazing how her last album is also getting a whole new lease of life.
Good luck, Adele!

How is 135,000 copies over the past week a low amount of sales? Don't be ridiculous.
Every artist builds hype not just Gaga. The BTW hype may have been a bit more substantial but its a marketing tactic used by nearly all artists.
Having a song out in the wild for an extended period of time doesn't always guarantee success. And I think that BTW might actually climb back up the charts after the video is released.
And no-one can really judge a song based on the music because tbf we all have different tastes. :/ But either way the song is actually really good and I think the majority of Gaga fans are extremely pleased with the song - I for one am.

Congratulations to Adele.
Adele is celebrating an astonishing chart double, holding the top spot in both the singles and album charts - the first act since The Beatles to do so.
The singer-songwriter's latest tune, Someone Like You, which she sang live at the Brits, moved up from 47 to take the top singles position.
She also held on to the number one slot for a fourth week with her second album 21.
Her debut album 19 moved up two places from six to four while her other single, Rolling In The Deep, climbed from five to four.
Adele is the first living artist to achieve the feat of two top five hits in both charts at the same time since The Beatles.
In January 1964 the group's singles, I Want To Hold Your Hand and She Loves You, were numbers two and five and their albums With The Beatles and Please, Please Me were numbers one and two.

Everybody knows Madonna went through a phase where she paid homage to Marilyn. It was hardly a secret! Or subtle.
And you're comparing apples and oranges because Marilyn was essentially a film star so musically there was no copying. Which is the essential difference.
Madonna has been through thousands of image changes and has paid homage to many famous screen goddesses of the past. Laughable how youre all acting like its some kind of revelation! Piss easy to dig up a few of her thousands of pictures and compare them as if they were some subtle attempt to steal other artists work.
Please learn the difference between a deliberate homage photoshoot and stealing somebodies music without crediting them.
Madonna idolised Marilyn and those photos are a very direct and obvious tribute to a screen legend no longer around. Nobody ever pretended otherwise. Musically and personality wise they are total opposites. Those few photo sessions are certainly not any great part of her success.
And Cub was right to say that Madonna never ripped off Marilyn musically. So I really don't get why you're being hi-fived for finding a few easy to find photo's of Madonna recreating a few of Marilyns iconic looks!
Madonna has always been totally upfront about her heroines and influences. Just as she's always been supportive of female artists who have been inspired by her(remember the Britney/Kylie t-shirts?). Madonna is probably the last person to give a sh!t about Gaga copying her.

Adele's 'Someone Like You' has become the first song to sell more than a million copies in the UK this decade, the Official Charts Company has revealed.
The track spent four weeks at number one in February before returning to the top of the chart for another week in March.
The song's popularity surged after the singer-songwriter's performance at the Brit Awards in February this year.
Since 2000, only 16 singles have reached the million sales mark. The last singles to reach this were Lady GaGa's 'Poker Face' and 'I Gotta Feeling' by the Black Eyed Peas, both released in 2009.
Adele's latest album 21 has spent 16 weeks at the top of the Official Albums Chart. It has so far sold 2.6 million copies. Her first album, 19, has also doubled its sales this year, selling 800,000 copies.
Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot said: "With an almost certain Mercury Music Prize nomination and 21's first Christmas season to come, I suspect her record-breaking antics are not over yet."

Adele has had the two best-selling albums of the first half of 2011 in the UK.
The 'Set Fire To The Rain' singer topped the list with her second album 21, which has managed to shift over 2.6 million units in the UK since its release on January 19.
Second place goes to her debut record 19, which is still selling well over three years after its initial release on January 28, 2008. It has sold over 800,000 units in 2011 alone.
The news follows the confirmation that Adele's recent single 'Someone Like You' has become the first song to sell over a million copies this decade, despite only being available in digital format.
Reacting to the feat, Official Charts Company director Martin Talbot predicted that the 24-year-old's "record-breaking antics are not over yet".

Adele's 21 has become the biggest-selling digital album to date in the US.
The 'Set Fire To The Rain' singer's second studio album has managed to surpass one million downloads in the US just a week after Eminem became the first artist to do so with Recovery.
21 has now tallied up over 1.017 million downloads compared to Recovery's 1.005m, while Lady GaGa's The Fame and Mumford & Sons' Sigh No More are expected to pass the million digital sales milestone by the end of 2011.
Just under a third (32%) of the 155.5m albums sold in the US in the first six months of 2011 were digital, marking a 19% rise in downloads compared to the same period in 2010, reports USA Today.
Billboard's associate director of charts and retail Keith Caulfield said that Adele is "not just a digital phenomenon", saying: "She appeals to older consumers, who will still buy full albums, and to younger people who may just buy a single track.
"She connects with people in a way where they feel she is a 'full-package artist' and you want to hear everything she sings."
Adele's 'Someone Like You' became the first digital single to pass the one million UK sales mark this decade earlier this month.
The singer-songwriter's first two albums 19 and 21 are currently the top two best-selling albums in the UK this year.

Adele's 21 is the first album to spend its first 20 weeks inside the top three since Celine Dion's Let's Talk About Love, which spent its first 22 weeks inside the top three from December 1997 to May 1998. Both albums have strong adult contemporary appeal. Both housed smash #1 singles. Dion's album featured "My Heart Will Go On (Love Theme From ‘Titanic')," which won Grammys for Record and Song of the Year. Adele's album features "Rolling In The Deep," which is the front-runner to win both awards this year.
21's amazing billboard chart run;
{1}-1-2-1-3-3-1-2-1-1-1-1-1-3-2-1-3-3-2- (first entry: 12/3/11) 19 weeks

Adele's 21 has become the longest-running number one album in 40 years.
The singer's second studio LP has matched a record set by the Bee Gees' Saturday Night Fever in 1977, which also spent 18 weeks at the top of the UK chart.
In total, there are only eight albums that have surpassed Adele's run as number one in UK chart history.
Simon & Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water managed to tally up 41 weeks at the top back in 1971, while other notable chart-dominators include The Beatles' 1967 album Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and 1965's The Sound Of Music soundtrack.
21 recently surpassed 3 million sales in the UK, meaning the album has now been certified 10x platinum by the British Phonographic Industry.
The Brit School alum has dominated the world music chart since the record's release back in January and has so far sold over 8 million copies of the album worldwide.

1. 2939800 Adele 21

3. 694600 Bruno Mars Doo-Wops & Hooligans
4. 673000 Rihanna Loud

Adele on the verge of 3mill for 21 and 1 mill for 19(just this year). She really is untouchable this year. Nobody close.

It's interesting that Adele's 21 is by far the biggest selling album in US, UK and France this year. But the sales are disproportionate;
US 3.15 million
UK 2.93 million
France 0.3 million
Its a good barometer of how poor some countries record sales are. Adele is no1 in France with just 16,000 this week. Of course, its all relative but it just shows that the UK is a huge market for sales; similar sales to the US but just 20% of the population size.

Adele has fuelled rumours that she will record music for the next James Bond movie during an appearance on Jonathan Ross's new ITV chat show.
The 'Set Fire To The Rain' singer let slip on the first edition of The Jonathan Ross Show that her next musical project would be a "theme", later becoming embarrassed when the 50-year-old host proceeded to reference the iconic spy series.
"I'm going back in the studio in November, fingers crossed," she stated. "Well, this is actually a theme, what I've got to do. Wow, that's really giving something away."
Blushing as Ross started humming the opening tune to previous James Bond instalments, Adele added: "No. It's a concept. One song."
The London-born singer also claimed to have no "interest" in the celebrity lifestyle, and admitted to feeling homesick at this weekend's MTV Video Music Awards.
"I'm not very in touch with the fame side," she said. "I don't chase none of that and, to be honest, it doesn't interest me at all.
"I was at the VMAs the other day and it was a good night out but I felt pretty out of place and wished I was at home with my girlfriends."
Bond 23 will open in cinemas on October 26, 2012.
Watch the full interview with Adele on The Jonathan Ross Show at 9.45pm tonight on ITV1.

When floor manager it was time to go; she knocked wind out of him and she was gonna sing Someone Like You for audience. I cheered and Adele waved bless her. After she sang Turning Tables, this floor manager wanted to clear up (looked like he was in a rush) til Adele just said "I'm gonna sing Someone Like You, I promised audience. Adele has been forced to postpone the first two dates of her upcoming UK tour due to illness.
The 'Set Fire to the Rain' star, who is rumoured to be recording the next James Bond theme song, will no longer appear in Plymouth on Sunday and Bournemouth on Monday due to poor health.
A message on the singer's website read: "It is with regret that due to a severe cold and chest infection, Adele has had to postpone the first two shows of her UK tour in Plymouth on Sunday September 4 and Bournemouth on Monday September 5 2011.
"The shows will be rescheduled at the earliest opportunity and all original tickets will remain valid. Refunds will be available from the point of purchase.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and look forward to seeing you all at the rescheduled shows."
Adele cancelled the remaining dates of her US tour in June after contracting laryngitis. She was banned from singing and talking by doctors and later announced new American dates across August and October.
She recently unveiled plans to project photos of her friends and fans on stage during her tour and asked people to send in photographs of themselves.

I know all about the sales/airplay rules and have checked my facts. She is ahead on sales and seems to be getting the radio play needed too. The predictions are that she will be numero uno ahead of Maroon5.
This is the prediction based on Sales/airplay (Billboard hot 100)
1. Someone Like You (273 + 46 = 319)
2. Moves Like Jagger (200 + 90 = 290)
