Okay - the real Eurovision takes place on the 14th of May and it's been tradition to this a week before. Therefore the real show shall happen on the 7th.

I am now opening applications. However, before you go off claiming countries, there are a few changes to make note of.

Firstly, I'm opening this up to the whole of the world. This is mostly because I'm sure all opportunities for Eastern European jokes will have been lapped up by now and I just want to make it possible so that everyone can find an idea.

All you have to do to apply for now is reply to this thread with the name of the country you wish to take. There's roughly 200 so I doubt there'll be a fight for places.

However, if you are going to claim a country, I'd rather it was because you have a serious intention of actually writing a song for the contest. The song doesn't have to be a piece of audio mp3 or whatever; of course if you wish to do that, you may; but just the lyrics and a stage design or costumes or something shall suffice. Just get creative and either try to be funny or, dare I say it, make a good song. There aren't really any topics that are taboo in this - previous winners have included a slut from Milton Keynes and an incestuous family from Austria - other entrants have sung about racism, religion and goats in clogs.

So yeah. Reply, and send me your entry before May 6th. :)

rofl well the reasons I'm undecided are that I've tried singing my words along to the beat (I've rewritten a popular song) and it's pretty much impossible to sing it all in one go; I'm using an old laptop with very little space on it so sound editing isn't really much of an option but I may make a video and just post the lyrics along with it or something; depends if I can convince my flatmates to join in with the silly-ness or not. :hugesmile:

first entry shall be posted at 8! I'll require Matt, Beastie, Niamh and Iceman to submit their judging scores tonight - preferably before 11pm :) Shall then announce the results at 11. The winner shall receive a little microphone award (as seen under mine and PJ's profiles)

I think it's a better idea like this, It's more likely to be a fair vote than public voting, public voting would end up being a popularity contest rather than the best song imo

The real Eurovision hasn't used judges votes for years and years, has it? It's all the public now.

They started using judges again last year I think to combat the block voting.

Last year they went back to using a panel of judges plus the public vote as well because of all the vote for your neighbour crap

And I don't know I just think if people are "official judges" they're more likely to take it seriously and be fair (lol at my own seriousness:joker: )

Though it's to my understanding that block voting isin't based on countries in the east loving each other - they hate each other - more it's based on the fact that the Estonian entrant could be like a big, mainstream popstar in Latvia and that type of shiz.
