Having a drunken convo with Niamh, we were on about if drinking totally changes you.
With me, yeah sometimes I'll say my true feelings. But sometimes I think WTF and when people tell me what I did or said on nights out I think, is that me?

I just laugh at everything, which is really awkward when something bad happens

I don't think I liked being drunk, I hate not being in control.

Im not sure. Its cant be the real you, since different types of alcohol make you act differently :/

I'm actually the complete opposite of myself when I'm drunk, it's kindof weird.

It knocks down barriers but it depends what barriers you have up. Plus it depends how much you have. A little relaxes you.

Ive answered this question before here. Like I said, the defences and barriers you have up are part of the real you. Its what you've chosen to protect about yourself as a form of defence. So taking them down is not necessarily the real you.

I don't drink much. But usually when I do.. I am more confident with people. And will talk to people I don't usually talk to! lol

I prefer just having a laugh and being tipsy. Rather than being a drunk skunk!!

This. I don't think I have been drunk in at least a year or something.

I havn't drank alcohol since last February where I was just tipsy.

But yeah.. it's a control thing too. I like to be in control of my own life. But sometimes it's nice not to be too uptight and loosen up! But lots of things can loosen you up besides "alcohol".

If I want a drink... I will have a drink. Not if people tell me I should have one..

I'm just a more exaggerated version of myself, though I say a lot of things I would never say while sober(though that's probably true for most people).

I think it reveals the real you but then if you drink enough can also change you.

The thing is yourself is also what you withhold within yourself and don't say out loud so if alcohol makes you say things you wouldn't when your sober surely that is changing you?

I say everything I think when I'm drunk.

Surely the 'real' you is you without any stimulants (and all that blah)

I do become more confident after a drink. That said, I always slow down once I get the feeling that I'm out of control as I hate that

Maybe it just reveals a dark side people wish they didn't have

After a fair amount of alcohol I just go sleepy, but I never drink to excess, I like to know what I'm doing and saying.

Drinking alcohol reveals extreme feelings/emotions, which is not exactly the same as real feelings.

I don't think it reveals "the real you" I've often woke up thinking "I was talking some s**t last night" I think it definitely changes the way you think

I don't know. Sometimes it brings out elements of the real me, but then on other occasions it changes me. It depends on what I have been drinking.

CharlieO

It brings out things you wouldn't usually say or do because you suppress it.
So the question is:
Is 'yourself' defined by just the things you do? or the things you choose not to do as well?

I think your choices in soberness make up a part of you so therefore I believe it changes you.

I think it makes you let go of your inhibitions a bit but I don't think it reveals the true you. I couldn't talk from personal experiences though as I've never been drunk.

Everyone can act stupid when drunk, but if drink always makes you unhinged or aggressive (like it does a lot of English people), then the chances are you have other issues than just overconsuming alcohol. So yes, I think it reveals much of the real you.

Drinking a lot makes me talk non stop about absolutely nothing, swear like a trooper, sing annoyingly loud in peoples ears and then when its too much effort to talk any more, I grin insanely for the rest of the night... so no, I don't think that is the real me. I'm actually quite reserved and quiet in company. I iz a laydeee innit?

I get incredibly chatty and blether away to anyone and everyone - especially strangers - something that is the complete opposite to me in real life. (Hard to believe but when I'm sober and in unknown company - I take a back seat and become a people watcher). When I've got the demon drink: I'll talk to the devil.

Then when I've had took much - I need my bed. No faffing about, soon as I hit that stage, I'm outta there and straight home.

When i'm drunk i just talk bullsh!t and try to get a reaction out of people. In my experience drunk people only talk BS, they don't "tell the truth about themselves" or anything like that. They just get loud and say things for attention.

Anyone who takes what a drunk person says seriously is an idiot. Don't over analyze it.
