Starting more4 tonight at 10. Won't be anywhere near as good as the real one. But I'll give the pilot a try :joker:

they are not the same.
They Speak in another fashion , than we do.

The british one would not make sense to many out there.

I know but we understand them so they should bother to learn about our "very British" phrases and mannerisms etc. :bored:

I've already watched the first series, it's very good. The first few episodes are pretty much the same as ours but there's a fair few original ideas in there too. It's pretty much the first and second series of the UK version.

I enjoyed it a lot more then the current series of ours' although William H Macy makes a terrible Frank.

Americans don't force Channel 4 to show it, they did so of their own accord. Don't try to go off an another USA rant because everything you say is wrong, ignorant and ultimately moronic.

Screened in Ireland earlier this year and i was completely hooked on it ,so i am going to watch it all again on More4, it justs gets better with every episode believe me. Loving Emmy Rossum as Fiona ,even if she didn't get naked in most episodes.

Emmy Rossum as Fiona. Frank wakes up in Canada in this one

Ohhhh right, I thought in the first one in the UK version he sent him to France because he hit either Ian or Lip, don't think that happened in the American one

Oh do shut up you imbecile. Why do you ceaselessly go on these pointless rants when they have absoloutely no merit? You have not seen the U.S. version. Who are you to judge? Statistically we have probably nicked more from American television than they have from us. I'm sure people have told you that dozens of times before too but here you are helplessly going off on one yet again.

For the record I think it's fantastic. It's not as good as the first few UK seasons but it's much better than the current crap Paul Abbott is content with putting out over here. The storylines are the same but it's a much warmer, realistic, more drama orientated show with more of a traditional production style than Shameless UK's stripped down, fly on the wall comedy approach. It takes longer to get into but I would heartily reccomend it.

William H. Macy, Jeremy Allen White and Emmy Rossum all put in great performances and are incredibly likeable. And Liam is black.

I can't say whether I liked it or not because the plot was just a remake of the first UK episode. I think William H Macy's a good actor but in my mind I don't like his Frank atm because I keep comparing him to David Threlfall and it sounded pretty forced in the opening titles when he said "We know how to throw a ******IN' party!" as if it's just an excuse for American actors to swear on TV.

I've liked Joan Cusack since Addams Family Values and Justin Chatwin in the Weeds pilot so was pleasantly surprised they were in it as I didn't know that. The US Sheila isn't as hysterical as the UK one (and I love the UK one!) so I'll have to watch to see if this changes but I thought Justin Chatwin was a great Steve! Tbh I really don't like James McAvoy because he pretty much plays the same sort of roles in everything he's in. US Fiona was pretty good.

Just a few transitions I didn't really like were making baby Liam black because I didn't see the point in it and it kinda makes the fact Ian reminds Frank of his mum and having a different biological father redundant. Didn't mind the black Veronica but again didn't really see the point of it when it still had Kash and his kids (both boys?) to represent the ethnicity.

Lastly, I don't think it handled the swapping between drama and comedy too well. While the UK one sways in and out of it quite well and still has a bit of a depressing sombre overtone the US one was either just depressing or had that badly executed scene with Karen under the table. When Lip jumped out the window that CGI made me cringe.

Just a bit.

I wonder if some of the other UK characters will show up like the Maguires and Kelly or if the current cast will leave like how Steve and Fiona left after series 2 and how the Gallaghers have all gradually left

jjj2

Steve leaves at at the end of this series, on the run from the cops, but when push comes to shove Fiona decides not to go with him, also Amy Smart appears at the end of this series as a new character not in the original uk series as a new friend of Fiona who may want more than friendship from her ? ,but we will have to wait till season 2 to find out how that pans out

I wont be surprised if singer songwriter Emmy Rossum gets a chance to show off her singing voice at some stage on Shameless. They are hardly going to have this girl in the show who was once a child star with the New York Opera and performed with Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo and not make use of it for new storylines in the show

Very spoilery.

It just sounds like the plot of the UK seconds series when Steve went on the run and Fiona had a relationship with Craig. Ok, so this time it's a woman but it's essentially the same story atm with just a couple of differences.

Was a good one tonight. I do like it but still don't think it has the same grit as the British one. Like in the UK one there seems to be a big build up of emotion sometime in the episode which doesn't really happen in the USA one, just seems to keep the same flow.

But it's good Emily Rossum doesn't need much of an excuse to get her kit off :amazed:

Hmmm, always thought she was great really, especially after recently watching them.
This one still doesn't catch the emotional stuff as well. But that one who plays Ian is a pretty bad actor

jjj2
31-08-2011, 12:32 AM
I think Emmy portrays Fiona's emotional turmoil in her relationship's with Frank and Steve with great acting skill , for example when she ran into Frank and Karen in the school hall ,the hurt and betrayal that Fiona's character felt that Frank would turn up for Karen's school meeting and not for his own kids ,was written all over her face. it takes a good actor to convey what a character is thinking with just a look or a facial expression, a bad actor will struggle without scripted lines to fall back on

don't know how long they they will be able to hold on to her after season 2 , this show is making her an even bigger star in the US than she already was , which usually leads to big budget movie roles

May get another season out of her like they did with Anne Marie Duff. I'd guess Steve will come back and take her away like in the UK one

Just caught up with the first ep. Wasn't too bad, a fairly easy one in back to the series. Thought the Frank story with Liam was a bit silly but it's nice to see Emily Rossum still doesn't mind getting her tits up. I'm definitely gonna stick with it. The only weak link for me still if Ian, just not feeling him at all.

Going to record it.

First series of our Shameless was amazing, shame it's so **** these days

5 years later.... Finally got around to starting it. I've just finished season 2 and I'm starting to prefer it to the UK version (although Season 1 is 99% the same).

Does anybody on here still watch it?

Yeah I'm still watching. They've just got better and better in quality every series.

Our version for the first 3 series > any series they've done so far, but after that their quality is just superb.

(Although it does help they got their main characters still. If Fiona and Lip and Kev and Veronica had left early like we did, it may be a different story)

I agree with this... I am always surprised when the new season starts and all the characters are still there

Can I just say...this show has the best opening titles/theme song of any show on TV today... I never get tired of hearing it... I feel like I need to add it to my play list tbh

This current season is the best one in quite a while, all of the storylines are pretty good (except Ian's). Francis stealing the show as usual though.
