EastEnders newlywed Tanya Jessop is to be diagnosed with cervical cancer in a forthcoming storyline, show bosses have announced.

The businesswoman and mother-of-three receives the bombshell news from doctors later this year, just as her current infidelity storyline featuring husband Greg and ex-partner Max Branning reaches a climax.

Confirming the plot, EastEnders' executive producer Bryan Kirkwood told the Daily Star Sunday: "EastEnders has worked closely with experts in the field to ensure we accurately portray this sensitive issue.

"Viewers will see how Tanya uses her inner determination to deal with what will be one of the toughest challenges of her life."

News of Tanya's shock diagnosis follows weeks of speculation over the character's future following previous hints that she would receive "a huge, life-changing shock" in the months ahead. Jake Wood, who plays Max, had also confirmed that a "big twist" was in store.

EastEnders viewers have recently seen Tanya (Jo Joyner) cheat on Greg by embarking on a steamy affair with Max, and the Daily Star Sunday also reports that Greg - played by Stefan Booth - will depart Albert Square once the truth about his wife's betrayal is exposed.

A show source told the newspaper: "Stefan's exit will come shortly after he discovers what Tanya has been up to."

Tanya's illness storyline is expected to air across the autumn.

Oh well at least it isn't a pregnancy storyline even if the affair is dull. Jo Joyner is a good actress so she'll pull off the Cervical Cancer bit.

This storyline is probably just to get the audience back on Tanya's side as many dont like the affair storyline.. still it will be good.

Cervical cancer can be caused by a certain infection from having unprotected sex. It's why teen girls now have the HPV vaccination

(Sorry, bore alert)

It's a disgrace though how school's go all out to make sure girl's Vagina's don't get all covered in cancer - yet they don't care about that new sex disease that Boys in particular are at risk of getting, because of Oral Sex.

Was a doc on BBC3 about it in January and how it's being ignored by the government or something.

Make sure the woman's *****s are taken care of, but when it comes to the welfare of our dicks - no one is interested.

Wankers.

EastEnders isn't even that depressing.

:bored:

I'd rather watch fights, deaths, arguments, break ups etc than a fella with a beard milking a cow on Emmerdale, Becky from Corrie shouting the word Flaming a few times before trying to be a Psycho or some Slut on Hollyoaks thinking she's a model.

EastEnders is the most realistic.

No I'm not joking - I am serious.

What part makes you think I'm joking?
It's something the BBC even commented on - how they found a cure for the Oral Sex Disease for blokes, but weren't allowing it to be given out in schools, instead they charge a high price for it later in life.

And this is as big of a problem as cervical cancer? I'd love to believe it's a devestating, widespread thing ...

Only you didn't mention facts or figures. Or even the name of the disease [apart from, lol, 'oral sex disease'].

I was referring mainly to the Jade Goody comment. As if medical experts had pulled a cure out of the hat due to her death. Don't be silly. Didn't really read the rest......

No It's not - thankfully.

I don't know, I'll find out tomorrow and bump the thread.
My nan told me the name of it months ago, infront of a girlfriend - most awkward moment of the year.

It almost sounds like HIV though, the name of the disease.

It's a quote from a movie Kerry. :bored:

But there's no denying Jade dieing boosted the attention of the disease - thus increasing the amount of schools and that that actually go out of their way to give the girls these vaccines.

Yes and got women going for Smear tests (I assume you know what they are)

The vaccination has NOTHING to do with Jade.

Not really. I think the affair and the cancer story have been created in conjunction with each other to get Tanya and Max back together which is boring. No doubt they'll split up again.
