Just found this article online:

Channel 5 has raised the stakes as it takes over control of Big Brother from Channel 4, increasing the prize fund from £100,000 to a whopping £500,000! The move is just one improvement the channel hopes to make to the reality series before it returns to screens in the autumn for its first showing on its new home.

According to the Daily Star whoever is crowned winner of the show will gain access to the half a million pound jackpot, in addition to making a fortune from advertising and magazine deals. With Channel 5 sharing an owner with the Daily Star, Daily Express and OK magazine it seems the winner of Big Brother 12 could well be set up for life.

Channel 5 Programmes Director Jeff Ford said tonight: “We’re hugely excited to have secured the return of Big Brother for Channel 5 which will form a key part of this year’s schedule. The series has previously captivated a decade of television viewers and we aim to bring Channel 5’s energy, optimism and vibrancy to the series.”

Tim Hincks, chief executive officer of Endemol UK, added: “Big Brother has a passionate and loyal fan base in the UK and I’m delighted it has found a new home on Channel 5. Ten years on it’s as potent and cutting edge as ever and it’s still one of the only truly multi-platform entertainment brands.”

It was said a good while ago that the prize was to be around that figure, nice one for the winner that.I had forgot about the prize fund going up so high though, thanks for bringing it up again.

I forget they have a prize. But at second thought I remember the days when it was 70k, 500k is just ridiculous, especially for just being 'favoured' by the public. I'm probably favoured by the public in comparison to some horrible people (who are bound to go in) that's such a quick and easy way to win money... Sitting on your ass and doing nothing for a couple of months.

It's only going to attract even more fame hungry *****s :bored:

Hopefully this will keep the HM's focused i mean £500,000 is alot of money.. but if our lot are saps then they wont deserve the money, they should all be put through Hell in order to win and be a worthy winner.

I don't like this... I don't want people playing the game, and now they'll be way more motivated to. Plus they could use that money to pay employees to operate the LF or whatever.

The money would be of better use elsewhere. The prize fund doesn't need to be any more than 100K.

You can't play the game anyway because otherwise you'll be accused of being fake and being a gameplay and you'll be evicted. Seems you have to start a fake romance and stay in bed all day to be in with a shot of winning these days.

I dont want them to have to go through hell, this 500k would be better in another series. I want them to have a great time for once, like in BB3 before/after the divide (obviously not the same kind because times are very different) and just have a great time, do well in tasks, survive in there, and then they'd deserve it. Seems weird this series is shorter yet the prize is so high :o

Think it's a great prize! Will definitely make the gameplay a little bit better. If it's vote to save aswell then we shouldn't see all of the gameplayers going first and they wont be afraid to be a little bit controversial. Can't wait!

Tbh though C5 KNOW they could spend the money on LF but they're obviously avoiding it.

100K is nothing.
