Lana Del Rey stopped by French television show Taratata and delivered a performance of the popular "Video Games," but that's not all she had in store for the French viewers. Lana also announced that her debut album will be titled Born To Die (being spelled Born 2 Die by some).

That is also the title of her next single, which she has performed live and is planning a video for with director Yoann “Woodkid” Lemoine. Woodkid has worked with Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, but is also known for his more experimental solo work.

The tentative release date for the album is January 23 in the UK, according to Amazon.

The president of Polydor Records has hit out at claims that Lana Del Rey is in any way manufactured.

Since breaking out with 'Video Games' last year, the Lake Placid singer has faced criticism over being somehow 'inauthentic' since it transpired that she has released music under other names in the past.

But now, Ferdy Unger-Hamilton has insisted that he did not sign her up when he first met her, a year prior to her signing a deal with him back in September.

He told Q: "Lana knows what she wants like few artists I've ever met.

"She likes to control every aspect of her career. Often we come across someone who is really good at writing songs or singing them, but Lana is that rare thing – someone who can do it all."

'Video Games' became a viral smash when it emerged online last year, months before its release. She is now set to release her debut album 'Born To Die' on January 30, preceded by the single of the same name on January 23.

I hate how virtually every female musician is lumbered with these criticisms but men aren't :suspect: you can't get more manufactured than Bieber, Usher or Dappy but they seem to get away with it

David Cameron has revealed that he is a big fan of Lana Del Rey and Band Of Horses.

In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, the Prime Minister said the US country rock band and 'Video Games' singer were his favourite new artists.

Cameron, who became Prime Minister in 2010, also revealed his dislike for Bruno Mars and Katy Perry, who he described as "appalling", but admitted that they are "beginning to infect his iPod" as his children are big fans.

The Conservative Party leader has previously expressed his love of Florence And The Machine, The Killers, The xx and, most famously, The Smiths. His well known love of The Smiths was not welcomed by either Morrissey or Johnny Marr, with Marr saying that he would "forbid" the Prime Minister from liking his former band.

Marr tweeted at the time: "David Cameron, stop saying that you like The Smiths, no you don't. I forbid you to like it". Morrissey subsequently backed his former bandmate's stance and has hit out at David Cameron several times since then.

BBC now reports (via New York's Vulture) that Del Rey has purchased the rights to her 2010 debut album, Lizzy Grant aka Lana Del Rey, and says she'll release it "maybe in late summer."

Of the album, Del Rey told BBC, "I had signed to an independent label but they couldn't fund the release of it. People act like it's so shrouded in mystery, the 'forgotten terrible album.' But if you look on YouTube, all 13 tracks are available with millions of views, so it's not like no-one's heard them. We were all proud of it. It's pretty good."

The record appeared on iTunes for two months in 2010, but has yet to see a proper commercial release. You can get a taste of the singer's previous aesthetic at her former band Lizzy Grant and the Phenomena's ReverbNation page, which remains up and running with the tracks "For K Part 2" and "Disco". The page is filed under "Folk/Glam/Experimental."

What happens to a dream fulfilled? More specifically, an American dream fulfilled, rags turning to riches with the snap of a manicured finger, kissing James Dean in Gatsby's swimming pool, getting played on the radio. This is a central question animating Lana Del Rey's Born to Die. Our heroine has all the love, diamonds, and Diet Mountain Dew she could ask for, yet still sings, "I wish I was dead," sounding utterly incapable of joy. To paraphrase Liz Phair, if you get everything you wish for and you're still unhappy, then you know that the problem is you.

Given the waves of hype and backlash over the last six months, it can be easy to forget that we're here, first and foremost, because of a song. "Video Games" struck a nerve not just because it was an introduction to Del Rey's captivating voice but because it seemed to suggest something as-yet-unarticulated about the way we live today. Whatever her intention, as a metaphor about disconnect and detachment from our own desires, "Video Games" felt frank, pointed, and true, and it had a chord progression and melody to match. The ultimate disappointment of Born to Die, then, is how out of touch it feels not just with the world around it, but with the simple business of human emotion.

The singer born Elizabeth "Lizzy" Grant may have made her mark with a grainy homemade video that brought to mind other grainy homemade videos in the indie sphere, but the slick sound and sentiment of "Radio", Born to Die's most straightforward statement of purpose ("Baby love me 'cause I'm playing on the radio/ How do you like me now?"), places it firmly within the realm of big-budget chart pop. Born to Die was produced by Emile Haynie, whose credits include Eminem, Lil Wayne, and Kid Cudi, and the album's impressively lush atmosphere might be the one thing that will unite its detractors and apologists.

The album's recurring themes ooze out of every note: sex, drugs, and glitter hover in the yawning atmosphere around Del Rey's breathy vocals. There are strings and trip-hop beats and bits of 1950s twang, and the melodies, assembled with assistance from hired-gun songwriters like Mike Daly (Plain White Ts, Whiskeytown) and Rick Nowels (Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven Is a Place on Earth") are built to stick. But for an album that aims for fickle radio listeners, many of its pop signifiers feel stale and ill-fitting. On "Million Dollar Man", Del Rey drawls like a highly medicated Fiona Apple, and "Diet Mountain Dew" and "Off to the Races" aim for chatty, sparkling opulence, this singer doesn't have the personality to bring it off.

The album's point of view-- if you could call it that-- feels awkward and out of date. Whether you take a line like "Money is the reason we exist/ Everybody knows that it's a fact/ Kiss kiss" with a 10-carat grain of salt is up to you, but even as a jab at the chihuahua-in-Paris-Hilton's-handbag lifestyle, it feels limp and pointless (unlike, say, Lily Allen's mock-vapid but slyly observant 2008 single "The Fear"). Still, the dollar signs in its eyes aren't an inherent strike against Born to Die: Even in the wake of an international debt crisis and the Occupy movement, it was hard not to fall for Watch the Throne. But that's because Jay and Kanye made escapist fantasy sound so fun. Del Rey's gem-encrusted dreamworld, meanwhile, relies on clichés ("God you're so handsome/ Take me to the Hamptons") rather than specific evocations. It's a fantasy world that makes you long for reality.

And speaking of fantasy: The conversation surrounding Lana Del Rey has underscored some seriously depressing truths about sexism in music. She was subjected to the kind of intense scrutiny-- about her backstory and especially her appearance-- that's generally reserved for women only. But the sexual politics of Born to Die are troubling too: You'd be hard pressed to find any song on which Del Rey reveals an interiority or figures herself as anything more complex than an ice-cream-cone-licking object of male desire (a line in "Blue Jeans", "I will love you till the end of time/ I would wait a million years," sums up about 65% of the album's lyrical content). Even when Del Rey offers something that could be read as a critique ("This is what makes us girls/ We don't stick together 'cause we put our love first"), she asks that we make no effort to change, escape, or transcend the way things are ("Don't cry about it/ Don't cry about it.") In terms of its America-sized grandeur and its fixation with the emptiness of dreams, Born to Die attempts to serve as Del Rey's own beautiful, dark, twisted fantasy, but there's no spark and nothing at stake.

The critic Ellen Willis once wrote of Bette Midler: "Blatant artifice can, in the right circumstances, be poignantly honest, and she expresses the tension between image and inner self that all of us-- but especially women-- experience." But Born to Die never allows tension or complexity into the mix, and its take on female sexuality ends up feeling thoroughly tame. For all of its coos about love and devotion, it's the album equivalent of a faked orgasm-- a collection of torch songs with no fire.

Pitchfork's review, and a 5.5/10 score.

I love that about LDR, she's a sort of enigma that captivates me, I don't relate her music to my real life, I sit here listening to her words and try to work out what her life is like.

I bought the album on Monday and I just love it. So many good songs, first album I've bought in ages and it was well worth every penny. A true masterpiece of an album and it's deserving of all the success it's getting around the world, so refreshing to have someone like Lana in the music industry doing well when nowadays the charts are filled with so much mainstream crap. Faves: Blue Jeans, Video Games, National Anthem, Dark Paradise (although I do find this a tad overrated), Million Dollar Man, Radio and Lolita but they're all brilliant. :worship: Shame Carmen is the next single, I do like it but I personally think there's much better on the album and I don't see it doing well on the charts.

Lana Del Rey has revealed that she is inspired by Britney Spears.

The singer admitted that she wasn't interested in most female artists, but she has always been a fan of the 'Toxic' star.

Del Rey told Rick Astley on Magic 105.4: "I'm not really interested in a ton of female musicians but there is something about Britney that compelled me – the way she sings and just the way she looks."

Meanwhile, the 'Video Games' performer insisted that singing is not the key to her own happiness as she has come to learn there are more important things in life.

She added: "The thing that makes me happy now isn't really singing. Music was once the be-all and end-all, but when you lose everything you have over and over again, it's not so important."

Del Rey's debut album Born To Die is currently on course to top the UK album chart on Sunday.

Even more reason to like her, she admires Britney. :D

Lana Mania rages on! Lana Del Rey engaged in a video chat with RNB Junk while in Milan, Italy, where she offered a bit of a peak into what makes the girl born Lizzy Grant tick. One declaration she made? “I f—-ing love Eminem.” Why? Because he taught her that music can have intellect and be from a real place.

Del Rey looks uncomfortable in front of the camera and comes across as a bit shy, brushing those thick auburn locks out of her eyes in nervous habit fashion. She did the same on ‘SNL,’ so maybe that’s just how she is when the camera is on her.

She does mention that she is more concerned about how her vocals sound in her live performances and that supercedes the “show” and her movements, since she is trying to capture the sound people hear on the album.

LDR reveals that her producers would add “heavier, fat beats” and “soundscaping” to her songs to bring them to life, and that included things like adding sounds of screaming kids at a swimming pool to ‘Off to the Races.’ When she calls her music “very real,” she averts her gaze from the camera and chuckles, as if she doesn’t believe what she is saying. She follows that statement up, saying, “The lyrics are autobiographical and it’s personal.” We’re not doubting that; we just wish LDR believed it or acted like she does.

She shared that when she first moved to New York City at 18, “I would take the train down to the beach and walked around the boardwalk for hours and wrote songs. I didn’t know anyone yet, I would sing into my phone. I couldn’t believe the ocean was so close to the city. It was beautiful. Those are inspirations for my record — beautiful places.”

In the second clip, she utters her expletive Eminem quote. She said that when she discovered the rapper, “It changed my life. I found out music could be intelligent. He wasn’t just rhyming for rhyme’s sake.” Del Rey also said explained how she can be influenced by both Em and Ol’ Blue Eyes – Frank Sinatra– summing it effectively by saying, “Eminem is the master of lyrics whereas Frank Sinatra is the master of vocals… I f—-ing love Eminem.”
