I think he may have had worries as to his Grandfather, He is not how I expected him to be in the house either though,time wll tell.

As to the funeral of his Grandfather, of course he must be permitted to attend that and say his goobye to his Grandfather, it is an exceptional circumstance and he needs to show his support for his family there too.
No one would be able to keep me away from any of my Grandparents,or any of my family's for that matter, funeral for anything and certainly not for a TV series.
