View Full Version : To all those saying the ratings are good for Channel 5....

...They are not.
My evidence?...."Back to reality" the 2004 show that was panned and seen as an expensive flop for Channel 5 was getting 1.6 million viewers and sometimes more over a night.
Compare this to BB12's 1.4 million.
Im not trying to be negative but its a fact that BB12 my favourite show in the whole entire world is a complete and utter fail ratings wise which is a shame as i never thought BB would drop to this standard.
Im loving this year and it deserves to be hitting the 2 million mark atleast.
We do need live feed aswell (Even Back to reality had live streaming), not to bang on about this either but it really lets us connect with the housemates. Some nights i cant be arsed to stay up and watch because its been out of my mind all day but then i love it when its on. Probably what most other viewers feel like.
BB12 is failing and thats a fact.

It's a shame it's failing because I am loving the series.
Desmond will just bring in the live feed once ratings drop even more! :elephant:

Explain....
Most people only had 5 channels back then.. wouldn't say it was a flop just yet, on the point of it though.

Well Channel 5"s standards have dropped since then, and can you name one British show on C5 thats pulling in 1.4 million viewers?

That SAS thing regular brings in 1.5+.

Of course it is, Desmond said before CBB launched that he would be happy with around 2m viewers a night, BB12 is getting a lot less than that.

Expect even more budget cuts next year...
The contestants on Back to Reality were all former Reality TV contestants so they already had fanbases etc.. Craig Philips, Jade Goody, Nick Bateman, Uri Geller, Rik Waller were all on it just them alone would help the ratings massively it was a Celebrity reality TV show really

CSI brings in more and cricket sometimes hits over 2 million.

The officials vs the overnights have been gaining about 400K & contain around 400K 16-34 which earn alot from sponsors. Don't get me wrong though I hate this crap it's turned into.
Of course it's failing.
I don't see it lasting longer than 1 or 2 years.

Advertising deals and more viewers on Channel 5 as a whole is the only thing they care about. They are getting both.

I agree it is a flop, maybe good for C5 but for a show like BB its doing Terrible.. if this was on C4 and happening the Daily star would shove it on the front page calling it 'Ratings Disaster BB's SHOCKING new twist to pull in loosing viewers' but because the Star is owned by the guy who owns C5 and the Star we havent seen any Headlines like that ;)
ok now im worried.

At the moment it's not THAT bad. What did you expect? Same ratings as they were on C4? That would be a miracle. For a 10 years old show and on C5 ratings are good - they are not great, but they still are not awful either.
Look from the bright side - contract has been signed for 2 years so another BB is pretty much guaranteed. They would not cancel it because huge money has already been payed for it.

I don't go by ratings, never could understand the obsession with them! I go by what I see and what I see at the moment is Channel 5's seeming deathwish for a programme that cost them millions!

I think it's id going a great job. I remember that people would barely watch Channel 5 cause it was dull and pretty boring.
However, now that Desmond is in charge, I think the Channel has become much more watchable and entertaining. I just hope BB12 can pick up more viewers and more viewers very soon. Live feed seems to be the answer.

Sadly I think this will be the only series on CH5 and after this is will be axed. They were expecting to at least get what CH4 got in their final series but the ratings have been appalling and I put it totally down to no live stream.

You can't compare ratings from years ago to now since there's things like Sky Plus and catch up services to account for which have hit ratings across the board. The standards for ratings just aren't the same now. BB is still one of C5's highest rated shows currently and as long as it stays above a million it's fine. Don't worry about ratings unless you know how to read them and what they mean.

2004. Hello. Ratings were different.
Like in the US, in the early 2000s Survivor would get like 14 million viewers, not it gets about half of that but at this point thats still considered to be fantastic ratings.

Continue that aggression and I'll give you a reason to be angry. Calm down.
Last Saturday BB was the only C5 program to stay above a million, as long as it continues the trend of being the most watched C5 show then it'll be fine. Plus it's not always about the numbers, it's WHO's watching that matters. BB attracts young viewers which is always valued highly by advertisers.

Can't really say it'll be okay because it's C5's most watched show atm, some nights it's only managing to get a few hundred thousand above other C5 shows, which they're paying far less than 200 million for.

Desmond took it downmarket with the current crop of 18-30 Wine Me, Dine Me 69 me ******* that pass for HMs. If it is dire then they won't pull it for the next 2 yrs just show it at 4am on Wednesdays!

Loved BTR, especially the afternoon and overnight LF, mostly, IIRC, featuring James preparing dinner and James getting drunk ..... ;)

This. Its costs far less to buy a play season of CSI and get slightly lower ratings than this which requires a small army of people and 24 hour filming. If it doesn't perform millions more than a normal show then its a pretty poor showing.
I preferred Channel 5 back when it was Five and Fiver, it feels like its gone more back to the way it was in 1998 which feels less professional.

i watched the launch night of both cbb and bb but have not watched since. it has become a farce with all the young hm's - no live feed - and this fiasco of fb credits? come on, this is not bb anymore but a ( make as much money as we can ) for greedy desmond.

Consider though that Channel 5 isn't broadcast in Ireland and Wales unless the viewer has Sky. I reckon it'd be more around the 1.8 - 2m mark if it did. :)

Let's get BB trending again. I'm not against the odd tweet or status update and I do spread the word round the office every day as it is. That gets people talking and listening
