View Full Version : Brian "4 or 5 Million"

When Tashie said about keeping it between 'us' as in herself as the public then went on to say even though thats millions, Brian said 4 or 5 million :suspect:
Surely he knows about the ratings?
He's just trying to make it look good if he said 1 Million then people at home that don't check the ratings will be thinking what the ****

I'd like to know do these ratings and the way they are collated take into account how many people are watching in the same house/flat,I mean I watch BB with at least 7 others and eviction nights and finals around 20.
When the person registers that they are watching the TV for BARB ata particular programme or times do they also have to advise actually how many people are watching at the same time.
Say, it's estimated that from the 5000+ homes involved in the collection of this data, that 1,000,000 homes are tuned in to a programme, what if say 2 to 3 people were also watching at the same time, if they don't advise that then really 3 million are watching not 1,000,000.
Surely these ratings collations can only be a guide and seemingly not a very good one, 5000+ homes for the vast millions who watch TV in the UK now.
Brian did grin though after he said it,I noticed that.

Other family members and guests are added to the viewing figure and the method is tested again and again and proven to be pretty damn accurate their faq answers a lot of stuff.

Yes and do they take into account those who watch through Sky+ or Catch-up or On-line ?
Jake.

They take that into account in the officials (released after two weeks of the original airing)

Me neither and only around 5000+ across the whole UK makes me distrust them more.
I have looked at their info and I cannot find anywhere that it says if more than one person is watching at a prticular time, that then has to be advised, it just says if someone is in the room watching TV they have to activate the box. Not state if they are alone or if another 2 to even much higher numbers are watching the programme too.

Because the majority of BB viewers believe anything thats handed to them. Ergo why live feed is apparently no longer important.

Thanks bobknot, I found the barb section and it does appear to take that into account. Thanks for the info.
Still don't trust them completely though, they are dependent on it being remembered to always press the button concerned though.

I just dont understand how they can be accurate, with only 5000 or whatever actually being used.
The people who have them might totally love eastenders for example, and watch every time its on, where the rest of the country may hate it and never watch. But because a small section of people with barb boxes like it, it appears to have massively high ratings

That's my take on it too.
That's not what it is though, is it. 5000 boxes aren't given to people who love Eastenders. The distribution of the boxes is and needs to be carefully proportioned to take into account all types of television consumers. 5000 is a fairly large number of people and a completely fair representative, if you ask me. Picture what five thousand people at a concert look like. That's virtually every type of personality and stereotype you can imagine.
If it was rating great none of us would be making this argument. What if back in 2002 boxes were given to people who loved Big Brother? It doesn't work like that. It's a fair share and I trust the experts. If the BARB system was some trivial bit of nonsense then newspapers, television experts and advertising executives would take no stock in them or come up with a better system. But they don't.

I had a phone call asking me to take part in a survey regarding what programmes I watch.
Normally I don't entertain these type of phone calls but I was interested in this survey.
No sooner into the survey and when he asked which wage bracket I came in at he said that they already had enough surveys from my wage bracket.

it is never going to be 100% accurate but they are given to a wide cross section of people and you have to remember it could just as easily be wrong the other way if they say 2 million were watching and it was really only 1.9

I was gonna say 'It technically is though, considering they only count up barb boxes and none of us are even included in the ratings'.
But then I remembered this isn't CBB8 - and we aren't getting 3 Million...

That baffled me, what does how much I earn have to do with what I choose to watch on TV ?

advertisers would rather target high earners with plenty of disposable income instead of low earners or inbreds on benefits who won't buy something thats advertised because they have no money
the TV industry is just adverts but with programmes inbetween the adverts to make sure the right people are watching the adverts. its not programmes with adverts inbetween.

The show was steadily losing viewers last week - shows he never appeared on.
It's at least two weeks since he said "justsaying" and in that last show he only said it once.

The most ridiculous part of that post is saying Brian is better with the crowd. He has no connection with them at all. I've lost count the amount a times he's tried cracking a joke then turned to the crowd and got no response.

I'm not deluding myself. I've seen tweets from people who were in the crowd saying how much they enjoyed seeing him. He's also often interracting with the crowd in other ways as well as joking with them. There was even a banner with his name on it in the crowd last night!

Crap presenter my arse - hes about the best thing this show has to offer now.
If Davina was so bloody good -ratings wouldnt have dwindled to an all time low at channel 4 that they had to cancel it - just like her rubbish chat show.

A presenter is hardly ever the problem. MPD isn't doing well because the format has lost its novelty and BB is doing badly because its rubbish. But Brian is terrible and has to be one of the worst presenters on TV. If they wanted a presenter that last presented a big show in 2002 then they could have still picked someone who is a lot better than him like Sarah Cawood, Zoe Ball, Katy Hill or someone like that. Brian takes scraping the barrell to a whole new level

He's basing much of what he does on Davina McCall anyway, so it's hard for anyone to say he is far better than her. The interviews (now they don't seem to be rushed) seem ok but I still don't like him addressing the audience and the house.

Presenters get shows based on skills and Davina has a massive amount under her belt. Brian has SMTV Live and The Mint. Its no contest :joker:. Whether or not you like her shes still one of the most skilled live TV presenters going and when someone inexperienced does it (e.g. Brian) thats when you can appreciate how good experienced ones actually are

That said Davina was much better than Brian is when she did BB2-6. She started going downhill from around the Makosi interview IMO.
