Rebeckah makes a classic error in trying to criticise evolutionary theory in saying evolution can not be true because there are still monkeys and the monkeys are not turning into people.

The answer is, that modern monkeys and chimpanzees that we see, according to evolutionary theory went down their own evolutionary path.

What evolution teaches is that monkeys and humans have a common ancestor.

There are other criticisms of evolutionary theory, but Rebeckah's question is not.

BTW it was 6 days of creation not 7. God rested on the seventh according to the Genesis account

At least it brought up a topic that most in the house probably couldn't even contemplate.

Don't diss Christians. Christians ftw! But now I see evolution in a different light. Meh, maybe God made up that way.

Actually its "Fossils are the result of the global flood of Noah" (Although it was God that caused the flood, not Noah)

If an animal dies now, it's body is destroyed by all sorts of carrion eaters et al. For the animals to be preserved in fossils, something cataclysmic must have happened, whether you are creationist or evolutionist. Hence the idea it must have been the result of the global flood.

There has NEVER been a "global" flood, There have been Ice ages and cataclysmic Meteor impacts resulting in the sun being blocked for a VERY long period, But a global flood never happened!

Oh, well no I watch no standup comedians, the only one I have ever found funny is Russell Brand :p

I have just seen that argument pop up on a few evolution V creation threads on various sites

Whether you believe in creationism or evolution, take a dead animal and drop in in say a swamp and very soon scavengers will clear it away. Something must have happened in order for the fossilised animals to be preserved.

There is one theory put out as to how we have so many stories from so many cultures of a global flood (Cf Babylonian Flood Tablets). It goes that the Black Sea was just a small lake, but it was below sea level, with waters held back by some series of rocks, where the Bosporus is today, holding back the rest of the seas. This rock broke and allowed the waters to flow into the basin area around the early black sea
