View Full Version : Alex Does Alex Justify being the Odds on favourite to win?
What do you think? at the minute she is 8/11 to win but what has she actually done to justify that price?

Yes. No offence to the Aaron fans but his r/ship with Faye is rather dull, and despite all the drama between everyone, without Alex the show would lack serious fun and light-heartedness, so would become just very miserable and depressing.
Also she is a team player, tries her hardest to pass tasks even if it humiliates her (like the 'Yes' task), doesn't sabotage them which must be frustrating for BB and viewers (like the Save and Rescue task, I would have liked to see 2/3 housemtaes survive the night in the room) and brings the whole house back together.

She the only one who made me actually cry with laughing in the tan task ,so for that alone she should win ,she doesnt backstab, bitch or follow like a sheep I really like her

I loved her spray-tan segment, and think she is wonderful, nice and genuine.
But she hasn't done much, rather her than Anton, Jay or Aden though.

Yes, she's a breath of fresh air, and very sweet. There are a few I would be happy to see win, Alex is definitely up there with the best of them.
Alex, Aaron, Harry or Faye please :D

I think so, I've enjoyed watching her throughout the show, she likes to have fun and seems like a lovely genuine girl. I'd be satisfied with her or aaron winning.
I don't think she has at all and the price is being very kind to her.. a lot of people only seem to remember the spray tan thing and don't note any other things she has done in the house.. she sits on the fence way to much and lets tom do all her arguing for her ( like yesterday with Harry ) she just sat there looking gormless whilst tom and Harry argued over him throwing water at her.. the only time she ever gets shown on the highlight shows is when she is with Tom so it makes you wonder what she actually does without him there? I don't like Anton, Jay or Aden but at least the whole Wolfpack thing v Aaron/Faye/Harry has been great TV and hasn't got boring one bit

See for me the arguing has got boring. It's not fun anymore in that house most of the time, just petty bickering and sabotaging what could be some amazing tasks that give them something to do.
For that reason Alex is by far the worthiest one in there, she's enjoying the once in a lifetime experience and not fixated on having a fauxmance or causing drama.

Her behaviour in the house isn't the only reason why she's such a favourite to win.
The majority of Aaron fans hate Jay and vice-versa, which means they aren't going to receive a considerable amount of "second option" votes.
Besides being lovely and genuine, she hasn't offended many people and will most certainly receive many "second option" votes. The key to win Big Brother isn't having the biggest fanbase, because if your fanbase represents less than 50% of public preference, you're going to need votes from all the other fanbases. If you're controversial and marmite like Jay and Aaron who are her biggest threats you're probably not gonna get as many votes as someone who hasn't offended the public that much. Big Brother isn't only about popularity but also about rejection.
And it's very probable she will never face the public vote before the final.

This is what i really don't get at all? Arguments & Drama = Good Viewing & Ratings.. i don't know why people would want to watch a house with people who just want to be nice to each other all day and in some way play up on it more then others.. for me the sabotaging and Wolfpac v Purple Koalas has stood out a lot lot more then anything Alex has done in there so far i don't watch Big Brother to see people sitting on the fence for 9 weeks

Some arguments and drama is entertaining, too many becomes boring and sucks the fun out of BB, and BB is meant to be about fun in my mind.

Exactly, some of the arguments are entertaining. I usually support controversial housemates such as Marcus and Charley, but so far I have been much more entertained by Alex's sense of humour than unnecessary drama.

Of course she has 'justified' it. By the rules of the game she 'justifies' it.
People like her enough, based on shown behaviour, to vote her to win and thats the only victory condition of winning BB.
The rest is just froth. We might like to watch the others in their dramas, especially the viles, but they arn't doing anything to 'justify' their place or be more 'deserving' when the ONLY requirement of being in front is voter popularity.
You don't turn up to a marathon race in a giant dinosaur costume juggling balls if you want to lead the pack. You turn up with as little as possible and just do what you do best.
BB is a popularity contest, nothing more, nothing less. She will win it by being popular.

In my opinion her odds to win with the bookies don't necessarily reflect her popularity but more that she is the type of housemate that will win.

the Anton v Aaron thing this year has been the greatest thing about this Big Brother
Look I have watched BB from the very start. I like my bitch/bastard housemates like Makosi, Grace, Science, Victor etc. But I can also appreciate the softer and funnier ones too.
This year Aaron started off strong but really doesn't have much else to offer and I have grown very bored of him in a short space of time. The first few dramas were funny but now they are growing stale and repetitive.

You can twist what I posted any way you like in an effort to fit your agenda, thats fine. Nice how you focused on that tiny bit though, ignoring the wider point being made, but whatever.
But no, it was meant to say she has turned up as herself, with no bells and whistles, and relied on her personality to do the winning.
No artificial showmances, no BB given 'stories', no arguments, and no being nasty to others.
Just Alex being lovely.
It seems the voting public LIKE her, and in a popularity contest thats all thats needed to be 'justified' to be in front.

Then vote for who you DO want to be a contender.
Thats how it works. You get to express this opinion of yours through the vote system.
Right now though you are badly outnumbered in your opinion of her. The majority want her to win.
In a popularity contest, she is the most popular right now, and that's that. Position 'justified'.

No offence to the girl but for me it's a no!
She has made me laugh and I have loved her conversations with Harry & Aaron, but sadly that is it.
I see nothing in her other than she's good for around 10 minutes of the highlights every night and ten minutes isn't no where near enough for me to think she deserves to be at the top half way through the show.
It's fine to play 'hide the banana' or 'find the coloured sock' but that's just not enough.

Stop with that 'your basically saying..' BS as well. It's just your way of twisting what people say into something your want them to be saying. Respond to what people actually say, not what you need them to be saying. Anything else is dishonest and weak and shows you havent got a point that can stand on it's own.

Which says how mediocre this series has been overall. Too many easy tasks, too many easy evictions. I vote Alex, just to stop any of the others in there winning. Most of them are either in a gang or boring or both. And that leaves Alex (funny) and Tom....enough said!!

Shes a nice and genuine person and probably the least offensive of all the housemates, however other than that she hasn't really done alot, to warrant winning!
That said, some other BB winners never did alot and won!it seems thats what the public vote for!
She will win, no question but i dont think she deserves to!

Although Alex seems to be a popular choice as winner, I agree with the
previous poster that Alex really has not done much to warrant the win.
Although I enjoyed the spray-tan task, Alex really hasn't had that much
air-time and not done much to affect the house. She is "under the radar"
most of the time.
Louise, although very beautiful was also "under the radar" for the first few weeks and I agree with others that she was a dull character. But in the last
few days we have seen more from Louise and IMHO has overtaken Alex
towards the winning post.
I don't think either of the will win. I think someone like Aaron should win
since he has done more for the show. But this is my own opinion.
Paddy won Celebrity Big Brother, but really did nothing (just like Alex)
so who knows how the British public will vote.

she's done absolutely nothing to justify winning for me, she's played safe the whole way never offending anyone. I suppose you might like the colour she adds to the house, but for me that's not enough.
Alex is very sweet and she makes me laugh. She has had some classic moments. I like the drama and arguments too but when it comes to the winner I want a genuine, nice person to get the money - not some argumentative, manipulating dickhead. Past BB winners have all been fairly genuine, nice people, so I guess most viewers feel that way.
Jordan.
14-10-2011, 02:19 PM
No not really. I'm fed up of reading stuff like "she's so nice and sweet and genuine she deserves it x" **** off being nice is not a worthy reason to win. All the storylines this series have been made by Aaron, Harry, Jay and Anton (also Rebeckah & Heaven when they were in there). Alex is just an extra thrown into the hl show once in a while for a cheap laugh.

Thankfully this, and other, forums with all their polls and whatnot, do not reflect how the majority of voters feel.
The majority obviously see in her a fun and charming counterbalance to all the darkness in there that they enjoy a lot and therefore she is popular.
Does this 'justify' her? Ofc it does, to those that value such things.
To those that value arguing, aggression, manipulation, fake showmances, and being generally vile, ofc it won't though.
But, again thankfully, the majority of voters seem to want their winners to be good people and that makes her popular, which in a popularity contest is all you need to 'justify' yourself to anyone.

Not really IMO. Seems a nice enough girl, but shes only featured when messing around with Tom or when they give her a task.
I think part of the reason shes odds on though is not to do with her, but to do with how marmite the other faves are. If Aaron goes before Jay a lot of Aaron fans would vote Alex just to stop Jay winning, and vice versa. However I do think she would probably be favourite anyway, just not at the odds she is.
She might start getting featured more once this wolfpack thing dies down. And then I will probably change how I think, but at this moment, she probably has about 20 mins worth of footage since they entered, and 10 mins of that is the yes task.

Aaron is the perfect example of someone I believe is a deserving winner. Someone I really like as a person, who also contributes a lot to the series, who brings entertainment directly and indirectly on a regular basis.

I think you have made your opinion quite clear in numerous posts you don't like Alex...it's not about what YOU don't like, this show is about what the public like...and the public do like Alex...everyone is entitled to their opinion but when it gets shoved down your throat it's like yesterday's news!!! Please give it a rest...You don't see me slating other housemates so have a little compassion at least!!
With all due respect here...if you sign up to a big brother forum, you have to expect that some people will have negative opinions on your daughter, same as people will have negative opinions on any housemate. And I really dont think its your place to tell someone to 'give it a rest' just because they voice their opinions on multiple threads.
The forum would be a really boring place if we all just were happy and positive about the housemates we liked and ignored everything else.

I agree that no one should get special priviledge, but also no one should get special restrictions. It is her 'place' as much as it is anyone else's (who don't get pulled up by mods for it).
With all due respect.

You have to wonder if Alex is still in there, she never does anything in there.
They must give her screen time to Jay.

I don't think any of them deserve it. Most undeserving lot of HMs ever IMO. Not saying the shows rubbish. Just the HMs are pretty undeserving.

Alex is the typical BB winner, lets face it if you get on witb everyone, have a laugh and don't cause offence you are going to win!
Forget its an entertainment show, the public always vote for those that don't annoy them.
Wether or not they have done alot or not doesnt seem to matter, its the mad world of reality tv.
Look at your past Big Brother winners, Brian Dowling for example, when he won he actualyl deserved to!, He was hilarious and was without question a fantastic housemate!. But other than Brian, you have to question if any of the other winners have deserved it!. Their is no way Rachel Rice should have won, theirs no way Ulrika Johnson should have won!,but they did!
Its up to you lot to vote correctly!

True. However its the 'have a little compassion at least' part that makes it a bit different from random users saying give it a rest isnt it ;)

Alex is a decent sort of girl but apart from the tan task she really hasn't contributed and, imo, doesn't deserve to win. But she will more than likely win as the viewers tend to vote for silly HMs. Brian Belo for example.

Alex is playing a blinder of a game, she steers clear of any confrontation, is never nominated and it seems to go over the others heads, other than Tom's.That's why he sticking to Alex like glue.
Jay will not have noticed but Aaron will in one of his pensive moods he'll realize and work his devious way to get her nominated because he's not going to be able to get rid of her threat of winning BB if he doesn't.
The only way he can do this is by getting Jay on his side which will bring Anton into the frame and Harry will back Aaron. So if they all vote Tom and Alex they will be lowering the opposition.

I would say no, I do like her a lot and I would put her in my top 3 but she hasn't done a great deal.
She is funny with her stories and her best moments, other than sometimes in tasks, are with Harry and Aaron.
The problem is we haven't a clue as to her real popularity with the voting public, the bookies near always get the winner wrong, even if they are odds on favourites.
There has been no real test as to her with the viewers yet, so although she is odds on favourite,I would guess she is likely at best in 2nd or 3rd place.
I wouldn't though want to see an Alex and Aaron eviction this week though,I would expect Aaron still to ride through and win that but would rather that scenario of nominations didn't happen.
I don't really expect her to be up for eviction though, we will need to see what happens when it gets to the last 4 or 5 to see how strong her popularity is then.

I've not been a big fan of Alex in the past because I have a very low stupidity threshold. Having said that, I have warmed to Alex. I still think she's staggeringly naive and not particularly well-educated (like many of the others in there), but she does seem to be the real McCoy. I've not heard say anything about anyone that she's not been willing to say to their face. She didn't want to talk about nominations or be swayed from making her own decision, and respect for that. She joins in everything, she's game for anything (I would never have done the spray tan thing...) and she makes the best of things. She mixes with everybody and isn't intimidated by people who are cleverer than she is. I think she's a genuinely sweet kid with a good heart. What you see is definitely what you get with Alex, and although she isn't my favourite to win I wouldn't be at all disappointed if she did walk away with it.

Not really.
But, to be fair. I felt the exact same about Josie BB11, Sophie BB10 and Rachel BB9 and they all won. So quite obviously I don't share the same opinions of the general public

Yeah, she is kind of new to forums in general and didn't realise that asking for a little compassion was a strange thing to do. I don't think she got that compassion, around here, generally isnt people's strong point and that asking for it would single her out.
Ahh well, she isnt posting here anymore so it's water under the bridge I guess.

Definitely.
Shes not had any 'storylines' as to say, such as forming a rocky relationship or interlocking horns with another housemate, but I dont think BB is just about this.
Alex is funny, sweet and most of all genuine. She hasnt got a bad bone in her body and although shes dumb in some areas, shes also quite smart in others. She can put up some good banter and her friendship with Tom and the Alex/Aaron/Harry trio are both very endearing to watch. A great team player as well and doesnt get too caught up in ongoing drama.
A much deserving winner!
The way you said it told me everything.. " You turn up with as little as possible " and it is funny that people think Alex is being herself but accuse other housemates of not being themselves when they get into relationships
Does this seem like the Alex in the house to you?
sVH03RJKO3M
Not a chance.
Hadn't seen that photoshoot/ vid before.....TBH she makes the most of herself in it, doesn't she?? She comes across to me as the same girl in the house....a bit dipsy, but not daft. To me she IS just being herself, and though I preferred Maisy, I can completely understand why Alex is the favourite!!
Vicky.

Bumping this, as I had forgot it existed until it was (quite rudely in the way it came across) pointed out.
