Huffington Post: BB on C5. Does it have a future?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In just a couple of days' time, Channel 5's first run of Big Brother will come to an end. The doors will close, the lights will switch off, and host Brian Dowling will go back to whatever it is he does when not presenting the show.

The last housemate to make it down the stairs might be in for a surprise when they find that, actually, very few people care that they've won. Viewing figures have been rather low, hovering around the 1 million mark. The media have expressed a severe lack of interest in the contestants. In fact, most of the comments this year have been about the lack of live streaming and the dismal ratings.

It needn't be this way. The viewers shouldn't need to speculate about whether or not someone called Jay had an incident with a freezer. Big Brother US is a shining example of how live streaming combined with social media does wonders for their viewing figures. If Channel 5 and Endemol truly want to make a success of Big Brother in the UK, they have plenty of options available to them.

BB is but a memory, Ch5 tried to resurrect it but they failed to try hard enough!

Production are simply being lazy and stubborn, they need a wake-up call of some sort, I though getting axed by Channel 4 would've been the shot in the arm they needed, evidently not.

If it comes back next year i will watch the opening show and if they put in the same stereo types and same age groups again i defo won't be watching. In fact i have more reasons not to watch than watch and ch5 only have only themselves to blame for that.

I can see next summer being the last normal BB but CBB may well continue

The laziness was the worst part. And re-did the macarena on Alex's birthday. ZZZZzzzzzz.

Last year was innovative: Tree of Temptation, Save and Replace etc.
This year there has been NO task up there with last years brilliant tasks such as 'Ignore the Obvious' the brilliant day 2 task meal at a dining table suspended forty metres in the air, the backwards task week 2, penalty shootout against the housemates in the German Big Brother House, the Uber Cougar task etc. Even the prize tasks were funny eg Wheelchair basketball

And most of the innovations this year are awful eg 'Previously' and end less recaps. I remember about 2 weeks ago on a Saturday show most of the show was re-cap, yet there were plenty of good things on the website, Aaron really having a good day. The only new thing i like is the FB voting and the vote to save switch

I must be easy pleased:hugesmile:

I've loved it. I do think they need to make some changes, live stream is the main issue they need to address. A few other tweaks and it would be perfect.
They'll surely learn by their mistakes and hopefully it will continue to grow and just get better but honestly I've really enjoyed it and I think the tasks have been great.

It will be back next year and if live feed is back I expect the ratings to rise quite a bit which could ensure another series for 2013. I don't see it lasting any longer than that.

.

But this year has only been fairly good because a certain HM has created most of the drama and talking points. The production team have sat back and literally let him 'carry' the show. I am not saying bring back Tree of Temptation (even though I do miss the sod) as that would be lazy, but most of the things on the show have been things even I could have come up with. The Yes/ No task was poorly executed eg giving Mark the nudity yes/no question was daft, he streaked in the house 2 days before. I can barely remember Faye's yes/no question (oh, tatoo) or Tom's (haircut). They put all their energies into Heaven's bungee jump and Alex's 'hilarious fake tan task ™'.

Last years BB had a penalty shootout against the housemates in the German Big Brother House - and that wasn't even a shopping task, it was just for some booze and to watch the England v Germany 1-4 thrashing. This showed high production values as did the Glee Task. It's as if they've spent all their cash getting Pamela Anderson (who most people under 20 probably don't know - Aden wasn't sure) and made the rest up by planning it on the back of a fag packet.

they should go back to the original concept, dont do auditions, choose people randomly, and have the 24 hour live feed.

If this series had live feed and hadn't been on straight after CBB I reckon BB could last longer than next year but next year will definitely be the last year of it.
