I always assumed it was a town in the Greater Manchester area

The Street was based on an actual Street - Archie Street - which was in Ordsall, which was in an area of Salford. Salford is now a Metropolitan Borough of Greater Manchester.
Weatherfield doesn't actually exist.

I know Weatherfield doesn't exist lol, but it has it's own fictional crown court, hospital and many other things, I don't think a district of Salford would have those, where as Salford sized town would

Lol that's true, I'm gonna keep on thinking Weatherfield is it's own town, rather than it being Salford. After all then we'd have a SALford based soap and a WALford based soap xD
