i was like hey mum wanna watch a movie lets watch jawbreaker its like mean girls but with murder and she was like no im not watching that so i was like fine im going upstairs im just sit in my room in the dark and she was like okay lets watch it but by then i didnt want to watch it so we watched donkey punch instead

I actually find it really disturbing. You have to be really ****ed up and devoid of any sense of empathy and to use it without caring.

..I think there are two kinds of emotional blackmail..maybe there are more
..I think everyone within family and close friendships will have used a mild form at some time or another..I'm not saying intentionally..they possibly aren't even aware..

..but then there's a more..'sinister' kind...manipulation..and maybe using a persons 'fear'..or 'beliefs'..and that's obviously more extreme...and probably used by someone who has...emotional problems themselves

I haven't really, I've had daft things like I'll tell your Mam unless you let me go too, if I have been heading somewhere I shouldn't or on the rare times I played truant from school,(only half a day, never anymore and only 3 times in all my schooldays), because I wanted to go and get tickets for a concert or something.

However,on the more serious side,I and others had to step in a fair while back to help a friend who broke up with his girlfriend and she was threatening everytime that if he didn't go and talk to her she would do something to herself, he was demented and that to me is the real bad side of emotional blackmail.
It all got sorted and everyone is all friends now though.

..well I'm sure I've used it on my sons..and I'm not ashamed to admit it because....I'm pretty damn certain..they've used it more than me....I see it as a means of 'opening negotiations'

In seriousness though, I have been emotionally blackmailed, in the sinister kind. Finding a flaw in my weaknesses and using them against me to make me feel that only he can look after me, is there for me and that nobody else cares for me and using his sadness/desperation to trap me and keep me. I look back and kick myself for being so weak and feeble, but at the time I was so hooked by his emotional blackmail that I couldn't see any other alternative. Luckily I grew to stand up for myself, although in turn it cost me my openness to be sensitive, I'm very closed now with my true feelings.
